With all that said, I can imagine the charger would be immensely faster id the phone was idle.

It can charge itself at the rated 2A - but not using the stock cable which seemed to only charge at 1.5-1.7A. But using a Monoprice Premium 3ft USB to Micro USB cable, it charges at 2A. It might charge at 2A with the provided cable, but I couldn't confirm.
Even though the device claims to have a 1A and 2A port - for some reason they both seem to perform basically the same. I was able to get the 1A port to supply 2A when charging a ZTE 8" tablet - the same as the 2A port.
But when charging my Nexus 5X, I was simply unable to get it to charge any faster than 1.3A. Current draw didn't vary significantly between the 1A and 2A port - if anything, it tended to charge faster on the 1A port! It did seem fairly sensitive to the cable being used. Using a Monoprice Palette 2.0 3ft cable I could not get more than 0.6A. A Monoprice Select 3ft cable would charge at 1.3A.
Finally, there seems to be some odd issues that would cause the phone to stop charging - if charging both a phone and the pack, unplugging the pack will cause the pack to turn off. If two devices are plugged in, sometimes plugging in one or unplugging the other will cause the other to stop charging, too.
Overall I hoped for better - given the price it's hard to complain that much, but at the very least I had hoped it would live up to it's specifications and just work. It does work - most of the time, but when you're relying on it to charge your phone as quickly as possible, it could be better.
As an aside - I used to have the 4000 mAh version until I lost it - it seemed to work OK without any weird quirks, though I never did confirm charging rates on it to see if it would push 1A as claimed.

PROS: Build quality seems decent.
Built-in flashlight is a nice touch.
Can slow down how quickly devices get tapped out this is the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one
Two charging ports
CONS: Close to worthless for actually charging devices away from home. What's the point in a charger than can supposedly charge my phone six times if it would take a week to do so?
