Will this print server work on Windows 10? I need to add a Laserjet CP1215 printer to my network, and the printer only has a USB cable on it, no network. Will the software that comes with this print server work on Windows 10, or can the firmware be upgraded to Work on Windows 10?

BEST ANSWER: For me, Yes and No. When I used the recommended Bonjou method, it would connect then it would have problems. This could be because of my network. I was easily able to setup as Standard TCP/IP (Static IP) and connect that way. I have two dymos that have worked flawlessly setup this way.

Yes, it works for my three Windows 10 systems. The standard software shipped with the device installs without problem on Windows 10. Be sure to use the fully qualified printer name and port set by the Monoprice server for the printer name in Windows.

I use it to connect my old HP Laserjet 3015 (BW printer, fax, and copier) to the network. It does make the printer visible on the network via the Ethernet cable connected to my network switch. The USB cable connects from the Print Server to the printer Occasionally the Printer Server "drops off" and I need to unplug the power, wait, then plug it back in. Once I do that the printer is visible again. I believe that is a feature with the power saver sleep mode of the printer and not the Print Server.. Good luck!

No, all this device does is connect a USB be printer to a wired network. You would need additional hardware and possibly software to connect to the printer to Iphone/Ipad.

No. Your printer needs to support air printing. This will just enable you to use a non-network printer on the network from your computer by adding a network print port.

Works great on the Macs but can't make it work on the Windows 10 computers... How about some updated Windows 10 drivers Monoprice?
A shopper
on Mar 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Try this:
Don't use any drivers for Windows printers. First, use the documentation to set a static IP address on the print server, then refer to the following for configuring your printer in Windows 10. Mac should still work.
>Select “Start” and type “advanced print” in the search box.
>Choose “Advanced printer setup“.
>Select “The printer that I want isn’t listed“.
>Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.
>Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.
>Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“.
>Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

I have a listed Brother printer and installed the manufacturer's printer software. I installed the Monoprice software and followed the directions in the Quick Installation Guide for a USB LPR printer setup. It took a couple of tries initializing the software and getting the printer and the software to recognize each other. The printer now works as a network USB wireless printer.

Does anyone know if this will work with a Square Register? I have an Epson TM-T20 kitchen printer that is USB-B only that I need to be connected to a 50 ft ethernet cable running to our wireless router. The Square register is USB only but also detects network printers. My only options at this point are to install an adapter like this or to re-run a 50 ft USB-B cable through our restaurant. So far I am not having much luck with cables that long.

BEST ANSWER: It's cheap enough to try. It may not detect it, but I've had luck setting up printers (HP) using standard TCP/P (LPR/LPD). Connect it directly and let it automagically create the printer. Note the IP and port. Then hook it up to your EN cable.
If it doens't find it,manually use the window screens to "set up a printer", select standard TCP?IP and plug in the new device IP (unless you go static) and the port you identified before. I played with it and finally got it to work. Yours ma differ

If it detects network printers, then it should work. Basically this turns the USB printer into a network printer. I have probably a dozen of these things hooked to Dymo LabelWriter printers and we can print to any of them from any PC on the network. I have no experience with the Square registers though, so no guarantees.

BEST ANSWER: I'm not 100% positive, but generally, Yes. This little box turns your USB printer into a network printer..."local cloud" printer. Beware, though, that some HP models of Deskjet will turn themselves off as a power-saving feature, which disconnects from this box, which forces you to reboot the box (pull power plug, push it back in) to reconnect.

No, it does not. Because the printer is no longer directly attached to my computer, the toner cartridge status is no longer visible. However, on my Brother laser printer, I can press the green Go button 3 times to generate a status page which shows me how much toner still remains in the cartridge.

The web interface of the print server does not provide a box to specify a default gateway on the print server's network configuration page. That implies to me that the print server will only work within the specific network subnet that it has been assigned an IP address.

Any chance of an updated firmware or driver for this product? The one I received had a firmware last updated in 2008, and I cannot make it work with Windows 10 at all. I see that others have been able to make it work, so I am wondering if mine may have been sent with downlevel firmware?
If not, are there any specific tips/tricks to make it work with Windows 10? I can install the software & get my supported printer set up & detected, but when I attempt to print, it simply freezes the print dialog.

Can i use this to print ethernet to a star micronics usb receipt printer?

i have a Dell 1260dn (actually many in sep sites). the printer has an ethernet and usb port. The printer support Apple Airprint. The ethernet port is connnected to a closed network. the printer does not have wifi and when connected via the ethernet connection, can only be accessed on this closed network. I have a 2nd network i wish to print from and thought perhaps this Monoprice USB 2.0 print server would allow that to happen. 2nd router>cat cable>usb print server>usb cable>printer. The printing from 2nd router would be iPad/Airprint only. I dont know much about the closed network and making configuration changes on it would not be possible. Would this work or any suggestions on how to make it work? thanks!

Easy installation and saved my old printer
I had an older Brother HL-L2320D laser printer that I needed to convert to a network printer to use with my Windows 10 computer. I followed the instructions and used the included installation software. It took me about 15 minutes to make sure that all the pieces were talking to each other, and the printer has worked flawlessly as a wireless printer ever since. This Monoprice Networking Print Server helped me to upgrade a perfectly good printer.

