Will I have lip sync delay issues when extracting audio with this unit? I've had lip sync issues with other brands of HDMI audio extractors and movies were unwatchable because the the voices lagged so far behind the actor's lips.

I've not had any issues with this unit. Usually the audio is ahead of the video due to extra processing for video.

Yes. I used it to take the output from an AV receiver to a television and feed it to a second stereo amplifier to feed pairs of speakers in two different rooms. It ended up being the perfect solution for this particular installation, and was well worth it.

I have a competitor's product that will not pass audio out when connected to a computer monitor for the output (no speakers in the monitor). Will this unit work in this situation?

BEST ANSWER: The audio extractor will extract the audio from the HDMI signal and pass audio if you have an audio device such as an amplifier or speakers connected to the output. You also need to make sure the PC settings for the HDMI audio signal are set correctly. The HDMI signal settings should give options such as 2-channel, 5.1 channels and so forth. If the PC is not putting out the proper signal that has 2-channel L&R audio, the extractor may not pass the audio and the extractor should be set up to pass the proper signal.

DOA
Made the mistake of not testing immediately upon arrival. When I did, I discovered the item was DOA -- will not power up.

Works Great in Multi-Room System
I used this to send audio from my Roku to a second sound source for a multi-room A/V setup. Works great. No latency that I can see or hear. Price was at least half of others I've seen.

First one died within 2 months. The second one started needing to be rebooted or would not work. These were installed in classrooms to pull audio off HDMI inputs.

Does what I wanted
I bought this product to extract high resolution audio from HDMI and send the audio through the optical output to an external digital to analog converter. Now I am getting DVD Audio in its native 96/24 resolution and audio from SACD disks in 88/24. The Blu-Ray player converts the SACD audio to high resolution PCM. Now I can have all my digital audio go through my external DAC as I want to do.

Too many issues
Bought a total of three of these. The interesting thing is that each one had a different issue. One stopped powering on after a few weeks. One caused random screen flickers and finally stop display. One would pass video but not audio. Hopefully I will have better luck with a different product.

Hard to believe both were defective
Ordered to two units in order to strip audio from an HDMI source before going through a 4x2 switch.
Original setup: DTV HDMI source to DVI Monitor (HDMI-DVI adapter) without speakers. DTV Toslink source to a sound bar. Video and sound perfect.
Extractor setup: DTV HDMI source to extractor HDMI input. extractor Toslink output to sound bar input. The sound is fine until you connect the extractor HDMI output to the DVI Monitor input--->Sound stops and no video on Monitor. Tried the same setup using Roku as source, same results.
Both units behave exactly the same. Seems like Im very unlucky or this thing is junk.

Response from Monoprice
Hi Louis, Sorry for your troubles with the HDMI audio extractor. Unfortunately your issue is not caused by the audio extractor, but rather an issue due to EDID system information. Because the Display connected does not support audio, the source device defaults to not outputting any audio via the HDMI port so in turn the extractor is not receiving an audio stream to extract. If the device were to be connected to an HDMI Display, then the audio stream will immediately start to work. One work around for this would be to find a way to force the Source to output audio regardless of Sink device, which may be listed in the device manual. Regards,
