Does this adapter provide the analog signal of DVI-I or only the digital signal of DVI-D? I want to connect a laptop with a mini display port to an analog VGA display (chaining with a DVI-I to VGA adapter). I am confused because I read that conversion from display port to analog requires an active adapter and this one is described as a passive adapter.

BEST ANSWER: This is a passive adapter, so I don't think it's doing any A/D conversion. However, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with a DisplayPort port and a VGA monitor and this thing works like a charm. I've also used it with a few conference room VGA projectors and never had a problem.

This adapter should work from a MiniDisplayPort source to a VGA monitor/projector fine, but a VGA source to MiniDisplayPort output will not work.

amazing price and just works

i recently bought a similar cable from amazon and had to return it twice as it stopped working. bought the same cable from monoprice , not only did it work out of the box without any issues it seems to be a higher quality cable overall compared to the one from amazon.

Great value! Works great!

The order was simple, I am so glad it has extremely clear photographs of the item, because the item I was told to purchase was actually the wrong thing. With the photo's I was able to figure out exactly which cord I would work with my machine and it was much less expensive. It came quickly and works great!

A good adapter

It works well with my Surface Pro 4. The only issue I have had is with one monitor where any microsoft office program appears in very low resolution. Other programs are fine.
