Is this USB to Ethernet compatible with Linux?

It worked on Ubuntu 14.04/16.04 for me. The Asix 88179 driver was built into the kernel on Ubuntu.

Will this work with the Nintendo Switch?

I am gonna say maybe.....lol. I am ordering one of these as well and I have a switch so I will try it out. A few notes of interest though. One Nintendo has not 'activated' USB 3 support yet on the Switch's USB3 port. That is supposed to come in a future firmware update. They also are not supporting Gigabit Ethernet yet, which is also supposed to come in a future firmware update. So while this device may work, it will likely not work at USB3/Gbit speeds. I have tried an older USB2 to 100mbit adapter that I used to use with the Wii and it did work (I think it was a rocketfish). That adapter does provide better speeds and closer to 100bmit performance on Switch where it was barely better than WiFi on the WiiU.

Can we plug a switch/hub and then plug many Ethernet devices on it ?
Christian C
on Mar 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can use the switch/hub with an ethernet device. I'm using the switch/hub with a Microsoft Surface. I needed to have ethernet connection to a broadcast production device. It does exactly what I need. It created a closed network between the two devices. I also tested the switch/hub by connecting to the company's main network and it worked fine. The Surface was like any other connected device on the network. The USB ports gave me access to a wireless keyboard and mouse as well.

Can I download the driver for PID 10933 as my laptop does not have an optical drive to play the enclosed cd?

BEST ANSWER: It has been almost a year since I got this item, but I think I just plugged it in and Windows found the driver for it. I'm using it on a Microsoft Surface 3 tablet running Windows 10 Pro, so I don't have an optical drive either. I don't remember any problem getting it working. If you have a computer with an optical drive, you might be able to copy the driver from the cd to a USB thumb drive and install them that way.

Hi. Have a newer MacBook Pro with only two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports. Need to create 2 ethernet ports, one to plug into home network and second to plug in an encoding/streaming device. I've already bought a hub with ethernet/HDMI/USB hubs. Can I plug this in to that device to give me the second ethernet port and be able to create the specific ports I need?

I dont' think this really works unless I'm just missing something.
When I plug my cable into my other laptop it increases the download speed to 235. but if I use this with my other lap top there's no change....
There was no software with it for WIN 10 so it's just really a USB hub for me.
If I'm missing something I'd love to know.

Great unit, OSX Mojave requires a driver install.
Required a driver update for my Mac which was a pain to find, but once I installed— works great, good form factor easy to plug and unplug my multiple devices on the go.
Loaded up now and works like a charm.

This inexpensive device really revs up my home network and Internet use. Even though my WiFi is good, hub supercharges the connection.

Device no longer supported on Mac OS and no customer support
This device worked great for about 2 months until I reinstalled Mac OS. The driver must no longer be supported because it would not install this time around. I tried contacting Asix (who apparently offers the driver) and received no response. I tried contacting Monoprice as well - no response.
This device is now useless to me as a USB hub or ethernet port.

Great adapter at s great price
Uses the Asix 88179 chipset which works on Windows, Mac, Linux. I use it a lot with VMware player on Linux/Windows without issue. I have hammered it with iperf3 during core switch deployments and can maintain 930+Mbps.
