If the speaker is installed in the wall as instructed, exceeding little of the out-of-phase sound from the back of the speaker will interfere with the sound from the front. So no additional enclosure in the back is needed. The wall serves that purpose.

The 8" woofer will produce lower bass frequencies. In theory, the 6.5" would produce higher mid-range frequencies. If you have a subwoofer, the need for the 8" woofers is diminished as the sub will produce the low frequencies. I have several pairs of the 8" speakers and subwoofers in two different rooms. I bought one pair to try and ended up ordering more. i'm really happy with them.

I think either would work fine. It’s according on how much power you put on them also. The 6.5 don’t handle quite as much as the 8. I installed 4 of the 8” in a room about twice as big as yours and have a 400 watt amp on each and they sound great.

I have had pioneer and Polk before my last house and I installed these carbon speakers in my loft. I'm more of an automotive audiophile so I am never satisfied with home theater no matter how much I spend and for the money these are on point. They sound great for home theater but need more fill if you want to really crank it up and listen to music at concert levels.

You don’t need brackets. The speakers have latches that attach to the Sheetrock that holds them in place. You need to find the wall studs and cut the hole for the speaker about an inch from the stud. If you cut it too close to the stud, you won’t be able to connect the latches to the sheet rock on that side. Hope this helps!

I'm a custom home builder and I'm building my own house, I thought if I used rough in brackets then I could get them perfectly spaced and let my drywallers cut the holes. I'm doing rough in brackets for my ceiling speakers so I thought it would make sense to do the same for wall speakers.
Rough-in brackets are for ceiling speakers, these speakers are not. They are wall speakers, therefore rough-in brackets are not needed. Brackets are included that will lock inside sheetrock.

The speaker come with a template to mark where to cut the hole. Then there are brackets on the speaker itself that hold it in the wall.

Looking to paint these. I've read the instructions which mention a paint mask, but it's unclear where that is and what to do with it. Is the paint mask the fiber film that is fixed to the inside back of the grille? Should that be removed, either before or after applying the paint?

BEST ANSWER: The paint mask is applicable with our other non-magnetic grill models. Since the magnetic grill completely covers the speaker there is no need to paint the speaker. The inside film does need to be removed so the paint does not clog the perforated grill.

I didn't paint mine, as my ceiling is flat white, but based on what I read in the manual (and Dave L's comment), and the fact that the grille is completely removable, I would remove the film, and lay the grilles on a flat surface (like a sheet of disposable plywood or something), and lightly spray them using a furniture grade paint sprayer with a very much thinned paint, using multiple coats to avoid clogging the grille. If you're using spray paint, I'd definitely go *very* lightly in multiple coats, and keep a straight pin handy to unclog the grille if necessary!

The paint mask is usually a piece of cardboard that you put over the speakers, the black part. I have had great luck spraying the grill with an gravity feed air spray gun.

If you hook them up in serial pairs, you end up with 16 ohm impedance. If you connect them in parallels, them 4 ohm.s per pair As I recall these are individually 8 ohm speakers. if your receiver can handle 4 ohms, that is the way to go. The phase is a non issue, they will be close enough for it to not matter.

It's way too confusing to know what to buy when looking at Monoprice speakers. It's also hard to know what they'll look like installed because there are zero installed or room contextual photos of speakers.

I am looking to upgrade my Home Theater to a 7.2.4 set up. I am looking to do this with the Alpha Series speaker line. Which speaker sizes would make the best sense for my room, which is 10ft x 26ft, with 10ft ceiling?
Should I be using the 6.5in speakers, or 8in speakers?

Product Performs
Using these for surrounds in my HT room. Install was trouble-free. They sound and look great. FYI, these speakers are a lot more efficient than the speakers they replaced (Polk monitor 4As.) Would definitely use these in other rooms of my house.

Amazing
Installed these in a home theater setting. I?m really happy I bought them as I invited my audiophile friend over for the first movie and he was blown away at how good they sounded. He has klipsch surround on his theater and this sounds way better. The highs are beyond what you?d expect from a low budget diy theater build. I have made 3 home theaters with mono price and this one I upgraded speaker wise. The difference is beyond noticeable and I?m no audiophile.. I upgraded the center channel beyond these and I?ll leave a review for that gem of a speaker soon.

Reasonably priced good speakers
I have these ( the 8 inchers) in the ceiling as surrounds., They sound really good, and, with their articulationg tweeters they are a good match for that position. Piared them w the monolith fronts and centers. I could have just put these in all positions, and saved some money, have I known how good these were. The only thing, they are not thx certified. I like that they arer 2 way, and have a high quality x-over.

Spectacular speakers
These speakers are spectacular. I have two pairs -- one pair in my living room, and another pair in my bedroom. They are WAY better than the Caliber speakers, which I used for 8 years in both locations. I consider Alpha in-wall speakers to be a bargain.
I have Denon AVR-S930H receivers.

Solid speaker
Could use a little more bass but sounds good. I was able to put together a very respectable 5.1.2 system using these 8" fronts, the dual 5.25" center and 6.5" for the Atmos and surrounds for less than $300 after using a 20% off coupon (using a subwoofer I already had so technically i put together a 5.x.2 system for $300).
