Will using this adapter disable Wi-Fi and only allow Ethernet?
A shopper
on Jan 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Plugging it in will not disable WiFi on your computer. Having a live connection on both WiFi and Ethernet will often confuse your operating system and not work correctly; if you do have both networks live, only one of them should have a connection to the internet, with the other only being used for local devices. (That's for desktop OSes; server OSes can cope with having multiple routes to the internet.)
You can also just use it as a three port USB hub when you're using WiFi and not plug anything into the Ethernet port. Works great when you need some extra USB ports on the go.

I guess that depends on the computer you are using it with. But on my MacBook Pro, no. I can turn of wifi if I wish, but that does not happen automatically when I plug this in.

No, but setting your network service order allows the computer to prefer the Ethernet connection over any available Wireless connection.

Does this hub have HDMI output?
A shopper
on Jul 29, 2023
BEST ANSWER: It does not have an HDMI port. It is a USB hub with an Ethernet port. If you need HDMI, you should look at some of the other options that Monoprice has. I've used a lot of their gear and I haven't been disappointed.

Will it work if I plug in my Cat6 cable and an external drive? Can I access my external drive over the network or connected wifi?
A shopper
on Dec 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure what type of drive you have. If our drive is a NAS, then the answer would be yes. You should plug this adapter and your drive to a Network Switch or hub, using normal network cables. If you don't have a Network Switch or Hub, you will need a cross network cable to connect our NAS to this adapter. If you are using wifi to make this connection no cable should be needed. I hope this helps.

Yes. One of my uses for this hub is to back up a laptop to a network storage device by Cat 6 cable since it is much quicker than by wireless.

on Dec 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I think you're asking "if i plug in an external hard drive into this hub, and a network cable, will i be able to access the external hard drive from another machine on the network". The answer is definitively yes, but not by default, and not without this hub being connected to a computer that has been configured to share the drive on the network. It's no different then if plugged an external hard drive into a laptops built-in USB port, then shared the drive over the laptop's WiFi or Ethernet. This hub is not a network attached storage controller, and it will not work without host computer. hope that answered your question.

I use my Cat6 cable plugged into this device and an external DVD drive, which I can share over my private home network and access via WiFi on my husband's computer. Now, I'm not saying I can play a DVD on my husband's computer from the drive on my computer...I just did this test for you. So I would say the answer is YES for what you want to do.

Whenever I use this with my Logitech M510 wireless receiver (on a macbook pro 2017) the mouse movement is choppy and exceedingly difficult. If I switch the receiver to a single usbc-usb-a adapter it works fine. I can only surmise that something is up with the adapter. Is there any way to diagnose what speed it is running at?

Will this work with a USB-A to USB-C converter?
Michael D
on Apr 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You shouldn't need one, as this is a USB A to USB C adapter. The USB A male connects to the device (e.g. MacBook) and provides a hub to connect up to 3 USB A devices, as well as an ethernet connection. You could use a separate adapter plugged in to a different USB C port in the host device (MacBook).

Are there any known issues with slow internet while using this adapter? I have ATT Fiber and should be getting speeds between 700-1000, but instead am getting about 200-300 with this adapter. I previously had the same exact setup, same cable, etc., but plugged directly into an iMac. I swapped out the iMac for a MacBook Pro with this adapter, and now the internet is really bad--it's actually faster if I just turn on the wifi on my laptop. Thanks!

Works well
Does what it should - provides Gigabit wired network connection, and some old-school USB ports to a USB-C Mac. I use it as a mini-dock with the networking cable, a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard/mouse, and a USB webcam.

Limited functionality if you need more USBC ports. Tried to return and get what really worked but since it was not faulty I was required to pay for shipping. Wasn't worth it so kept it and ordered the correct one for my 2019 MacBook Pro 16

Does what it should
The device has 3 SS USB-A jacks, one GB Ethernet jack, and one permanently-wired male USB-C plug terminating 6 inches away from the body of the device.
While on a 2019 ASUS Chromebook with a single USB-C jack and no Ethernet port , I did the following:
Verified that the device's Ethernet port connects at 1 GB
Connected mouse and keyboard to device's USB jacks - success
Connected 7 different USB flash drives via the device -all mounted successfully.
So this device works perfectly for my needs.
