Hey, is this wire Shielded? That is, does it have a metal foil around the wires to protect form electromagnetic noise?

BEST ANSWER: No this cable is not shielded. Most speaker cable is not shielded since there is usually no further amplification to the signal along this cable.

No. The wire is not shielded. I have not had an issue with interference, even though one of my systems has the wire running under the house for about 20 feet.

What is printed on the jacket? I'm looking to use 16 or 18 gauge, 2 and 4 conductor wire. This says that it is UL rated - is that UL number on the jacket?

BEST ANSWER: The actual ul # is not on the jacket, it has been tested by "Underwriters Laboratories" to pass safety standards, the actual UL # is unnecessary.

How do you prove it was tested by UL to pass those safety standards? Having the number on the jacket prevents issues like we had around the time that I asked that question, (which must have been months ago, by the way). We install commercially, and we were using a wire that did not have the UL number on the jacket. We had to return to a location to remove all of that wiring and replace it with one that had the correct UL number listed on it. Unfortunately, we ran into a very tough local inspector there. Having the UL number on the jacket, or at least documentation that we can carry with us, would help when we run into those types of inspectors.

Good cable with one gripe
Good copper cable, the AWG spec is correct, and the colors are easily identified. However, this is advertised as having a "soft and flexible jacket." It isn't. In fact, it is so inflexible that when you bend it at a sharp angle, the black plastic it's made of lightens in color like any plastic would when stretched beyond its comfort point. I bought this for a mobile audio application and it will be more difficult to run due to the inflexibility, but I can make it work. I have 4 AWG welding cable that's more flexible than this stuff. It can be bent, but it's not "soft and flexible."
