Purchased a Mac Pro (over $3200) and as per Apple's recommendation, I purchased their Mini DisplayPort/FireWire to HDMI adapters. Got the computer, hooked up three monitors (HDMI) and one TV (HDMI). Only two would work at a time. Turns out APPLE was wrong. I even chatted and talked to several of their support personnel, and nobody could figure it out. So I had to for myself... You can only hook up 2 HDMI to the Mac Pro. So you need to either buy all expensive thunderbolt displays, or simply buy these ACTIVE adapters/converters. This product actually converts a FW/MDP to HDMI, so the computer think's it's FW/MDP. Thus escaping the HDMI limitation because you can hook up to six FW/MDP to the Mac Pro. Plus, these are really inexpensive.

If you're trying to stream TV from Mac to your television this product is perfect. No glitch in connection and the picture comes through great. I probably would have spent 2 to 3x for the product elsewhere, that is if anyone else carried it. Great product.

Works with the MDP on my Surface Pro 3, which is why I bought it. Hard to get excited about an adapter.

PROS: It's an adapter that works with MDP.

Picture and sound come through fine.



CONS: I guess it could be smaller or less expensive.

PROS: At first I couldn't get the audio to work connecting my laptop into TV with this adaptor, but the Tech Support Team emailed me back immediately, told me the correct settings, and now works great... So not only great product, but great tech support!

I just bought a MacBook Air (2/2016) and don't know a lot about tech/specs. This was really easy, just plug and play. Audio and video go through clearly. If it holds up, I would highly recommend this product!

Bought this to use with my Mac Mini to drive the second screen. The best part is that this is HDMI, so I can use the built in speakers in the HDTV that I'm using. Apple doesn't even offer a comparable product. Well built and works perfectly!

This adapter is perfect if your MacBook does not have the HDMI port. The price is right, and quality is spot on. It just works, what more do you want? I am able to push movies (legally obtained) in every format imaginable to my TV with sound, and if I wish, I can push that sound to my reciever and it detects the format (DTS, DD, D, etc..)



No complaints yet, and I've had this for 2+ years, still works. Still entertaining the kids with it.

Pushes DTS, DD5.1 to my TV which is daisy chained to my reciever via optical/digital. Sound is spot on.

Got this and a long HDMI cable for my daughter who is away at college. She used it to connect an Insignia 32" 1080p TV as a second monitor to her MacBook Air for watching youtube and Netflix. It worked so well that she called me a "Magical Human". Enough Said!

Given the price and my prior experiences with Monoprice products (EXCELLENT), I wish this was a good solution. When it worked, it worked very well. Hoping this is a defective unit. Going to try and get a replacement ASAP.

CONS: Worked first night, woke up to find the second monitor (enabled by this product) was not working. Trouble shot best I could. It seems to have failed. I get a glitchy screen flicker every once in a while and see the desktop image. But its not around long enough to use.

have not had it very long and it went out right before I had to go on stage for my gig! really made me look bad! at first I thought it may have been my splitter( which I also purchased here) but quickly realized it was this product! really don't have time to return it! but I need it and wouldn't you figure, they're out of them! that's just about par!

Great video and audio quality. I did not experience any of the screen flickering issues that have been mentioned. Works perfectly with my Macbook Air with thunderbolt port. Monoprice has great customer support as well. The audio did not work straight out of the box like I expected. I contacted Monoprice customer support through their online chat and they promptly helped me change my Macbook's audio settings. Definitely worth the cost!

This product works great and seems to be of higher quality build than Monoprice's previous Thunderbold to HDMI adapter. This adapter is approximately $20 cheaper than the one found on Apple's website and works perfectly. There is no sacrifice in quality.

PROS: Price. Quality. Build. Video and audio are as great as they are from a more expensive adapter.

CONS: My previous Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter from Monoprice did break after 2 1/2 years.

About the shipping, I am located in Canada (Quebec). I ordered my package April 20, 2015 and I received May 4, 2015 via USPS. The delivery is good. About this product, the manual of the device does not help much to troubleshooting. I spent 3 hours trying to connect my mid-2012 iMac to my 2008 Samsung TV. I finally found I need to change the TV display settings (set at 1080i rather than 1080p) on my iMac for it works with my TV. Finally, the product is good and all works great after found this.

I have really enjoyed watching movies from my Macbook to my TV through the receiver. I am always a fan of hard wired connections. I have not experienced any issues with it so far.

As with most products on Monoprice, you get quality goods for bargain prices and this is no exception. I purchased 4 of these for my department at a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere.

