Is there a version of this that serves simply as a short extension cord without splitting the signal?

BEST ANSWER: I am not aware of that configuration. I use these to connect multiple stereo phono in jacks on multiple receivers to MP3 player for background music.

From the little I know, the splitter will split the signal into stereo. If you want mono I'd go with a single rca

I need to connect my headphones and my mic to one single 3.5 mm port on my laptop, can you please tell me which cable should I use?

BEST ANSWER: That port is output for headphone or input for microphone not both together. The splitter is so two headphones can listen at same time or share signal to other amplified devices

This splitter is for two streo outputs into one speaker system. Not made for a mic. You need a different cord for that with three different rings on the end. Right left and mic.

Thanks for your answer, and does Monoprice sell that one? I've looking for it but haven't seen it so far.

Is this wired series or parallel?

BEST ANSWER: Neither, it merely takes the stereo output signal from your device and splits it into two stereo signals.
Hope this helps.

Is there a way to combine 2 outputs into one? So I can use 2 outs and the receiver will just play whatever is sending a signal?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
That would be a 3.5 audio switch which we would not carry.
Sorry about any inconvenience this may have caused.

3.5 mm stereo splitter cable
This splitter cable is doing its job in connecting sound equipment involved in a Livestream. The cable does not introduce noise, and looks good while sitting on the desk.

Monoprice 6" 3.5mm stereo splitter
Monoprice 6 inch, 3.5mm stereo splitter, is exactly as pictured! A high quality splitter, with very flexible cable, and actual metal input/output jacks and housing! I'm pleasently suprised!

High quality OOPS
Everything I've bought from Monoprice has been excellent, but I returned these. I made the mistake of not ordering 1/4"

Much more solid than others I?ve owned.
Very sturdy and well built. Molded plastic at the split and tight plugs at the ends keep everything wired up and in place?especially appreciated by active kids sharing a tablet in backseat!

Perfect, snappy and gold plated
Literally the best audio splitter out there for 3.5mm jacks. The connection is solid and it even snaps into place (makes a sound) so you know you have a good connection. The cables are thick too, very sturdy!
