Using MHL to VGA adapter to connect Samsung Tab 4 to projector. Charges well. Does not allow signal to be transferred from tablet to projector. Will allow signal from Samsung S2 cell to project and display on monitor. Seems to be a durable quality device.
PROS: Works with Samsung S2 cell.
CONS: Does not have signal recognition on two different VGA projectors or a VGA connected monitor.
Thank you for your review. Please note that the Samsung Tab 4 is not MHL compatible so it will not work with this adapter. Should you have any further questions regarding our products, please feel free to contact our tech support team either via live chat or via email at tech@monoprice.com.

Not Working
1/5
PROS: Hard to say if I can't get it to work.
CONS: Doesn't work. Hooked up to Samsung notepro 12.1 to vga projector and the projector doesn't see it and no image is produced.
It works flawlessly and as advertised. Thanks Monoprice!
PROS: Works well converting signal on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition with the recommended 5pin to 11pin Micro USB Adapter for MHL Adapters and Samsung Galaxy SIII & S4. No trouble communicating between tablet and VGA projector. Build quality seems solid.
CONS: None really. I did have trouble with the female 3.5mm jack at first I could not get the male speaker jack to fully engage, but firm pressure (more than I've had to use with other jacks) worked. Once you figure this out, there are no cons.
When I get it working it will be very useful. I got the MHL to VGA and the MHL to HDMI adapters to use with my Samsung S4. I bought two 5/11 converters knowing I will loose or break one. The MHL to HDMI works fine. I could not get the 5/11 converter to MHL to VGA to work. I tried both my 5/11 converters. Comparing the MHL to HDMI units MHL connector on the 5/11 converter it was obviously to larger to fit it int allowed space in most protective cases.
PROS: It is very handy for testing all kinds of video hookups.
CONS: To many connections. A fundamental flaw in the design 5/11 converter I need to hook this to my S4 is the length of the plug that goes into the phone is to short in many cases (manufacturing variation). The length as designed works every time if you have the phone with no protective cover. In fairness the plug is not actually to short the body housing the adapter is to large and interferes with the connection. I suspect the vast majority of failures involving the 5/11 converter are just this issue.
First one failed to work. It will charge the tablet, but no output to a VGA projector or display. I just tested the second one of these, and it also does not work. My device, a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is on the MHL compliance list, followed the link from this description. But there is no video output.
For those struggling with the power, this adapter just requires you plug your phone charger power plug into it. I have t-mobile Samsung Galaxy S 3 with jellybean. bought the 11pin to 5pin adapter as required and mentioned on the product page. Connected VGA cable from monitor to MHL-VGA adapter connected speakers to MHL-VGA adapter plugged phone power chord into the MHL-VGA plugged the 11 pin to 5 pin adapter into my phone, plugged MHL-VGA adapter into the11 pin to 5 pin adapter.
"HDMI connected" shows on phone and vga screen showed desktop of phone.
also works fine with my friends GS2 without the 11 to 5 pin adapter.
only con is the aspect ratio issues but it is still better to watch it on the bigger monitor.
PROS: Worked to output to my monitor on vga when the dvi input of my monitor would not accept the hdmi signal with a hdmi to dvi adapter.
CONS: Monitor is 4:3 aspect and hdmi output is 16x9. the resulting video is stretched tall and there is no way to adjust this.
What cable do I need to make this adapter work? I need something that will go from a female micro USB connector to a standard USB on a PC.
PROS: ...wait and see. -)
CONS: I just thought I could plug this into the micro USB on my cell phone and it would work. Evidently I need another cable or adapter to make this work... I missed what it said in the description, "The second cable has a female micro USB connector, which should be connected to a USB power source to power the adapter."
I would think that if it needed power it would have put a standard USB in place of this female micro USB connecter. Either that or this is for some other device than a cell phone and a PC and I'm simply confused.
CONS: Samsung Galaxy Nexus-Looking to hook nexus up to projector. Received first one-screen all green-Received 2nd one and picture was cut in half. So long story short don't buy unless monoprice actually tests it before it ships out. Love Monoprice but this item is defective!
