The total length is a little over 7", and the length of the cable portion is about 4".

Does this adapter provide the analog signal of DVI-I or only the digital signal of DVI-D? I want to connect a laptop with a mini display port to an analog VGA display (chaining with a DVI-I to VGA adapter). I am confused because I read that conversion from display port to analog requires an active adapter and this one is described as a passive adapter.

BEST ANSWER: This is a passive adapter, so I don't think it's doing any A/D conversion. However, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with a DisplayPort port and a VGA monitor and this thing works like a charm. I've also used it with a few conference room VGA projectors and never had a problem.

This adapter should work from a MiniDisplayPort source to a VGA monitor/projector fine, but a VGA source to MiniDisplayPort output will not work.

Will this work with a 2560 x 1080 monitor?

BEST ANSWER: It should. Display port 1.1 has a max resolution of 3840x2160, and DVI DUAL LINK has a max res of 2560x1600

BEST ANSWER: I am using this cable as a DVI-D single link between my Apple Mini and a Dell E2414H 24" monitor with success. I have been using it and I am very happy with the results.

It just works!
Bought this at a fraction of the price of an Apple adaptor. Worked the first time I plugged it in and has continued to work ever since.

Worked fine for one monitor (pretty old), didn't register with the other (very old). I didn't give the old monitor another try with the cable that did work or any additional effort, since I just needed a way to use my work laptop with one external screen.

Its a piece of crap. The mini side broke off in the computer. I will be returning the remnants but, am currently out of the country.

Decent quality, good price, and fast shipping/delivery. I got the computer running at work. I bookmarked this item for reordering because the video card has four min-display ports and people may want go multiple display.

Works Perfectly
I use this adapter on a Dell Thunderbolt dock so I can use my existing monitor. Works like it should. Also tested and confirmed it works on a Surface Pro tablet.