The first device that I received was defective. When I reported the problem Monoprice sent a replacement which worked great. Thank you for the great service. The response to my complaint was immediate and welcome.

This mini Display port to HDMI adaptor works great on the HP and Lenovo I haven't tested with Apple yet. I now only purchased active devices because of issues i have had with non-active adaptors.

Previously if I tried to hook up a 3rd monitor my computer would get into a weird state where I had to restart my computer. Ever since I got 2 of these I have been able to run all my monitors without issue. :)

Worked perfectly "plug & play" with my macbook air into both our HD TVs (two different brands). If you want the audio to come out of the TV, click the TV name under Sound in System Preferences on the laptop. Need an HDMI cable to plug into converter & TV.

We bought this to connect a 2nd monitor. The other 2-piece adaptor we were using created a lot of monitor static, my brand new 2nd monitor looked awful. We bought this which combines the previous 2 connectors into one, and this fixed the poor connection. My monitor now looks great, the way it should!

Purchased this for my 27" iMac. Using it on Bootcamp with Windows 7 to play my Steam games on my larger TV. Video worked instantly. Had to go into Device Manager to move the sound from the iMac to the Samsung TV.



Haven't tested the Mac side yet, but I figured I'd review the device on the PC side since no one had done that yet.

PROS: Showed up fast a shell (3 days ground shipping) and worked out of the box. The instructions were easy to follow to get the sound working.

CONS: Audio took 3 seconds to set up instead of it instantly working. That's barely a con, so it will not affect my rating.

It took me a while to figure out exactly how to connect it from computer to monitor but once i got it ri1i works perfectly with Windows

Connected to my TV through the cable that was in the Tivo. Mac recognizes change does the rest.

This works great for a second monitor on my 2012 27" iMac. The only hitch was that it required a complete shutdown (not just a restart) for it work.

Don't be duped by those overpriced adapters in the big box stores. I bought a mini-display to vga at Best Buy once for 30 bucks and it broke within 60days..... I bought an 8 dollar equivalent on monoprice and i'm still using it to this day! So when i needed an HDMI adapter i knew where to stop first.... MONOPRICE.COM!

PROS: It does exactly what it says it will do.

CONS: There is a better alternative at Monoprice if you are going from a Mac with Thunderbolt to an HDMI monitor. The better alternative is item number 9474 (6 ft) or 9475 (10 ft) cable with audio. You have the appropriate plugs on each end and it works great.



As mentioned with this adapter, it did require a full restart to recognize the monitors. This will also work with your Macbook Pro (current version).

This product is worth every penny of $15.
After two years, mine has started to malfunction. The external monitor sometimes has a purple screen after waking the computer and I have to unplug and replug it in. And in the last couple day now it just randomly stops working and my external monitor says no signal. I'm pretty sure it is this product and not my mac because I've tried switching the thunderbolt port and nothing changed. Other than this, very good product.

I'm running this on my MacBook Pro to display dual monitors. It does the job. I would have given it a 10 if it wasn't so sensitive when moving the laptop around, it loses it connection from time to time.

PROS: It works as stated to display my secondary monitor setup.

CONS: Kind of bulky. Moving or sliding laptop or computer around causes the connection to lose connectivity... I guess that depends on your setup.

I noticed AFTER my purchase that Monoprice has added the 1920x1080 disclaimer. Wish I would have seen that before attempting use at higher resolution.

Exactly what I needed to get a second monitor working with my 2014 Mac mini. Thought it would be fully plug&play...but I had to fully shut down my Mac, then restart in order for the second monitor to start working properly. Monoprice's tech support were the ones who suggested I do the full restart, so they were wonderfully helpful also!

PROS: Works exactly as advertised. Inexpensive.

CONS: Included instructions should note that a full shut down & restart may be required to get the adapter working properly.

I used the previous, cheaper Monoprice adapter (Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support 5311) with my iMac to output 1080p to my HDTV in another room using a 100ft Monoprice cable for several years. Mavericks and Yosemite introduced flickering with this setup, so I had been booting into Mountain Lion or Windows 7 via boot camp for use with the TV. I recently purchased a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter that supports greater bandwidth than this adapter does and enables 4k output (if supported by the display). If that cable supports 4k over Thunderbolt, this one should be updated to support it as well. This cable is twice the price of that cable and the Monoprice Mini DisplayPort to HDMI but is still limited to 1080p (1920x1080) output. The only thing that this Thunderbolt to HDMI cable offers over the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter is sound output on some Macs. I would recommend buying a cheaper Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter with 4k output elsewhere until Monoprice updates the Thunderbolt spec on this one.
