Is the head shell removable? I know the cartridge is but from the pictures I cant tell if there is a threaded collar to remove the entire head shell off of the tone arm.

on Feb 14, 2024
BEST ANSWER: Since this was originally assembled, I suppose you could get it off the tubular tonearm, but WHY? The head shell is factory installed to the tonearm. Without precision fixtures to reinstall the head, you will have a very difficult time trying to get the head affixed properly.

Thank you for your thoughts. One reason why is I have an assortment of angled style headshells that have quality carts pre-mounted from Ortofon, AT and Grado. I inherited them from my uncle along with his turn Table. I am looking at this one for a system in my office and would like to be able to roll carts. I can probably take the carts off the headshell's but it is very inconvenient and I suffer from hyper tension that gives me very bad shakes doing tedious things. The turntable my uncle gave me is very convenient as it has a collar that allows you to swap out the entire headshell. I am probably going to have to spend more for a better table in the end. Thank you for your time.

Yes, it does have a removable head shell. The stock cartridge definitely punches above its weight, but I have been thinking about swapping mine out with a slightly higher end cartridge from another turntable just to see what it can do on this unit.

Can you ground this turntable?
A shopper
on Jul 6, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I connected a thin ground wire from the turntable to the back of my amp which had a ground terminal connection. If you are still getting distortion/feedback/noise from the turntable? Check the small dip switch on the back of the turntable. I went through the grounding and still had noise. Flipping the dip switch to the other setting solved the problem.

Great value
Bang for the buck this is a fantastic turntable! Unpacking and setup took about 30 minutes. The first few records I played did have some slightly noticeable speed warbles, but that was gone within about 10 record plays. I am running it thru a small ART preamp and then an equally small Aiyima amplifier to some Bose speakers. Very happy with this as a basic starter setup.

Excellent replacement for Fluance
My Fluance turntable ($500) stopped working so I replaced it with this Monoprice and am very pleased with the results. Sounds great and they separated the speed control from the power control, which is where the Fluance broke.

Great record player! The first one I received didn't work properly. We think it was a cartridge problem. Monolith replaced the entire record player with a new one and it works great. Customer service is great.

Good for the Price
Overall I am satisfied with the turntable and the price is great. It looks fantastic and the sound is good out of the speakers. My only issue is the anti skate is difficult to balance and the needle noise is quite loud. Can be a little bit distracting when playing certain records at lower volumes.

Painful setup, but great turntable after setting up
Great turntable! Set-up took some time and the setup guide wasn't helpful (I had to resort to watching a handful of youtube videos and just winging it). The anti-skating weight setup was especially tough, and the other weight wasn't easy either. Once you get past setup, the turntable is awesome.

Great, except for built in phono pre.
Really nice TT for the money, but I had some issues with the built in phono amp. I was getting some very low frequency signal wobble in my woofers and midrange hash, improved somewhat after grounding it to my SMSL DA-9. Symptoms same even after lifting the needle. Not bad enough to return it, but knocking a star off for it.

Good Value Turntable, however....
Directions are probably OK for Stereo Shop techs, but I found them a bit confusing and vague. The Cartridge was well protected but was not correctly attached to the tonearm. Why not do that in the factory? Initial sound was awful until I tried flipping a tiny switch on the back of the turntable. Great sound after that fix.
Now that I've used it many times, i've got one more critique. If you try to raise the dust cover with one hand, the turntable moves. The leveling legs at the front do not provide enough friction. There are no back legs, just what seems to be the motor cover on the bottom. Possibly adding a thin adhesive pad would help stabilize the unit.

I think the best combination of features at this price point compared to other brands. It would be even better if it had "auto-return ". Set up was pretty simple, I have not used it enough yet to comment on actual quality of playback

A good turntable
I like the turntable a lot however I had to try twice to get it to work. The first turntable had a slight buzzing, after trying new cables, a different cartridge and even a different location the buzzing persisted. I returned it to Monoprice and got a replacement that works as desired. For the price this is a good unit for my application.
