Can this unit be used as a ceiling mount?
A shopper
on Feb 7, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Forgot to mention that these may have limited pivoting if you mount to a ceiling, to where your speaker will be restricted to aiming at a downward angle.. as opposed to the wall mount where you can adjust the speaker direction forward or away from the wall or slightly downward to aim at your head when you are sitting in your couch.

The unit comes with a wall bracket and a speaker mounting bracket. The speaker mounting bracket slides into the wall bracket. The speaker mounting bracket can then be taken out of the wall bracket easily without removing the wall bracket. Both units are secured with a screw at the bottom of the speaker bracket. I don't see any issue with mounting the unit horizontally on the ceiling as long as the wall bracket is properly attached considering the speaker weight and the speaker mounting is secured to the wall bracket with the security screw.

I don't believe they are designed for ceiling mount, but that is not to say it cannot be done. You would likely have to mount screws to a stud or framework and not sheetrock in your ceiling.

This will work with bose speakers ub 20 series?

on Jul 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I do not own those speakers but from what I see on various sites (including the Crutchfield, tutorial video about this) one must predictably use proprietary, Bose brackets designed specifically for those speakers. The Monoprice brackets work well with any speakers that have a standard, pre-drilled hole in the back -- something the Bose speakers seem to be lacking.

My speakers are 22 inches tall with the pivot point mount 1/3 way up. The back face of the speaker is only 3 inches off the wall. So they will tilt forward about 15 degrees. But only back about 5 degrees

Will these mount up to an electrical box in the wall?

BEST ANSWER: This wall mount's back plate (the plate that is attached to wall) is smaller than a one-gang electrical box. You'd need to attach this back plate to an electric box cover plate first then secure cover plate to electrical box. Might work if your intended speaker is small and light.

What is the depth of the mount from the wall to the back of the mounted speaker? What is the depth of the mount from the wall to the back of the mounted speaker?

BEST ANSWER: It will depend on how the speakers are mounted. The bracket includes a variety of mounting options, including keyhole and a threaded connection. Using the keyhole bracket, without modifying the threaded bolt on the mount, I find that my speaker is about 3-3/4" (95 mm) from the wall.
Note that you can cut the bolt to be shorter, but doing so could reduce the range of adjustment of the speaker itself, depending on how wide the speaker is (since a larger speaker will hit the wall before you get to the full deflection available in the ball joint on the mount).

Mine are 2.75” from Wall to back of speaker (Enclave Audio L/R Front Speakers. I cut the bolt down to get that spacing. There is probably another .25” that you can get the speakers closer to the wall, but may make it hard to adjust. Hope this helps.

The speakers will need a 1/4" threaded insert(female) for the mounts to work. I found the speakers online and now where did I read that the speakers have the 1/4" threaded insert. If you have the speakers check in the back, if there is a threaded hole try and screw in 1?4" bolt. If the speaker doesn't have the threaded insert than this mount will not work.

I have Definitive Technology PM1000's and PM 800s I need to mount. Anyone use these mounts with either of these speakers?
Dennis E
on Aug 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I use it with both of those. I'd say it sort of works, but not very well. The problem is that the screw mount on those speakers is fairly low, making them top heavy. So the speakers would tend to rotate upside down with the slightest nudge. After playing with it for a while, I did manage to get it to be reasonably secure. I tightened it as hard as I possibly could and then some. I think I also put in an additional spacer to make it work better, but I forgot now and am out travelling. Anyway, they haven't toppled in 8+ months though I didn't bump into them yet. Also, I think the screw is a little long, so the speakers stick out a little more than I'd like. FYI, I did not try the keyhole mount.

I am trying to mount 14 pound speakers with these, but I can't seem to screw the ball socket tight enough that it does not droop under the weight. I am considering adding sand or glue to help. Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this?

Nice mount for light weight speakers
Nice looking and well-designed mount, but I believe they are over optimistic about the weight capacity. I do not fear them actually failing, but even very snuggly tightened they were unable to support my 6-pound surround speakers at the proper angle. I had to place a small block of wood between the wall and the lower part of the speaker to achieve the desired aiming.

Great little mounts.
Great mount! not really pushing the limit on size or weight my speakers are 11.4 x 8.1 x 9.0 inches (HxWxD) and a little under 12lbs. That said these are solid for my speakers mounted in drywall with the included drywall anchors. I should probably mention they look nice too. They were the best looking option I could come up with for my side surrounds.

Don't overtighten the screws to the wall!
Once I got them mounted and assembled on the wall, they are just fine. However, after putting the first mounting plate on the wall, I had a tough time getting the front plate (that actually holds the speaker mount) to attach to the mounting plate. I'm assuming that tightening the screws down warped the mounting plate so much that the connecting lugs wouldn't go in. I ended up putting the washers for the screws between the mounting plate and the wall which fixed the problem. The instruction sheet is very vague on that point.

Perfect!
Small footprint, quality build, adjustable in all directions, can be lifted out when necessary, everything included. Great value!

Works Great and Great Price
These work great and look good too. Very good for the price in my opinion. Nothing has fallen off of the wall or the ceiling on my surround sound setup and it has been several months.
On a side note, while there are several mounting options provided with these, I wish they had key hole mount options as my center channel was just that. All other speakers were mounted using these just fine though with the provided hardware. I do understand that these may not be the most practical way to mount key hole speakers though and therefore understand why.

Fair value price as functionality is less than description.
My 7.5 lbs. speaker does not stay straight. I had to use monkey ranch to tighten the triangular nut to barely hold the speaker. I wonder what will happen if have 10 or 12 lbs. speaker.

Good enough for me!
Good quality product. I used them to mount the rear speakers that came with the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar. I knocked one start off for the cheap wall anchors supplied in the kit. They didn't grab the sheetrock very well so I ended up needing to use using my own anchors.

Excellent Mounts
I've had my rear surround speakers from monoprice on the wall using these mounts for many years. They were easy to install and have functioned just fine.
