can this speaker directly connect to TV?
A shopper
on Feb 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Depends on your TV. This speaker has no built-in amplifier, and has typical speaker connectors on the back. If your TV supports external speakers then you can probably connect this one (or, basically, any other) to it with standard speaker-wire. You will NOT be able to connect it to the "audio-out" (RCA plugs), or to the "audio-return-channel" (ARC) that many TV's feature these days, even with appropriate cable-adapters. These connections send a low-level ("pre-amp") signal that requires an outside amplifier (such as a home-theater stereo receiver).
Even if your TV does have external speaker connectors, don't expect a big improvement in overall sound just by hooking up a speaker such as this one. While this unit is a quality product, the amplifier in your TV is designed to work best with the speakers that came with it, and will likely not have enough power to drive any external unit to its full potential. Also, keep in mind that this is a "center-channel" speaker, and is designed to work best within a multi-channel home-theater system, not as a stand-alone unit.
If you really want to improve the sound quality of your TV at a reasonable price, your best bet into explore one of the many soundbar packages that are currently on the market (Monoprice carries a number of these).
Good luck,
Jeff

As shown in the photo, it only has + and - speaker wire connections on the back. They should be connected to your receiver's or amp's center channel output. For that, and for the price, I can't complain about its sound. If you use a surround setup you really should use a center channel speaker, esp. for dialogue which is usually mixed to the center output.

No. This is a speaker we have been very happy with, but it needs to connect to a receiver. (Unless there is a TV out there that has the + & - cable connections on it that I'm not aware of, but I have never, ever seen that.)

No. This is an unpowered speaker. You would need some sort of amplifier or receiver to connect it to the TV.

I have model #10565 speakers from years back. If I replace my center channel with this one so you think I'd hear a difference??

BEST ANSWER: I'm pretty sure this center speaker is the same one that comes bundled with the 10565 theater set (I own that same set), it's just a stand-alone version that you can buy.

It didn’t work well with my Logitech z5500 surround system. Reason I think is due to the ohms that the amp is on. Make sure u match the ohm rating of ur center speaker to whatever amp u r using it with. But it did sound great til it burnt out my tweeter on the speaker.

can you use this center channel speaker for your front and rear satellites too? I don't see the satellite speakers being sold separately like in the premium home theater system.

I don't have a HDMI-ARC on my tv, so instead of using a sound bar, how would this center speaker with a pair of MP 65RT's for left and right speakers connected to a receiver and powered woofer work as my home theatre?

Does its job
It's a great speaker for the price. As a center channel it's entirely good enough to support the bigger better badder L/R primaries. It riches the sound out substantially, and especially does a good job popping dialog out from the background.

Great price, warm sound, goes anywhere
The speaker, despite appearing more compact than I had pictured it (I didn't pay a lot of mind to the dimensions given), delivered in all ways I felt it should. Surprisingly good sound for the low price.

Not good
I was very disappointed with this purchase. It was inexpensive, but so was the one I replaced it with. The one I had was a silver plastic speaker and the rest of my speakers are black, so I decided to go black. It sounds terrible, tinny, crackly and low volume. I'm going to have to retire it and go back to my silver plastic speaker after just 2 days. (I don't like giving negative reviews, but I felt I had no choice.

center sound
my old system never had a center channel, and sound wasn't clear enough. Now with my Monoprice center speaker, it's all clear, and sounds like it is supposed to. Great price for the value.

Cool small speakers with clear sound
Great match with my 8 inch Sony subwoofer and an old 70 watt Sony surround receiver and a Sony cd player. Sounds great in my chess study. You can play these little speakers pretty loud as they are rated at 100 watts. Thanks, James
