i bought this to mirror the display from one 27" imac to another 27" imac, 15ft away. both computers have mini display ports, and are updated to most recent OS. system preferences won't detect another display, so I cannot move forward. any clues? looked everywhere online and can't figure it out, because it seems like this cord should work! thank you, ryan

BEST ANSWER: I don't think you can use a mac as a 'screen' - BUT you CAN "screen share" two macs, so you can display Screen #1 on Mac screen #2

My company purchased several different colors of these Ethernet cables; part number 2289 in support of the Federal Government Tasking. I need to know the Country of origin for these cables as well as the following part numbers to ensure they are TAA compliant: 5993, 3896, 9170, 12740, and 5302. Are all these cables manufactured in China?

Doesn't Work In All Applications
Purchased this to connect a Surface Pro 3 to two Dell displays, daisy chained. Get full resolution on the first display, but second display only gets 1024 X 768 resolution (it's native 1920 X 1080). Spent a lot of time trying to solve this issue changing drivers, updating firmware, etc. Removed this cable, replaced it with a 6' cable purchased from Monoprice at the same time - and presto, full resolution. DisplayPort is supposedly designed for runs up to 15 meters, but this cable apparently isn't.
PROS: Hard to say since I can't use it
CONS: Doesn't work in my application

Response from Monoprice
Hello Scott,
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 5993 did not work out with your needs. I just wanted to note that while Displayport can be ran up to 15 meters as mentioned, the full bandwidth may not be supported for that long of a run unless an active cable is being used. For 1080p over a Displayport v1.1 cable, it would be best to keep the distance 3 meters or shorter. Anything longer than that can cause signal degradation which would lead to lower resolutions. My apologies for the trouble and I hope this helps!

DP limitations
I was trying to minimize the length of the run for the VGA cables on a MacBook mini-DP to Matrox triplehead2go mini-DP input (mini-DP in/3 VGA out). I had hoped that I could run two 15ft cables for 30 total, but it didn't even work with one. I don't know if this is a limitation of the DP physical interface, or if the triplehead2go is marginal. Since there seems to be no specification for how far you should be able to drive a DP signal down a cable (meeting certain cable specifications of course), it's probably going to be hit or miss what the maximum length of cable you can use for any given set up.
BTW, Matrox tech support was worthless I asked how long I could run the DP cable and got a reply that said they only test them with standard length VGA monitor cables.
PROS: Well, it's a mini-DP cable.
CONS: It didn't work for my application.

Works beautifully with iMac 27in
Using this cable with a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort adapter to connect my PC with an ATI 4850 with DisplayPort to my iMac 27in with Mini-DisplayPort. Running the PC 15ft away from my iMac at 2560x1440 resolution. Image quality is great with the cable on the iMac. No setup issues. Great price and fast shipping with Monoprice.com!
