Premium 3D Printer Filament PLA 3mm 1kg/spool, Red

Get outstanding 3D printing results when you use 3.0mm PLA 3D Printer Filament from Monoprice!

PLA is a good choice for a printing material if you are looking for high accuracy and high resolution. It extrudes at lower temperatures, does not require a heated base, and has a very low shrinkage rate (0.3%). PLA is harder than ABS, but is therefore also a bit more brittle.

This 1 kg spool features a thickness of 3.0mm ±0.10mm, with a roundness variation of only 0.03mm. It has a nominal processing temperature of 185° C (365°F). Thickness and roundness factors are laser measured at the factory to ensure accuracy over the entire length of the filament.

The negatives of using PLA is that it is vulnerable to degradation from moisture, sunlight, and heat. Additionally, it is more prone to overheating during processing, which can cause dripping and drooping if it gets too hot.

    Reel Dimensions:

    • Reel Diameter: 195mm (7.68")
    • Hub Diameter: 95mm (3.74")
    • Spindle Diameter: 38mm (1.50")
    • Reel Width: 80mm (3.15")

    More an Orange/Red
Has been printing well for weeks in a Velleman K8200. No jams. Nice, shiny, semi translucent prints. Color is more orange/red than red, but I like it better than a regular red, which would look like jolly ranchers.

Material is very tough. The blue color is good as well.

PROS: Came vacuum sealed with desiccant to keep out humidity.

CONS: None so far. Have used about 1/3rd of the reel.

Best of the 3 PLA colors on site to print with
Printing at 195C without a hotbed with hair sprayed base with Prusa Nozzle MKII. Works well.

PROS: Tougher than the black or white ones from the site so extruder won't jam on the hobbed bolt as much when printing at a good pressure level.

CONS: Due to it being more rigid than the other 2 colors on the site, you really have to hair spray the base plate like mad if you don't have a hot bed or it will simply not stick down.

Nice - it is a translucent red
Very pleased with the performance, price and look of this filament. Works great in my bowden Prusa i2, no jams (unlike the while PLA) with a diameter that is at or below the 3mm. High quality, I'll be back for more once I use this up.

PROS: Unlink the white PLA, this filament is in spec. Great price, well packed (sealed with desiccant) on a nice spool. It's translucent and has a slight orange tint, and it's very attractive.

    CONS: None, high quality.

    Good filament for the price
As anyone who owns a 3d printer I am on the hunt for inexpensive but quality filament. I purchased a roll of 3mm Red PLA from Monoprice to give it a try. While I'm not fully happy with the semi-translucent red color I have no complaints about it's performance as a printing material. I used a slightly higher temperature (195c with initial layer at 205c, 50mm/s print speed with 25mm/s first layer, .14 layer height) as I noticed it was a bit thicker when extruding to purge the previous filament. I was expecting to have to tweak settings more but the first print I tried it with came out very close to the previous filament. I did take numerous measurements of diameter and averaged it out for extrusion rates. There is a bit more variance than my normal filament but it hasn't caused any significant issues and considering it's half the price it's hard to complain.

    PROS: Inexpensive

CONS: Red is semi-translucent rather than a true solid red. In thick areas it doesn't show much but in thin parts it's more obvious.
