I made a wooden top that is 57 inches wide and 33 inches deep. Would this frame provide sufficient support for this size?

BEST ANSWER: My custom top was 6ft x 24" and zero support issues - super stable - 100% no rocking at all. I don't think you'd have much difference adding to 33" width. I do like having the longer length which allows for two computers, a monitor arm and keyboards, etc. I have tons of space and really like this setup.

My wooden top is 37 x 65 inches, and I covered that with a piece of glass. A laptop, monitor, keyboard and associated books are on the desk along with miscellaneous other things. I'm sure you're good!
But really, monoprice should have some spec available.

Easily without any problems. My current top is 59" x 30" x 1" and it's flawless. If I had more space in my room I will upgrade to a 72" x 34" and I'm confident that would be easy as well.

can you attached a drawer to the desk?

BEST ANSWER: Probably not. The structural framing runs the width of the desk and is only about 5" from the front of the desk. However, there are lots of drawer options on wheels or not on wheels that will fit underneath the desk.

Not easily. If you need drawers it would be better to get a freestanding drawer unit. You can go with a nice Monoprice unit like I reference below, or the cheap plastic drawer unit route.

It does not come with a tabletop; it is grayed out to show the approximate proportions of a tabletop you would add to it.. This item is sold as the frame and motors only. They have a few options you can add to your order, or you can attach your own bought elsewhere; we had one from Ikea that has worked out quite nicely.

Where does the cable run from the control box to the other leg? Does it run through the center suports or is it exposed?
Frank T
on Aug 17, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The control box (the thing that you press to lower/raise the desk) has a single cable that runs to the control unit (mounted under the desk and controls both leg motors). There are two cables out of the control unit for the legs (one for each leg). Additionally there is a power cable to the control unit. None of those cables are internal. I used Velcro ties to secure all the cables and the installation looks very clean.
I hope this helps.

The cable is exposed. Both leg modules have a short cable coming out of them. One plugs directly into the control box while the other has an extension cable plugging into the control box/short cable.

It's exposed and sort of just hangs down a little. You'll have to zip tie it or manually install a net or something to hide it and hold it close to the bottom of the desk.

You're talking about the cable that ggoes from the control box under the center of the desk and goes to the furthest leg and not the one from the control panel you use to adjust it, right?
All of three cords hang down. The control box can't be centered, it can only be towards one side (it's on the right in the pictures). From there one cord goes all the way to the opposite leg without any support, it just plugs in and hangs down.
The control panel is the second cord that plugs into the box. It also hangs down. The cord is really long and you can run it and mount the panel pretty much anywhere you want.
Last is the power cord. Also plugs into the box and hangs down.

The cable runs between the center supports, and can easily be coiled up and tied to the supports. The cable becomes well hidden if done properly.

Does the Workstream have a full size PC Tower Mount accessory? I would like to be able to Mount my PC Tower underneath so it will lower and raise with the desk.
kenneth m
on Jan 11, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Doable, but depends on the width of the table top and the orientation of your undermount PC.
The cross beam is about 7-8 inches wide and about 1 - 1.5 inches high. So the undermount will need to either have some clearance on top to mount from front to back as most pictures shown online across the beam, or be limited to mount the PC in parallel to the beam with very limited space to rotate the PC. Also, in the later case, with beam in the middle, there are really not a lot space left on either side of the beam to mount when table top width is less than 30 inches. Do your math before you buy.

This is the stand only. When you add the top you can buy such an accessory and add it. Search for "under desk tower mount" on a popular shopping site.
Build the top a size you like (mine is 34x72) and position the top (when you mount it on the stand) in a way that allows you to put the mount accessory under your desk top in the place you want it to be.

I am putting the desk in the center of a room with an outlet on the floor. Is there enough power cord to reach the ground with enough slack to raise? Would the excess cord just be on the ground when it is down?
A shopper
on Jul 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the cable that is supplied is an 8' cable. Plenty long enough to reach the ground. The way I cabled up my desk was to use a plug strip that I mounted to the bottom of the desk where everything plugs into it. Then I just have one cable going to the outlet. This keeps it nice and clean.

