Can these go in AFTER the ceiling has been drywalled? Do they need to sit on top of the drywall. The instructions sort of suck and only show how to attach the speakers.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, they can go in after drywall is up. We only show direction for mounting to the speaker because the speaker then has the instructions for ceiling mounting.

These back enclosures mount directly to the back of the speakers, sealing up the whole back of the speaker except for the mounting wings that hold the speaker in place. It takes no larger size cutout. Cut out the drywall just like you are mounting the speaker only.
The trickiest parts are getting the barely long enough wires to connect to the speakers before you put the back cover on. The other thing is sometimes the cover will not set right down on the speaker right away, it will, it just needs patience. Ge it to set right BEFORE you add the screws

Yes, absolutely. I had the speakers + enclosures installed after my ceiling was finished / drywalled. Make sure you use the provided template when cutting out the holes and the enclosures have little feet that you turn with a screw driver that keep it sitting "on top" of the dry wall on the inside of your ceiling. Hope that makes sense

Yes, they can go in after the ceiling is drywalled. They attach to the back of the speaker and the whole assembly clamps to the drywall with the four mounting screws in the speaker. The hole doesn’t have to be any larger because of the enclosure. Is used them with monoprice speakers as well.

Yes, you can put the speaker + can in the drywall cut. There is a template to cut the hole and the speaker has arms that will grip inside the drywall. The can won't stay in on its own, it needs the speaker attached to hold in place.

Yes, that is how I installed mine (i.e. after drywalling) They fit over the top of the rear of the speaker, but they do not change the overall width so they slide in through the same drywall cutout you made for the speaker.

Yes, this can go in after the ceiling has already been dry walled. The enclosure is meant to be attached to the speaker, and the speaker mounts to the ceiling with tabs that flip out when you screw the mounting screws.

BEST ANSWER: No, these back cans will not work for the Amber series speakers. Look at the metal cans for Alpha and Amber speakers.

Jason, per Monoprice, these enclosures are designed for the 4104 speakers whose overal dimensions are 8.4”x2.8” or “any speakers with the same dimensions”. The 24453 speaker dimensions are much bigger (10.8”x15.6”) so I don’t think they will work.

Is there a back enclosure that would work with these speakers? I prefer the magnetic grill of the black back version vs the PID 4104 version. I also prefer the lower frequency response compared to the Alpha series for this particular location, otherwise I'd just get the Alpha series since there is a back enclosure kit for that model.

Since almost all of our competitors use the better looking -10db, 50Hz, our team decided to use the 50Hz on the graphic. My -10db rating was still in the text. Both the Black Back and Alpha 8" ceiling speakers have the same low frequency range of 50Hz @ -3db and 7-Hz @ -10db. The Alpha series with the backcan will give you the performance you need with the more stylish magnetic grill. No there is not. My were installed in the attic. I had the space to build my own boxes out of wood in order to keep out the blown in insulation. Love, love, love these speakers!

The metal 14365 cans WILL NOT work on the 4104 ceiling speakers. The ring is about an inch too wide in diameter for the clamps to work, the can covers the fingers that clamp down on the ring, and the can can only rest on top of the speaker but does not attach (against code).

BEST ANSWER: No, they look like they are designed for the round speaker only. Unless you are putting these in the ceiling and are worried about the impact of blown insulation, I would not worry about putting these on a wall speaker. I am pleased with the sound coming from the 4101 I have placed as L/R in my wall for mains. I think the backer could adversely impact the amount of air volume with the drivers and even pose a challenge fitting in the wall space. My 4101 sounded a little harsh the first hour or so, but warmed up very well after a couple hours use. Very pleased with the overall sound for in-wall speakers

IT STATES THAT THIS WORKS WITH THE 4104 WHICH HAS A "NORMAL" BEZEL, If I choose the same speaker with the "slim" bezel, the part number changes to 34707, but the picture of the speaker back and the dimensions look like it fits this slim bezel style too, Is this CORRECT? No it fits the monoprice PID 4104 speaker only as far as I know. Look up the 4104 speaker to see the way it fits tightly to make a box for the speaker.

Did not fit. Had to sand down 1 curved side + 4 corners x 2 sides per corner + 1 inner corner on the inside of the enclosure = 10 spots total.

For new construction with no attic access, do i just cutout for the 4104 speaker and then screw this 11942 enclosure to the speaker before putting it in place after wallboard is done? Or does this go in at rough in behind wallboard? Why are there no instructions or cutout specs? Wallboard is going up soon and I dont' want to mess it up. Thanks!

I like them
Some of the other reviews complain that instructions are missing. It's very straightforward. They match the shape of speaker you're putting them on.
I filled a quarter of the enclosure with poly-fil, placed the provided square poly-fil on that, and tightened the screws.
The only con I see is that you should test your speaker connection before installing in the ceiling. I made that mistake once and tested the all speakers while I still had them on the ground.

Product worked well and looks good!
We had to modify the speakers to fit into these enclosures. We put in some Rockville HC85 8" speakers. After cutting away some of the standoffs on the speakers they fit well. Overall happy with the product. It is not at all ported so test your speakers in and out of the enclosures to check how they sound. You could port these enclosures if you had to. We added some L brackets and ended up wall mounting these high up in classrooms. It actually looks pretty good.

Did not do the job at all. Pass on these.
They do not work well at all. I ended up taking them off and building a box for the speakers. The made the speaker sound worse than they did with no enclosure. I would pass on these.

Enclosure works as expected. I put these in 7 rooms. I am very happy with the way they installed and how they "sound". I did not have any issues.

I would not use the speakers without
Just hook the 8" speakers these are designed for up to a music source, then drop them into these enclosures - the bass response change was outstanding!

Fantastic quality
Fantastic quality. The covers finish out the speaker making it the perfect attic mount installation. And the wire connectors are simple, which is nice when working in the attic. I wasnt sure these would be worth the price but after installing them I have to say they are well worth it.
