is this flexible? Can it be run around the house from the drywall?
A shopper
on Sep 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It's fairly flexible but not as flexible as regular CAT5E cabling. You're not going to want to run this through tight corners but it should bend fine for running through drywall. I used this inside my house and ran it inside drywall. It's also significantly thicker than regular CAT5E cabling so be aware of that. Not a big deal for inside the wall but if you're using it to make patch cables it can get a little tough to organize.

I ran it to 56 keystone connections all over my office. This was a new construction and i just drilled out holes in the frame to pass it through. It is tough wire but is flexible. The cable guy couldn’t believe i got it at the price i did. Theirs was no where near as nice at twice the price per ft!!

I used this cable to wire my house, though I did so before we had drywall. The cable does bend, but it is substantially thicker than the cables you receive with networked devices, etc.

This is flexible enough. plastic in the middle does provide good support to prevent creasing. I use this in my facility and it's good stuff.

Will these RJ45 plugs (https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=105&cp_id=10513&cs_id=1051305&p_id=7266) work with this Cat6A cable? Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: These will work with this cable. You need a crimper also. I will also add tooless keystones, very easy, these rj45 ends, are a test to my patients. It’s very frustrating to get them lined up in the right holes. What I found to help was cut the wires long, hold them in order, after sliding the little plastic end over, cut the length down.

Standard plugs are difficult to use as the strands are heavier gauge than standard patch cables as well as the jacket being too large to crimp in a standard rj 45 plug. We used them for long runs between punchdown panels or used punchdown ends and ran lighter cable to devices.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Not sure if I used those same plugs or not, but the ones I got worked ok. The cable was a bit snug and having a guide tool was very helpful.

This is listed as both 550Mhz and 650MHz, which is it? The product should be updated to reflect one or the other.

BEST ANSWER: I believe I asked this question originally, I purchased this and installed it in my office. The cable sheath does not state the Mhz rating. However, I have learned that this number is just what the cable was tested to, not its actual max. So it is possible that this cable has been tested to 650Mhz, and stating 550Mhz is still applicable, though horrible from a sales/marketing perspective. I can state that these cables perform well. I have not tested 10g yet on them, as they were installed with 2.5/5/10g planned at a later time. The one thing that is annoying, is that the 23AWG makes it hard to install ends. I purchased RJ45 ends that were supposedly rated for 6a/23AWG, and it is a nightmare to put these in the inserts used on those ends, especially with larger hands/fingers. The only trick I've found that marginally works is to cut the twisted wires at a steep 45-60 degree angle and they can make it through easier.

It is listed as 650mhz on my invoice from December but is now listed as 550 under the same product numbers #18600 currently on the site. So, best answer, I don’t know... I purchased as 650 and that’s how my spools were labeled.

The labels on the spools & the printing on the cable itself list 650MHz, so I am not sure why the description states 550MHz.

BEST ANSWER: I'm currently using with Monoprice 23AWG CAT6A cable (Product ID 30661) and they seem to work fine. I really think that (assuming the keystone is wired correctly) as long as the keystone is locked down into "finished" position correctly, you will not experience any issues.

I have used a lot of these, probably between 70-80. They are great to work with. However, I believe the 23 GA wire might be too thin for them. I would be concerned they would not make good contact. That's my opinion but I think I'm right.

Like it, but would have purchased a different product if done again.
Cable itself seems to be functioning correctly. I probably should give it 4 Stars, but im just frustrated with the thickness of the cable. I didnt realize that i would have this many problems ussung passthrough heafs for termination. Theres just not a lot of support.

Used to wire new construction
I'm an amateur and used this cable to wire a new construction in the framing stage. I used the DIY method of hanging the spool on an old broomstick clamped between a pair of saw horses. I had no problems pulling the cable and had very few kinks during the process.
I purchased two separate colors (blue and gray) and pulled both at the same time to my desired locations giving each room two connections that were easy to identify.
I did not not terminate or test them prior to closing up the drywall. When I did finally test them, all were fine.
I'm getting 400+ Mbps, which matches the plan I purchased from my ISP. I'll probably never know if this cable truly supports 10Gbps; but, I"m satisfied.

Great cable - wish I had gotten shielded
Pulled and installed easy. I ran about 1800 feet of it (nearly 2 spools) The spools are great for those big installs. I regret not getting the shielded for the small price increase but hindsight. I'm sure it won't make a huge difference in the long run but I probably should have just done it. Anyhow great cable, works fine.
