California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar - Sunburst
You know it when you hear it. That distinctive California Classic sound made famous by artists like Dick Dale, David Gilmour, and Ritchie Blackmore. Whether it is the surf, blues, psychedelic rock, country, or classic hard rock, this California Classic Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice is the perfect axe for your daily practice and performance needs.
This full-sized, 22-fret guitar features a double-cutaway body made of basswood, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses three single-coil pickups in the bridge, middle, and neck positions. A five-position selector switch allows you to use each of the three pickups individually, while the 2 and 4 positions combine the neck and bridge pups with the middle one for that distinctive "quack" sound. A tremolo/whammy bar is included for note bending.
Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), the tremolo/whammy bar, a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Im very impressed with this guitar for the price. Ive never bought such a cheap guitar but with all the positive reviews and that I was tipsy at 2am and bored I decided to buy it. VERY glad I did.
For beginners, dont worry that the strings suck, you change guitar strings all the time and they are cheap. Strings should NEVER factor into purchasing a guitar.
The neck was straight, frets looked fine, no buzzing from the strings fretting out, the finish on the body was excellent.
I put on some new strings and intonated the guitar with my strobe tuner....If you really want this guitar to sound its best you are going to need to change strings to what you like and then intonate the guitar the those strings....google it. (the guitar will still sound good to a beginners ear without an intonation).
Obviously the parts are not top of the line but they more than work. My one complaint, but it was to be expected, was the bridge tremelo system, when you use it the strings go out of tune instantly unless used extremely lightly. To fix/upgrade this would cost about $50 for locking tuners, $12 for rolling string trees, $12 for a new nut, and $50-100 for a new bridge. After that it would play perfect...If you wanna go one step further upgrade the pickups and pots for another $100 and you will have a very impressive guitar for dirt cheap....All that said this guitar plays great just as it is. I read these reviews over and over before buying because I couldnt believe what people were saying...well it was all true...This is a great value for what it is
THIS IS THE GUITAR YOU SHOULD BUY IF YOU WANT A CHEAP GUITAR THAT WORKS!!! THIS IS BETTER THAN CHEAP-O FENDER GUITARS.
PROS: Everything is amazing for the price
CONS: Tremelo will cause guitar to go out of tune...but please read my full review
HOW DO YOU DO IT MONOPRICE?!?!?!
PROS: This thing is so cheap. In fact, as cheap as toy guitars at the toy store. But make no mistake, it is an AMAZING instrument. Bought it on a whim, figuring if it makes noise at all I could use a strat sound on something and tune to the chord I was playing.
It came perfectly set up, perfectly intonated, made of real, not laminate, wood. The hardware is great. Kills Squiers that cost 3x as much. Seriously, just a joy to play. Octaves are still octaves all the way up. Nothing frets out. The finish is perfect.
I do not know how they do this for this price. And a gig bag too?
CONS: The electronics & strings, obviously. Just replace them.
PROS: Great tone, neck plays like butter, nice low action, stays in tune fairly well, extremely fast neck, beautiful finish, just a great guitar.
CONS: Tuners could be better but are dequate. Not sure how hardware will hold up over the long run but also seems adequate.
PROS: - Price is unreal
- Build Quality is exceptional
- Play Quality was so much better than expected, exceeded expectations
- Suprisingly, this guitar has a really great tone
- Exceptional value
CONS: - Absolutely None!!
- Strings are a bit thin for the avg or moderate player, but perfect for the beginner player. So expect to put thicker guage strings on this guitar and you will be flying in the clouds!
PROS: not too heavy
came set up and ready to go
PROS: Good looking, functional
to their own personal preference. The range of tones is amaxing, especially considering there were no buzzes, squawks, or foreign radio stations being picked up! I may just buy another guitar, but in a different color, of course.Well done!
PROS: Ok, so it's not a Fender, but at that price, what would you expect? What I did get was an exceptional value, right out of the box.Ok, string replacement is a given, but the pots worked fine, no static, and audio taper was fine. After a few days, tho, the neck did need a 'tweek', as it started to get some fret buzz that it didn't have at first. This is normal, as the wood/neck gets acclimated to your area.It came with gig bag, allen wrenches, and a signed certificate of tech who set up guitar before shipment.Finish was way better than expected.I would readily order another, but I'd have to figure out how to hide it from my wife )
CONS: Strings were cheap, but easily replaced.I'd rather see cut corners in this area, than another area like frets or electronics.
CONS: Needed some adjusting to eliminate buzz, nothing complicated
The bag it comes with is just a dust cover
Neck feels good as does all the hardware, sounds like a full priced strat after putting some DR 10's on the guitar.
Every part I have looked up from a strat MIM will fit on this guitar, Hmmmm?
If you are looking for a good playing guitar then you have found it right here on MonoPrice this is a outstanding piece of musical equipment and by the way the neck feels fantastic and has blazing fast action right out of the box without not even the slightest fret buzz (Thanks, Roger Gresco) who would have thought all this for under $90, for all you skeptics out there who feel you have to pay a small fortune for a great sounding quality built instrument you might better rethink this one and give it a shot you won't be sorry.
How are you doing this MonoPrice? Who are you getting to build these guitars? they a top notch.
By the way I bought this "California Classic" and the "Route 66" and both are equally as good in their own distinctive ways.
For those of you on the fence come on over you will not regret this purchase, if you can't tell I am mind boggled in how in the world MonoPrice can produce, sell and make a profit on such a nice guitar this is no el cheapo like you find on auction sites and pawn shops trust me I know.
PROS: Beautiful Guitar(Finish)not a bad spot nowhere on the guitar, Quality build, parts and sound.
These guitars have it all, I have some very expensive guitars and equipment and this guitar is no slouch or sacrifice to any of my other instruments.
Basswood sounds brillent with great tones and undertones.
Maple Neck and Rosewood Fretboard.
CONS: Strings are not the best and I will replace the Nut with a Tusq®.
Included pick sucks
