BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
The grills can be removed by unscrewing them and the grills are interchangeable between this grille and the grille on the 1060s.

The grills are removable with a jewlers screwdriver and the foam is not glued in. I'm not sure mods are really necessary but these seem as easily moddable as the 1060s.

2.5mm connectors to the cans themselves. The connector to the source is 3.5 but obviously also comes with a 6.35mm.

Connections on the cups/cans are both 3.5mm. The stock cable is ends in 2x3.5mm TRS connections to go into the Cans. I have used a Balanced cable that terminates into 2x3.5mm TS connections and they work flawlessly on these as well.
I am not sure if I am doing the headset a disservice by using this cable but it sure as heck sounds incredible and I totally notice an improvement over the stock cable in terms of staging, imaging and depth.

An adventure in sound
This is number 2. I live in a third world country. The first set fell apart at the right headphone jack socket and broke a wire. I don't remember seeing a warranty. Shipping is costly from here and there are no street addresses. I attempted a repair because I liked them and suspended that to buy a second pair.
After testing, they are adequate and perform as the first set.
Buying a second repair should say something.

Too big & too heavy to wear for long.
Well made & sounds very good but?
These headphones are simply TOO BIG and TOO HEAVY to be pleasant to use. Although I got a very good sale price, I am now looking for a good sounding AND comfortable headphone as well.

10/10 satisfaction
I definitely recommend this headphone. I enjoy the detail and the natural timber that can deliver. Also does a fantastic job with the live performances records, either the Tchaikovsky's 1821 overture or the Nirvana and Cafe Tacuba Unplugged.

Disappointed.
Compared against a Philips X1 and Letshuoer S12 planar IEMs:
Mid-range was terrible: veiled and muffled. Sounded like I was in a tunnel, and claustrophobic. But very upfront, with no distance from me, and no height. The X1 and S12 presented notes with much more space front to back and top to bottom.
The M1070 didn't have much sub-bass either. And it didn't respond well to EQing, not like the S12 can. When boosted, the S12 can turn thunderous, the M1070 turns muddy.
The X1 and S12 were both much better in the technicalities, especially the S12. Much more energetic and bigger soundstage.
All this was disappointing when considering the reviews. I also bought the M1060 and found it to have the same bad characteristics. So it's doubtful that I received two bad units...
Tried the velour pads and they didn't make hardly a difference.

A large, heavy phone with a heart of gold
I wanted to give the M1070's a five star rating, based on their excellent clarity, and stunning dynamic range - but they're a bit too big, too heavy, and too fussy to be a good idea for many folks.
Pair them with an underpowered, single-ended system and they'll give you a tonally correct, but lifeless rendition - insipid in, insipid out - the sound of your headphones sneering at you...
OTOH, give them sufficient balanced power (one or more Watts will do), and they'll strut, sing, dance, and damn near offer to do the dishes.
The M1070's party piece is that they give you the slam, impact, and 'aliveness' of great planars with the coherency and soundstage of the best dynamic headphones - consider them HD650's with a mild Death Metal fixation, or Grado SR125's that grew up, dumped the Punk, majored in Ethnomusicology, and now want to form an avant jazz band.
So these aren't for many people - but if you've enough balanced power and a strong desire to craw into your music and pull the line shut behind you - the M1070's will cheerfully take you there.

Ce casque est un must...
Ce Monolith 1070 a des basses magnifiquement présentes et nuancées, des médiums très détaillés et des aigus splendides. Il a une belle scène sonore large et aérée, le timbre est juste, en fait la qualité du son est incroyable.

An accurate headphone without the exaggerated bass of many. The bass is present and deep, and quite tight. Vocals come across particularly well, maybe male vocals a little better than female. Piano seems to have a slight timbre deficiency, otherwise massed orchestras sound quite good, with pretty good instrument resolution. I do notice that the very top high frequencies seem a bit shy, making cymbals and bells and snares lack a bit of shimmer.
These are very listenable, without peaks or ringing or distortion.
I liked the clamp force. I don't move around much when i listen to music. The weight is present, but it didn't bother me for sessions lasting over 2 hours.
I mostly listen to large classical works like Carl Nielsen's 4th Symphony, female vocal jazz, and female vocal pop through a good streaming service.

Incredible bargain
I got the M1070 shipped to me by mistake when I had ordered a M1570 but that gave me a chance to compare them .
If you don't mind the weight the M1570 is the superior headphone but like all things it's a matter of percentages...
The M1070 is 80% as good as The M1570 in sound but much lighter.
If I had never heard the M1570 I would absolutely have kept the M1070 which completely outclassed my other Planar's like my Sundara or HE400 and HE4XX .
In order to get better sound than either Monolith would take triple the investment and not have the 5 year warranty that Monoprice offers .
The complaining about the lack of clamp just hasn't been an issue for me
