How is this really any different to a cat5e jack - both cat 5 & 6 have the same pin-out?
Michael M
on Dec 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: cat5, cat5e, and cat6 are all different standards with different wire gages, insulation material and cat6 has a riser spine in all versions. A cat6 jack can be used with 5 or 5e but in general they are meant for cat6 wire. thicker terminals for thicker wire so the wires may not stay terminated properly if there is a lot of movement. In my home I have some cat6 ports terminating cat5e wiring but it is used only because it's what I had on hand, in a place that isn't used often.
if you can, use cat6 wire, terminals and ends. it is much better than 5e in the long term.

The cables are what makes the difference. A cat5e cable is a gigabit cable, but a cat6 carries gigabit over longer distance than a 5e. If you use the same config of wires punched in, on both ends of the wire, you are good.

Monoprice Cat6 Punch Down Keystone Jack for 22-24AWG Solid Wire, White
Monoprice 1-Gang Wall Plate for Keystone, 1-Port, White, 4.5"x2.75"x0.2", w/Screws (White Coated Screw Head)
Monoprice 1-Gang Wall Plate for Keystone, 2-Port, White, 4.5"x2.75"x0.2", w/Screws (White Coated Screw Head)
BEST ANSWER: The cable, jack and wall plate(s) will all play together nicely. One thing to note. This particular jack does not provide a ground tongue. So, if you use the shielded CAT6 cable you will not be able to terminate the ground lead onto this jack. You will need a CAT6 jack that supports shielding/grounding. If you don't care about connecting the ground - then you're good to go.

Does this Punch Down Jack work fine with Solid Ethernet cables or just stranded?
Mohammad M
on Feb 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Actually, I have never seen a jack for stranded. They make crimp on ends for stranded, but inside the wall cabling and terminations are always solid. If you must use stranded cable in the wall, look for a pass through plate or one that the RJ45 end clips in on the back and front.

There is no difference in the cable than what's on a spool, just factory terminated instead of on a spool. Patch away.

on Jan 27, 2022
BEST ANSWER: That is the normal size for a CAT 6 cable. Yes it will work. I installed this connector to all bedrooms and used the punch down tool.
Highly recommend purchase of the punch down tool. It simply works very well and makes the job fast, easy and ensure a quality connection.
Others have tried many different short cuts like screw drivers. This tool makes it a professional quality install.
These connectors are easy to use. Make a dry fit on first cable trim out of insulation and fit it for a final install. Once satisfied use the punch down tool and proceed.
Hope this helps.

The numbers on the jack should coordinate to that, as well as the color code on the jack. Although if you are color blind you may need assistance in termination regardless as the wire will need to be routed based on color.

BEST ANSWER: If you are asking if Leviton tools will work on this as far as 110 punch down tools then yes. This is a standard IDC (insulation displacement connector) and any brand punch tool will work with a 110 cut blade.

Does anyone know if this works with the Jackrapid system from Fluke, and if so, what head do I use?

what awg wire do these jacks support (23/22)?
I am specifically planning a Cta6 22awg CMP implementation.

Can I use this Cat6 keystone connector with Cat6a cable? I'm probably overdoing my home network using Cat 6a, and understand the home network is only as fast as the weakest part. I know both are capable of 10GBPS, but that Cat6a has a larger range. I have read conflicting information on the web about this, with some information indicating that there is no difference between Cat6 and Cat6a connectors.

Works well
I like having the option for many colors. I used these first for proving the concept for my networking work. I would use these again in the future

Works well
Installed wire with 110 punch tool. Need to aim tool carefully for it to cut right, as the cutting shoulder is shallow. These work with no problems.

Don' overthink it.
Been three decades since my last Network class. Used internet to find wiring scheme.
There seems to be a few different layouts that the pros will recognize know what is what. Me a home owner not so much.
So what works best is this: Simply follow the color code for this connector and it will work.
Installed fiver per the connector scheme and plugged in to router.
All systems worked first time no issues.

Thank you Mono for making this now an industry standard size.
I thank the reviewers that posted pictures of the new style jack.
These will now fit in a 4 or 6 port Decora style keystone insert(device), which is widely used on most residential jobs. Construction of the jack is superb. I go through hundreds of these per month and other brands cost twice to 3 times as much, Leviton, Wirepath, or similar industry brands. I've recently ordered my first 100 jacks and will continue to use this new model. Tip for some Pros, this jack will fit on the Wirepath keystone crimp tool that does all pairs at once, by filing down the base rails slightly.

BEWARE - THEY CHANGED THE PUNCH LAYOUT
Received my order 2 June 2021 and the keystones are bagged with the correct item number, but the punch layout of the keystones is totally different from what they've shipped before and different from what is pictured. If you're expecting the arrangement like is inpicture - that they've used forever -you're going to be disappointed.

As a novice definitely worth it
I bought a bunch of these thinking they would only be used in wall plates. After getting the Klein tool passthrough RJ45 modular plugs and having a few fail on me I ordered more to use these and then run the 1/2 or 1 foot cables from this to the switch. Premade cables are so cheap compared to the frustration of terminating the ethernet to an RJ45 for someone like myself.

Worked well, but not as shown.
These worked but are different than shown. No strain relief built in and they are so tight that I couldn't use my punch down tool. I managed to get them installed with little fuss though and they seem to be working.