My printer wasn't supported
It seemed worth a try as I would have liked to make my old USB only Color Laserjet work wirelessly from my Android phone. Unfortunately HP doesn't support this printer using this USB to Wi-fi technique and the printer is even unseen on my phone. Soon to be cancelled Google Cloud sees the phone via USB but the lack of a driver stops even a direct Android print. I guess I could send the file to a Windows PC and print via USB but I still couldn't use this print server. Thus I can't give an appropriate review of its functionality. However still using USB2 seems a bit dated even for a print server.

Good price questionable results
I have used other brands before and they worked well and I have purchased from monopolize before with good results. However, this time windows saw the print servers but would not print to them. I did a search for answers and users on the net said an update first quarter 21 was the culprit. I tried all the suggestions but still phone no love. I have not returned them yet yet and will try again to fix the problem next week. If Microsoft does not have an answer by them.

Works great.
Used this device to share a Brother USB labeler between several computers. I had to load the driver software for the labeler on each machine, then install the print server and it's software. Two devices; two different offices. Works great.

Works with Beeprt BY-426 Label Printer
Just wanted to post here so people know that this can be used for label printers. I made it work with Beeprt BY-426 thermal printer.
I got the driver from Seagull. Connect everything and start driver installation. it asks for the connection type and you have to select LAN and then create a new TCP/IP port as per Mark L's review above. Once those steps are complete, you just continue to finish the installation and the printer should work fine.
Just as others have mentioned, reserve the IP, disable DHCP from print server web portal and you should be all set.

Couldn't get it to work
No matter what I tried it wouldn't appear on the network. I installed the updated software, but it doesn't seem to work with Windows 10.

Works Reliably / Configure it Manually / Don't Use the Software CD
I set up this print server to work with a Brother HL-2240 printer. Although my model is not in the list of compatible printers, the print server has worked reliably for me.
First, connect everything up as follows.
Printer -> (USB cable) -> (Print Server) -> (wired network cable) -> Router
The print server will request a dynamic IP address from the DHCP server within your router. For reliable printing to this print server, it is best to configure your router to always provide the same dynamic IP address to the print server. This is done by creating an address reservation in the DHCP settings of your router. Each router model and manufacturer will have its own way of doing this, but the procedure is generally similar. Consult your router's user manual to determine the exact steps.
Log into your router and look for a list of devices that have requested an IP address. Within that list, you should see a device with a "MAC" that begins with 803F5D (it may be listed as 80:3F:5D or 80-3F-5D in your router). This is the print server. For the next step, write down the print server's full 12-character MAC as well as the IP address it was assigned by your router. Now, create an Address Reservation in the DHCP settings, which tells the router to always assign that same IP address to that same MAC. (If your web interface provides a box for specifying the device name or description, you can use something generic like "printer" or whatever you like.) You will probably need to click a "Save" or "Apply" button in the router web page to save your change. Next, unplug the print server's power plug. Wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Wait a minute, then refresh the DHCP settings web page on your router to confirm that the print server is listed and has the same IP address.
I should point out that this print server provides 2 different protocols that computers can use to print to it -- Bonjour and LPR. I have found Bonjour to be unreliable for me. Therefore, I have opted to use LPR, which works best when the print server is assigned a reserved IP address.
It is assumed that you previously used this printer as a local USB printer, attached directly to your computer. If so, your computer should already have the printer driver installed. If not, you may need to download and install the printer driver from the manufacturer's web site, before proceeding.
In Mac OS, add the printer using the LPR protocol.
1. Go into "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners".
2. At the bottom of the list of printers, click the "+" icon.
3. On the Add screen, click "IP".
4. In the "Address" field, enter the IP address of the print server. (This will be the DHCP reserved IP address you configured above.)
5. In the "Protocol" drop-down list, click "Line Printer Daemon LPD".
6. Change the "Name" field to something more descriptive of your printer (e.g. Brother HL-2240 LPR).
7. I left the Queue and Location fields empty.
8. In the "Use" drop-down list, select the driver for the printer attached to the print server. You will probably want to choose "Select Software", then select the manufacturer and model of printer attached to the print server, then click OK.
9. Finally, click the "Add" button.
To test the printer you have just added, select it in the list of Printers, click "Options & Supplies", choose the "Utility" tab, click "Print Test Page", then click "OK". If all went well, a test page should print.
Some additional tips and bits of information follow.
I did NOT install any software from the CD that came with the print server. The software is not required on MacOS.
The user manual that came bundled with the print server is pretty much useless. I think the manual tries to cover both this "USB LPR Print Server" (Monoprice #5342) and the "USB Server - 4 USB Devices" (Monoprice #5344), but it's mostly written for the latter (#5344). And so, the manual will probably confuse most people.
This print server makes only the printing function of a printer accessible over the network. If your printer has a built-in scanner, the scan function will NOT be accessible over the network.
The print server does NOT make your printer into a wireless printer. The print server must be physically connected into the back of your router with an Ethernet cable. However, computers that connect to your network over WiFi will be able to print to the printer over wifi.
This print server is tiny (2" x 2").
I keep my Brother HL-2240 turned on all the time, but it goes into a low-power sleep mode after about 10 minutes. I have NOT had any issues with the printer waking up from sleep mode for printing.
Some caveats:
I only send small print jobs to this print server (approximately 20 pages or less). I cannot say how well it performs with large print jobs (e.g. 100 pages).
Only one user accesses this print server at a given time. I have not tried to send multiple print jobs from multiple users at the same time.
