Not too much to elaborate about here. A standard Monoprice XLR shell with a resistor soldered in. While it's nothing exciting, it does give me peace of mind that my lights won't decide to go all wonky at the wrong time. Another solid value from Monoprice!
It's a DMX terminator, plug it in and that's the job. I did knock it down 1 star as it just looks like a unused XLR connector complete with missing cable. Something more identifying that it is a DMX terminator would be appreciated.
I built my own DMX terminators using some discarded mic cables. However, the ends were silver and clashed with the light fixtures. These are black and inexpensive and saved me from having to make any more on my own.
Great DMX terminator, works as described and intended, and the price can't be beat for a 3-pin connector with a resistor.
This product is ideal to use at the end of a long line of DMX chained lights. It's not necessary to have a terminator at the end of the chain, and is usually okay not to include one with fewer lights but, the more lights you add to the chain, the higher potential of having an issue somewhere. A DMX terminator will solve most issues involving a haywire light or a single head not responding fully/properly.
I added one of these to the end of my studio mood lighting chain, and while I had no issues without it, I now feel more comfortable that none of the lights should act up, and I can add more lights with confidence.
PROS: - Inexpensive and cost effective
- Does what it is designed and intended to do
- Solid build quality
- Can't beat the price for a DMX terminator
CONS: As someone else mentioned, it would be nice if there was a small indication on the connector to notify you it's a terminator with a resistor inside, and cannot be used as a XLR end.