Have you tried to bring it all the way down as far as it goes to see if it will reset to be even. You’ll know it even out if the side that is higher keeps going for Another second or so after the lower side bottoms out.

so this is just a frame? where are the desktops?
A shopper
on May 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, you are correct, this item is just for the frame. It can be used with various desktops, we have several options that would work although the mounting points may not be exact for this model and would need pilot holes drilled for best fit. Table top product#: 21601, 21602, 21603, 21604, 21605, 21606, 33085, 33086, 30912, 30913, 30914. Hope this helps. Thanks.

What is the difference of this desk and "Product # 15722 / Workstream by Monoprice Sit-Stand Dual-Motor Height Adjustable Table Desk Frame, Electric, Black"?
Sherman P
on Jun 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this desk is a bit easier to assemble since the legs ship attached and folded so aligning and bolting them on is easier. The power supply is mounted already too. This desk also has higher specs like the following: 265 lb load (vs. 175 lbs), wider maximum desk frame width of 74" (vs. 67"), taller maximum height of 50" (vs. 47"). It is a heavier desk, shipping weight is 85 lbs (vs. 76 lbs). Finally, the control panels are slightly different, same basic functions but this new desk allows for some minor adjustments for limiting the height adjustment range to prevent it from going too low or too high. Hope this helps, thanks for checking.

It appears that this desk has an internal leaf to accommodate the variation in width. What is the dimension of the step off between the leaf and the two fixed surfaces? Is a picture available of the extended width?
Steven B
on Jun 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, the pictures on the product page show the desk frame partially extended and therefore showing the two inner bars in the middle of the leg structures. At the narrowest setting of 42.1" wide, those inner bars will be completely inside the frame structure. When exposed, the step off is 8mm from the bottom and 2.5mm from the top, this is because the set screws tighten from the bottom and therefore push the bars upwards. These bars mainly provide rigidity for the desk frame structure and do not have attachment points for desk mounting. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. How is the desk top attached, especially if it is glass or mineral?
Hi, the desk frame comes with screws that work with the most common desktop materials like wood, particle board, and MDF. For glass, metal standoffs that could be attached to the desktop with industrial adhesives and then screwed to the frame are probably best, but glass top manufacturers or installers would be in a better position to recommend specific hardware. For mineral, attaching to a wood base with industrial adhesives and then using screws on the wood might work best, but again, best to consult with manufacturers or installers of that material. Just make sure to stay within the weight rating of the desk frame and avoid excessive unsupported overhangs for long term durability of your desktop. Thanks.

Does this desk have wire management for computer cables?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the desk frame itself does not come with wire management accessories for computer cables. We do have several products that are designed to organize cables on desks that would work well with a sit-stand setup. You could consider the following products for desks: 24466, 30709, 33818, 33815. Thanks for checking.

I plan to use my own top with this fold-out base. Can you provide specs for maximum and minimum desktop size (width, depth)? The other dual-motor base (15722) shows a maximum width of 67 inches for the base, but 87 inches for the top. Is the desktop of this fold-out model constrained to the dimensions of the base, or does it allow larger tops than the other dual motor base?

Monoprice Height Adjustable Dual Motor Easy Assembly Fold-Out Sit-Stand Desk Frame
Monoprice Sit-Stand Dual-Motor Height Adjustable Table Desk Frame, Electric, Black
BEST ANSWER: Hi, tops with larger dimensions than the base are OK. The maximum dimensions would actually depend on the desktop material you plan to use and how much overhang the top manufacturer might recommend. The recommendations for the 15722 base just tries to limit the unsupported overhang to 10" max. If using 1" engineered wood, up to 6" overhang would be best, longer is possible but it would be recommended to avoid putting excessive loads on the unsupported parts of the desk to ensure long term durability of the top. Thanks for checking.

