What is the stranding of this 12AWG wire?
A shopper
on Feb 26, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Do you mean number of strands in either red or black wires? I still have about 20' remaining so I cut a few inches and opened a red wire. I counted 60-65 copper wires. The black wire appears to have the same count.

Is it bad in any way to use 12 AWG speaker wire for short 6 to 9’ runs? Or is it better for short runs than other gauge wires, and if so, under what conditions? Thx!

BEST ANSWER: The lower the gauge (the thicker the wire) is best for ANY length cable run! Issues with long cable runs are caused because of resistance building up and therefore signal loss in the form of heat, believe it or not. The thicker the wire, the better (less resistance). I’m a retired professional soundman and rock guitar player with 60 years of experience.

can this be used to connect a 300 watt tube amp to cab?
A shopper
on Mar 10, 2026
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. 12AWG wire is recommended for 200–400 watts or more, especially for longer cable runs as long as you terminate it as a proper speaker cable and keep the run reasonable. I hope this helps.

Lovely & sensible speaker cable
Nice and beefy speaker wire, relaxed well off the roll with some heat gun treatment and over-undering. Easy to strip. Bit of a tight squeeze into lower-mid level amplifier (Kenwood) speaker outs, but will just make it in with a tight even twist on bare ends. Major audio fidelity improvement over 18 AWG car audio style consumer cable.

Expectations met
Installed it and seems to be working good. I didn't have wires previously so unable to compare audio purposes, but sounds good enough to me.
