I'm considering mounting one of these in my car. Does the power automatically turn on when something is connected, or do you physically have to hit the button to turn it on every time?

BEST ANSWER: You have to hit the button on this particular model. There are some out there that you don’t have to. Any particular reason you want a battery pack instead of a multi usb outlet car charger?

Does this device have the ability to; while charging and at the same time charge (output) a phone/device without cutting the output charge power while it is being charged...?
A shopper
on Sep 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can charge a device from the power bank while the power bank itself is being charged. However, when the device is plugged into the power bank, in this situation, I’m not sure whether the charge is a result of power pass-through to the phone or directly from the power bank itself...meaning, the power output from the battery bank is faster than the recharge, so it may take longer to get your power bank to a full charge. I would also guess that it may depend on your power bank as well.

No, after some amount of time, the output to the device will stop. I haven’t figured out how to prevent it from happening. However, if you unplug from your device and plug it in again, it will normally continue until it’s charged but that may depend on your device’s battery capacity.

I can confirm that while battery is charging, that it does also charge a device and the LED is also functional.
Two charging ports output 1 & 2A, but no evidence that either port output is diminished while battery is charging.

This unit will be fully charged in about 5 hours. It has two ports so you can charge two devices at once. For mobile devices, it charges them very quickly with very little drain on the charging unit. It drains the unit pretty quickly if you are charging an iPad. Overall, very happy with the charging device. I bought 3.

I would have to say no, that would not be advisable. Unless, you are using a voltage adapter. I think you would be okay in using a USB port to charge the unit. I believe that USB's are much more universally standardized than that of the Worlds electrical grids. Please note that this is an educated estimation rather than cold hard fact.

This power bank requires, as practically all power banks do, a separate USB charger to charge it. The USB charger is not included, so there is nothing included to plug into an AC outlet, in the EU or in the US.

USB refers to the link from the power source to the charging unit. Europe runs a different voltage and can have varying current, most phones and laptops can adapt to the difference, products like hair dryers and shavers need a converter.
Ok but it appears that this Lithium Ion power supply does not include an AC WALL WART.
So it would depend on what you bring along with you to supply the USB power.
So it would depend on what you bring along with you to supply the USB power.
So it would depend on what you bring along with you to supply the USB power? Like a power CONVERTER? Take another look at my question Brian.
Nice response! USB power is USB power, did you go to MIT to learn that? A USB cord is only a cord, it’s a conduit for whatever power supply you hook it up to. My question is about EU 220v electrical outlets being compatible if the power bank is rated 120/240 for input. Someone who understands has replied Brian, but thanks for trying.
Hey, AH David, I don't think this item comes with an AC charger. But you knew that right?
Monoprice Obsidian Plus USB Desktop Charger, 5-Port, 8A Output for iPhone, Android, and Galaxy Devices Product # 13914
You could also look for one of the 6 port USB chargers that Monoprice has on their site, they work really well and only need plug adapter, as they run on both 110v and 240v applications.

The specifications describe a 2 Amp port and a 1 Amp port. The description says "Two dedicated ports to charge two devices at full speed." However, when I test the unit by drawing 2 Amps from the 2 Amp port, when I try to draw over 0.57 Amps from the 1 Amp port, the unit shuts down. So, the combined capacity of my unit is just 2.57 Amps. That would NOT charge two devices (a 2 Amp device like a tablet and a 1 Amp device like a phone) at "full speed". Is the unit over-rated?

four years and still going strong
I bought this for my child to stay charged on long field trips. Works great! Wish both of the outputs would be 2.4A, but for the price, it's still a good bargain.

Monoprice Select Plus USB Power Bank, Black, 10,000mAh
Works great! Small and compact it charges my G7 without any problem including power to spare. There are two USB ports which you can use to charge multiple devices at once. The Monoprice Select Plus USB Power Bank, Black, 10,000mAh has exceeded my expectations purchased during a flash sale. I would recommend to anyone looking for an emergency device charger at a reasonable price.

Great value
With two USB power ports for charging and a 10k mAh rating this unit is an excellent value. Needed something for charging on the go and this compact / solid power bank was the way to go. Very pleased with our purchase and can’t find anything close to comparable for the money.