Does this desk wobble at maximum height ?
A shopper
on Jul 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this desk is our most stable and robust dual motor / dual leg desk frame at the moment. It is stable for typical office work like with using a mouse and keyboard, writing, etc. Having said that, shaking the desk intentionally could produce a bit more wobble at maximum height compared to lower settings. Hope this helps.

Could the center bars (the smaller floating ones) used to "Expand" the legs for the wider lengths be removed? And if removed and the legs are all attached on all points (total of 6 screws per leg), would it really affect the stability that much (assuming a top that is 1.25-1.5" thick)?
Frank T
on Aug 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Hi. I'm looking at mine, and I don't think removing these bars would work well. The weight of the structure makes an upside down U, so you'd lose the connection between the 2 legs. If you're saying that the top would take on the stress of the load, I wouldn't want to put any load at the center of the top. There are little bumpers under the left and right sections where the smaller bars slide into that gives support to the top, keeping it from bowing down. So that takes all of the weight off of the top, and carries it down the legs. Hope that helps.

Extremely adjustable
Pro:
* Goes low enough to be at an appropriate typing height without need for a keyboard tray.
* Width is adjustable to my table top. Extremely important for me, since I have a "hollow core" top, which means only the outer 8" are solid / structural.
Con:
* Metal frame sticks down by as much as 2.25" making it hard to find a pedestal cabinet that fits underneath when it's at minimum height (22" max cabinet height)

Reliable product for my mass-produced desk design
Phenomenal quality. I include these with a product that I designed at work. I chose this model because I trust that it won't go out of production and the sizing will be consistent. The excellent quality and premium user experience was a nice bonus. The desk I sell is rather pricy so it would have been a tough pill to swallow if the expensive desk had a cheap-feeling adjustable frame.

Worked well at first. After a couple of months it stopped moving and had an error code that wasn't in the manual. I couldn't figure it out on my own, so I reached out to customer support and got no response.

Awesome desk at a good price
I added this to our home office after working more than 6 months from our home office because of the 2020 pandemic. It's an awesome desk I'd miss a lot if I did not have it. I had an old Office Depot desk I cannibalized the top from adding a sheet of oak veneer to that fit perfectly on the frame. The price is right, it's well made, and it works really really well. The only small nuisance I've noticed is the touch-sensitive controls don't always come out of lock-out mode when you go to raise or lower the unit. I've found that swiping my left index finger from left to right across the series of buttons wakes it and then it works fine. I've also noticed the unit seems to be leaking clear hydronic fluid that collects at the junction between the desktop vertical supports and the perpendicular floor supports. I continue to wipe it up with a paper towel. I'd worry more about it if the desk showed some issue with operation but so far it works perfectly. For the life of me I can't tell were it is seeping from. It's not coming down the legs and I can't find a single hole in the areas on both sides where the fluid could be coming from. Again, in that I've seen no functional issues, I've written it off to some sort of operational overflow that is normal over time.
All that being said it's a great desk and I'd recommend it.

Not too bad. Small nuisances.
Built a custom pine wood top for it, 72? long x 33? deep and attached using wood inserts. Dual motor doesn?t appear to be struggling. Moves quickly enough for me. One of the quietest I?ve heard I will say.
The only negative I will say that I have experienced a weird deal on the controller people have mentioned that it does do weird things like stop moving. Or the desk moves, stops and starts again on it?s own when a button is touched. I did discover that when I re-seated the cable to from the controller it went back to working just fine. Too soon to say whether or not this is something that will get worse or it got bumped. No weird sounds or anything yet. Time will tell.
I will investigate options if it continues to be an issue. Maybe try to keep the cable from drooping from the plug, could be that over time it will loosen up?Just thought you all would like to know.

Solid legs but terrible electronics.
I loved the standing desk legs, but after only 6 months, I get constant error messages that require a physical unplug of the desk to recover from. I suspect it's from cheap electronics in the hydraulics controller. There's zero information on the internet though about it.
