Can this be used outside?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: I would use outside, but it’s not rated to be buried on its own so you would want to use a conduit.

I would think the insulator would deteriorate over time, but it should work for a number of years.

BEST ANSWER: I would never use wire like this for anything that requires direct power like lamps that requires more power than speakers.
Please read "The PVC jacket is CL2 rated, making" (the SPEAKER wire)" it safe for routing within and through the walls of residential class building"
I do not have dog ears and did not use this wire for my present installation. I used not pure copper wire. It was hid behind furniture . I live in a 1980 mobile home .with wood panel walls.

thanks a lot for elaborate reply. I'm planning to use these wires for the speakers with 6ohm and 100 watts., but instead of running outside thought of running through the drop/fall ceiling. In that case will that be safe or meet the standards?

Great wire for my intended project
I got this 16 gauge flat speaker wire because of 4 long runs to setup Dolby Atmos heighth speakers. I wanted a speaker wire with the small profile so as to insure they would all fit into small concealment casings around the room. I was not going to cut up walls to run speaker wire. It fit very well and I am pleased with the results.

Not very good quality
I am very disappointed with the quality of this flat speaker wire. Bought the 250 ft. spool and after going through about 100 ft found one major flaw with it. I found one of the channel had its wire completely cut off. It looks like this occurred during manufacturing as the outer layer plastic coating looked smeared (melted) off and you can see the exposed copper wires completed severed. This also tells me that the wire was never tested as they would've caught this flaw. It's a good thing I inspected the cable before installing it.

250ft 16AWG Pure Copper Flat Speaker Wire
2/5
PROS: Flat, price was good.
CONS: Wire had numerous cuts in the plastic insulation. The whole outer layer had to be discarded because of the damage to the insulation
