These sound very tinny to me and my AV guy said it’s the quality of the speaker and there is really no base. I find that hard to believe with all the good reviews. Can anyone help me with this issue?

BEST ANSWER: Remember one thing that can effect the sound quality is the quality of the amplifier also. Ive found some amps will give tinnier sound than others if they are of low quality or their midrange frequency is too high and non adjustable. I haven't had any sound issues from these speakers myself

BEST ANSWER: Remember one thing that can effect the sound quality is the quality of the amplifier also. Ive found some amps will give tinnier sound than others if they are of low quality or their midrange frequency is too high and non adjustable. I haven't had any sound issues from these speakers myself

They are tinny sounding and don’t have much bass. You can expect much from how inexpensive these are and the fact that they are weatherproof. I’ve installed half a dozen of these for basic background music speakers and they have been great and withstand the weather quite well.

I have six of these set up in my back yard. I have been very happy with their output. If you are looking for the same sound that you would get at a club, then these are not for you, but if you want a real good sound for the price...you found the right outdoor speaker.

Thanks for replying Niko. I’m not looking for the sound of a club but the base is extremely light so the sound is just “tinney” like the treble is super high and the base is quite low. I was told speakers also need some play time so hopefully in a few weeks it will get better?
I agree, I was very disappointed by the sound of these speakers and the volume level they produced. I replaced them with a set of Polk outdoor speakers and was much happier.

Perhaps they sound this way because large outdoor areas don't have walls to reflect the bass. I adjusted the bass on my receiver to compensate.

I cannot hook 14 AWG speaker wire directly to these. The holes are too big and the wire slips out. Should I order standard banana plugs? The holes seem too small for standard banana plugs. Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: The spring loaded terminals should accommodate 14AWG wire. You may have a defective unit.

What I recommend is to trim the wire down just enough to fit inside the hole, you could also trim it down and solder the tip of the wire (tin the ends) and that will give you a good connection. The banana jacks are great if they were inside speakers, being outside with the hot and cold and elements, you can have connection problems if it isn't a clean tight connection.

I believe MonoPrice already responded, but you should have a button on each speaker terminal. If you push the button in, insert the wire, and let go of the button, it should grab the wire securely. There's no way for a banana plug to fit in these speakers.

Try to unscrew the clip and slid the wire in and screw down on the wire. Not sure if this will work or if you tried this. Good luck

I saw online which way to mount these outdoor, weatherproof speakers horizontally where it showed the tweeter on the left or right side of the woofer to be completely waterproof. I can not find that diagram and the instructions that came with the speakers don't say which way to mount them. Tweeter to the left or right side? Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: I don’t think it matters. I mounted mine so that the tweeter is on the outside to emphasize bass. On the left speaker I put the tweeter on the left side. On the right speaker I put the tweeter on the right side. But I don’t think it matters at all.

Can I daisy chain this speaker to you 6.5 inch in ceiling speakers?

BEST ANSWER: That depends on your amp and on how many total speakers you’re installing. What’s the impedance of your ceiling speakers? The Monoprice speakers are 8 ohms. Add two of those and two 8 ohm ceiling speakers and you’re probably exceeding the load your amp can safely support. Of course it also depends on your amp. Most commercial amps go down to 2 ohms but consumer gear is more likely 4ohms max, in which case you’d be driving the amp too hard if you daisy-chain all the speakers.

In theory, yes. But it depends more on your setup, for an example, amplifier, receiver, or something may be needed to ensure you have the power needed.

Do these speakers come with the small bracket that attaches only to the bottom allowing for more range of motion, or is it the larger bracket that attaches to both top and bottom of speaker?

I would like to use an alternative wall mount (that allows 360 degree movement). One photo shows that type of mount. Also the rear seems to have holes to receive a mount using a threaded bolt. Are the 2 holes on the back of the speaker threaded?

Can't be beaten for the price. I use them for rear surrounds/pool speakers and they do the job well. Bass is not great, but audio is clear.

Build Quality: A+ Sound Quality: B
WARNING TO BUYERS: The sticker on the rear of my 6 units were upside down. This matters because the instructions state that the unit must be correctly oriented vertically (tweeter above woofer) or horizontally with the tweeter to the left if you want water resistance.
If I oriented the speakers based on the direction of the sticker on my units, I'd have done so upside-down and potentially compromised its waterproofness.
REVIEW:
I'll keep this short. These speakers sound pretty decent, but I do believe (and the included manual suggests) they need time to break in to truly open up their sound.
Out of the box, I was only really satisfied with these when I cranked the tone control on my receiver to -6 Treble (max) and +6 Bass (max) as they were so bright at lower volumes.
They seem to roll off at around 120hz - so pair them with a sub if that matters to you. They've since started to ease into a more well rounded sound - and I'm very satisfied given that outdoor audio is kind of a nightmare to begin with.
They're VERY well built. These things are tanks - and very easy to install. The mounting system is sturdy and I couldn't be happier with the build quality.

Not bad
I wish they dug a little deeper into the low frequencies but the sound quality is better than expected for the $$.
Adding a sub with these should make for a great patio system. I'm using them for a split movie and music lounging space and was pleased with the clarity and detail for movies and music.

High performance to cost ratio
The performance to cost ration is very high on these speakers compared to what you would need to spend to do better plus they look great. Will see how they hold up to the elements but very happy with the purchase!

Great sounding speakers for the price
These are really great speakers for the price. I installed 2 pair of these at my old house and just had 2 pair installed at my new house. The installer was really impresses with the sound quality - he was trying to sell me some other speakers that were 3x more.

Excellent outdoor speaker
Absolutely love the speakers. Fantastic sound even before break in and great looks. Just went through Hurricane Ivan with them on a covered screened in pool area with no problem. Highly recommended.
