Can I add more ip cameras to the dvr ?
Stan B
on Jan 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Stan. No, because it is a 4 channel dvr you are only able to have 4 cameras. You would need an 8 channel dvr and would then have the option to add cameras. Channels= # of cameras you can connect

The unit has four P0E ports on the back of it so you can add one more. You *may* be able to hook the cameras up to a separate PoE switch, but I haven't tinkered with it to see if it may work.

The 4-Channel NVR only support 4 cameras. If you think you need more cameras then you need to look for 8 or 16 channel NVR. Then you can add the IP cameras when you need it.

Do you need a PoE switch with this or do the cameras connect with the network cables to the NVR box and get PoE?
A shopper
on Feb 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Cameras connect directly to the PoE ports on the back of this unit. However, you can also hook these cameras up directly to a standalone PoE switch.
If you choose to hook the cameras up to a separate switch, I would HIGHLY suggest you configure them through the NVR first, set up passwords and network config parameters, then swap them over to the other switch. You'll also need to turn on DHCP for the cameras before you move them from the NVR, as I don't believe that setting is turned on by default.

How do I get the lights on the camera to turn on? Do I need to plug in a separate power source other then the RJ45 cable?
gw
on Mar 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You need to hook up these cameras to the PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports of the DVR or another PoE-compatible switch. The cameras get their power from the PoE connections. It does take 1-2 minutes for the cameras to initialize after you hook them up to a PoE source. If you're not getting power to them I would check to confirm you have them plugged into a PoE port.

What temperature rating for the NVR? Can I put the NVR outside?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The working temperature would be 14°F~131°F(-10 °C ~ +55 °C). The intended use would be indoors for the NVR. It may have trouble withstanding outdoor conditions. I hope this helps.

how many days of hd recording is 500gb good for?
Nick M
on Feb 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It depends... depending on the number of cameras you have connected, whether the cameras are set up to record continuously or only on motion detection, how many motion detection events you experience, and what quality of video you are recording. I set mine up with three cameras to record motion detection events. I had several weeks worth of recordings with plenty of space available. Running the cameras continuously at a high video quality may only allow for a few days of recording.

- Utility Company - Average Monthly Electric Bill - Payment Preference: Lease, Finance, Cash - Credit Approximation - Name of All on Title
The system was great and easily installed. The 50ft cables were not usable with the sealed weather proof camera connectors. Had to make my own with out the boots and place the sealed connector on before crimping. When the tech installs the Hard drive they need to secure it or ship it separately! HD only had one screw holding it in the unit and flopping around. Easy fix for a IT person but not so for a standard buyer. Note system will not download the player when exporting files? The issues with the cat 5e cables, poor HD installation and no downloading of the player cost you a full star.

4-Channel PoE NVR Kit great value!
We bought this kit and had it installed by an expert. He was impressed with the picture quality of the cameras at the price we paid. We also purchased the outdoor wire and would recommend a UPS backup with a newer router that has a VPN for remote viewing.

Not quite as pictured but still excellent
Based on the images, I was expecting a different NVR, but this in fact comes with a LTS security LTN8704-P4. It's very good and doesn't skimp on spec though. The cameras are LTS cmip7422-28m (same as brovision). The picture quality is pretty great and it's reasonably easy to install. You can use a variety of apps to drive the NVR remotely - ivms-4200 also works.
I've set the NVR up so it can't get out of my firewall and use OpenVPN to log in remotely so I can regulate what's coming into my home network. I wish the NVR could do dual stream recording (or if it's there, somehow to easily access that feature) so that a low resolution stream could be sent to my phone and high resolution for the details. The NVR can either do continuous or motion timelines, but not a combination. You can do an event search in post though. I also haven't got the email feature to work regardless of 3 different SMTP servers and a variety of firewall settings. I think this would be rather annoying though since motion alerts are pretty sensitive to wind if you have a lot of trees that cast shadows throughout the day. I tried some other cameras from costco, and the picture quality of this setup is vastly superior for less money.
PROS: Good quality images
Easy setup
Solid feeling hardware
Software adopts known standards
CONS: Short cables
Some software niggles
No VCA (not expected at this price though)

Excellent 4ch surveillance system for a great price.
Very very happy with this purchase. I was specifically looking for a PoE surveillance system with dome cameras when I came across this setup from Monoprice. I took a gamble and ordered it and am so glad that I did. The only two drawbacks are the small Hard Drive size of 500GB. (This is something you could always upgrade yourself or do what I did and only record motion events) and the 50ft cables. It comes with four sets of 50ft cables. I ordered 2 additional 100ft runs of Cat5e to run the the edge of my home. Its pretty much ready to go out of the box and the amount of features that this system offers will take some time to set up if you like to configure things and want to observe your cameras away from your home or business. If not use it as is for most people this will be exactly what you want. Like I mentioned earlier, to save hard drive space I configured my cameras to only record motion triggers rather than continuous. I was able to set exactly where I wanted the camera to trigger these events. For example my American Flag flying off my porch post will not trigger the motion activation since I have this section marked off. Setting up the network features took some time since the instructions are limited but through my research I was able to determine that these are LTS NVR Security receivers which are rebranded Hikvision. LTS has full instructions and several tutorial videos online and an awesome tech support department that helped me with my final tweaking of setup parameters. The cameras are truly HD and capture in 1080. The video image is very clear and details are easily seen. I believe they are also manufactured by Hikvision, googling the model number located on the bottom they show as Brovision cameras which appears to be another LTS brand. The box, packaging, design and specs all match Hikvision dome cameras found on their website. Viewing everything through the network is done through the ip address and through MVNS7000 this is both a phone app and computer program. Setup is simplified with a 2d code that will tell MVNS7000 your settings so that you can be spared entering them yourself. NVMS7000 is available for Windows/Mac/Iphone/Ipad and Android. LTS offers the ability on their website to create a free DDNS. I have mine setup to connect to my internal home network and also through the DDNS site I set up so the cameras can be viewed from anywhere on my mobile devices. Overall minus the smaller hard drive (its a Western Digital Green Series) and the small 50 foot network cable runs its a fantastic system for the price. Two 100 foot cables was under $20 and a new hard drive may run 50 to 100 in the future. Purchasing the four cameras and the NVR separately would easily put you at double the cost of this package. Hopefully this review helps someone in the decision to purchase this system

Good system with easy setup
This system has exceeded my expectations and the price is very competitive for a dome system. The setup is easy and the cameras are detected by the system within 1-2 minutes of connecting them. The quality of the video is good and detailed. These cameras do not support facial recognition or people counting but it appears that the recorder does. You can use other cameras if you wish. The GUI on the recorder is adequate and the menu setup, though large, works just fine. There is an iOS app which works with this system called NVMS7000. The app is actually very easy to setup and let you view the cameras live and playback recorded video anywhere you have an internet connection. I will note that the instructions are not very good but I have not run into any issues that I could not figure out.
Overall I really like the system at the price. Everything has worked for me as described.
PROS: iOS app
Easy Setup
Video Quality is Good
CONS: Instructions are not well-written
