Can I use this cable to run from my modem, through the wall and up into my crawlspace and down through another wall to connect to my solar array monitor mounted inside my garage?

BEST ANSWER: "federal, state, or local law/ordinance/code" -- that stuff only applies to commercial applications unless you're running the cable inside of your HVAC returns or ducts, and then you need "plenum" rated because of the extreme temperatures it will get exposed to.
You're talking about crawlspace, and use the word "up" into my crawlspace, so you don't need to worry about ground/soil contact. If you're going to run it along the ground so it meets soil, you should either run it through low voltage conduit or get bury rated cable. But from everything you' ve stated, this will work fine. You didn't mention the length, but the longest here of 100Ft, is fine for your application.

Technically yes, that would work. However federal, state, or local law/ordinance/code might dictate that you use what’s called “plenum” cable. Regular cables like this have a PVC jackst which let off toxic fumes when burned. If they’re run near HVAC plenums like in a wall or crawl space, they could pose significant health hazard in the event of a fire. Plenum cables are made from a different material that burns “clean”(er)

If you buy a cable long enough it will work. However, I would prefer to make my own cable for long runs such as this. CAT6 cable can be used in a 10G application, but there is a distance limitation of 55M (180ft). To reach full 100M (330ft) length, CAT6A cable must be used

Technically yes you can but this isn't an in wall rated cable so I'd strongly recommend using an in wall rated cable. Also it already has ends which could make it difficult to run the cable through walls as the ends are wider then the cable itself.

I'm running ethernet about 25 feet from normal router to household laptop (from my internet provider to computer), about 150Mbps is my current internet speed... it will be routed next to other household wires and cables... should I do Cat6a, 7, or 8?
Business A
on Apr 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Cat6a is definitely sufficient for any normal home use as you described. It will support at least 1gbps for distances up to (and usually beyond) 100 meters. The shielded patch cable is not really needed for your application, but it won't hurt anything either. The only requirement is that both ends of the cable need to have a grounded connection. Your laptop and your router would both have this grounded connection. If you were to connect to a wall jack though, it would likely not be grounded and thus the shielding would offer no benefit. The only downsides to shielded cable are the slight increase in price, and it will be a slightly beefier/thicker/heavier cable.

The connection from router to computer is likely a 1000BASE-T (gigabit Ethernet) connection. Just as a side note that this is different from the 150Mbps connection from your ISP to the router they gave you. So Cat5e is sufficient for a run of 25’. Cat6a is really only needed if you are running 10GBASE-T (10 gigabit Ethernet).

Can this cable be used outdoors and if not what will happen if you do? Thank you

on Jan 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: While fairly heavy duty, this type of cable is not intended for outdoor use, especially the connectors.
I'm sure it would work fine for a while, but you'd probably have to replace the cable eventually.
I would recommend running the cables thru plastic conduit, with a box to house the connections, to protect them from the weather.

Yes Natalie you can used this cable for outdoors. Just make sure that it is not immersed in water or liquids at the lan jacks. Common sense. The cable is pretty rugged.

If equipped, your networking equipment will have metal tabs that will make contact with the shield on the jack when it is inserted.

are the cat6a ethernet cable rated for 600 volts?

BEST ANSWER: It doesn't say on the cable but I doubt it. The markings on the 7-foof cable are: "CAT 6A STP PATCH 3P VERIFIED TO ISO/IEC 11801 ED.2 & ANSI/TIA -568-C.2 & IEC 60332-1-2 26AWGX4P CMX(UL) E164469-F3 RoHS COMPLIANCE V10277 WWW.MONOPRICE.COM". I also purchased some 10-foot cables from this series and those have no markings whatsoever on the cable sheath., which I find dubious. I hope this helps.

Excellent. Recomended.
So I bought several lengths of Augmented Category 6 Ethernet cable for my hard wired connection. I have 60Mbps, 3Mbps connection. I wanted the absolute best Ethernet cable for my hard wired connection, so I bought (1x)100 FT, (3x)7 FT, (2x)5 FT, & (1x)1 FT Augmented Category 6 cables from MonoPrice, as well as the 10/100 8 port fast Ethernet switch. I also did video UnBoxings for all the items I've bought from MonoPrice in crystal clear 1080p @ 20Mbps which was recently uploaded to YouTube. I always reply to my comments on YouTube.
I'm very satisfied with my hard wired Augmented Category 6 Ethernet connection.
I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and will, like I've been, will be ordering more stuff from MonoPrice in the future. I also have recommended MonoPrice to my friends and family in the past.
Nothing but excellence as far as service, and the quality of the products I've received from MonoPrice.
Thank You.
PROS: Excellent quality Augmented CAT6 Ethernet Cable. I'm using it for the Fast Ethernet Switch to my XBOX360 and using another 7FT one going to my laptop from the Fast Ethernet Switch as well.
CONS: I have absolutely no cons.
