Looks like a female DVI end. Will I need a double male DVI adapter to connect to a monitor?

BEST ANSWER: This adapter connects to a standard DVI cable - just converts it to DisplayPort. It would not be long enough to to connect directly to the back of the monitor.

Most DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapters require USB power. This does not? Anyone confirm 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz Dual Link? Some reviews report that this adapter doesn't support Dual Link output. I think the description says Dual Link because it allows you to connect using a Dual Link cable but the adapter only uses the Single Link signals (like HDMI). In that case, you might as well get an active DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 adapter which supports single link up to 600 MHz (4K 60Hz).

BEST ANSWER: I can confirm that this adapter does not output dual-link 2560x1600. I don't know why they claim it does. It works great for single-link 1920x1200.
As to your other question, I don't know of any fundamental reason that someone couldn't make a DP-to-DL/DVI adapter that ran entirely off bus power. It'd just be a lot harder to do. DisplayPort only provides [email protected] (450mA), which isn't even enough to run a stock Raspberry Pi. A custom ASIC might work, but this isn't exactly a big market. Much easier (and cheaper) to simply have an extra power input.

No, it does not actually support dual-link DVI, despite what the official description says. I tried it on a HP LP3065c monitor. (see my and other reviews)

Each of my two computers support one HDMI output, and one DVI output. My two monitors only support VGA or DVI. Can i use the HDMI active adapter (#12781), and the DVI active adapter (#12784), and use this device as a KVM switch between my two computers and monitors?

will this work on my pc with 4k hdmi output to my 30" apple cinema hd display at 2560 x 1600 resolution?

BEST ANSWER: Not without another adapter. It should support the resolution since the TV will tell the PC that its max resolution is 2560x1600. However you will need an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter in order to use it.
You would be better served looking for an HDMI to DVI adapter instead. e.g. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=2404

BEST ANSWER: This plugs into displayport, not HDMI, so no.
If your pc also has a displayport output, then yes it will work. You will not set the pc to a 4k resolution, but to 2560x1600.

Will this adapter allow 1440p output from a DisplayPort port of a Dell Optiplex 7010 (MT) i7-3770 (Intel HD 4000 graphics)? The system has 2 DisplayPort ports (not sure what version) and 1 VGA.

Just what I needed
Used this to connect an Old monitor to my new GPU. Worked as it should, and a reasonable price too.

Does not work as advertised
I frequently have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the PC to recognize the adapter. Have tried it with multiple video cards. Also displays frequent horizontal green lines for the first few minutes of use. Would not recommend.

Solid at 2560x1440, not so much at 2560x1600
This has worked well for me with my 27" display at 2560x1440 for the last several years.
But when I used it for a while with my 30" display at 2560x1600 it suffered from almost constant snow-like artifacting. It was obviously at the limits of its abilities.
So, depending on what resolution you are trying to drive, it's either perfectly fine, or not good enough.

Does NOT work for dual-link DVI.
Don't be like the rest of us, check the reviews before you buy this product...
Did you think this adapter would let you keep using your old 30" monitor, you know the one that only has a dual-link DVI input? Well, it won't. You can plug it in, but you're not getting a picture. :(
Apparently there are "active" adapters with a separate usb connection for power, and maybe those work, but I ended up buying a new monitor instead.

Not actually an active adapter. Doesn't actually support dual-link DVI signaling even though the connector looks the part.
