Would two of the 12 inch models be good for behind the screen placement ?
A shopper
on Mar 28, 2020
I have single 12" model mounted vertically behind a flat panel display in my entertainment cabinet and it is working great, I suspect two being placed behind a large screen would function well. Depending on the tension of your screen, I would play around with the placement of the speakers and the direction the port faces to make sure it does not ripple or vibrate your screen at higher volume.

Does this tend to rattle and shake the walls if wall mounted?
Yang Z
on Jun 28, 2022
BEST ANSWER: The wall itself should not shake any more than if you had set the subwoofer next to it.
If not mounted securely, it's possible that the brackets could rattle. However, the brackets are designed so that they can be slid onto mounting screws (they have keyholes for the screws) before actually hanging the speaker, so you can tighten down the screws securely. Once the brackets are solidly in place, you then hang the speaker on the bracket; the brackets have a rubber covering at each of the four places where they mate with the speaker, which should prevent any rattling at those contact points.
Mounted correctly, I would not expect any problem with rattling noises caused by the mount itself, nor any vibrations that would not have occurred otherwise.

I didn't mount mine to the wall, but the connection from the mounting bracket to the sub is padded. I don't imagine your walls will shake. Of course if there is enough umph in that 12" that if you run it loud enough it'll shake the whole house no matter where you put it.

Where exactly would 80Hz be on the dial for the low-pass filter? I wish subwoofers had markings to make things a little easier. And tactile.
Gary P
on Feb 7, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The more expensive subwoofers (SW) do. But this is an entry level SW. So in this case, you'll just have to interpolate the values by dividing the markings from minimum to maximum which should be somewhere just below the halfway point. You should also keep in mind that for the majority of audio systems, the receiver takes over the low/high pass filtering duty, which is much more precise and accurate. Another reason why SW don't bother with anything beyond the most rudimentary markings. Some people just tune by ear.

It only has RCA and bare speaker wire inputs. If your wireless kit has a receiver that outputs to either of those, but this does not have a wireless receiver built in.

Has anyone tried this under or behind the listening spot, as an addition in a system with existing front-firing subs?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Typically added sub reinforcement is a plus. To compete with live sub sound requires lots of watts, even
in small venues. One advantage is smaller subs (10 and 12 inch subwoofers) can have tighter low cycle

Your only option is the line level inputs (spring terminals) on the sub. You’d have to run lines from one pair of speaker channels to the subwoofer, as there’s no rca outputs on the 6 zone. They can be run in parallel without mucking anything up as the line level inputs are super high impedance. So, plumb speaker wire either from the amp to the speakers to the sub, or the amp to the sub to the speakers through the outputs on the sub, or from the amp to the sub and speakers on different branches.

BEST ANSWER: I've used this sub in two different setting. First with a Harmon Kardon 100w/ch receiver in a simple stereo setup where the right and left channel went from the receiver, passed through the sub, then on to 8" bookshelf speakers. Second, an Onkyo receiver 100w/ channel in a surround sound setup. In that setup the receiver send just the sub signal the the slim 12 and terminates there. In both settings it's worked well and sounded good. The sound is much better when the sub is vertical and away from the wall. Our first placement was behind the stereo cabinet and very close to the wall. The sound suffered.

The slim sub line will work with any speaker set up. What tower, bookshelf or whatever you have to pair the sub with isn't relevant to "working" with. Now, how will it sound paired with x speaker, that's a different conversation. I have it paired with two Klipsch R600M v2s and it adds the punch i need quite well. It's not a sub that will rattle your neighbors windows but of you have speakers that need a little help on the low end AND want to hide your sub then this is a great option.

Which position of the auto on off switch is auto on?
A shopper
on Jun 21, 2021
BEST ANSWER: On the speaker I purchased, this switch had clearly labeled "on" and "off" positions. When in the "on" position, the speaker's amplifier is active only when a signal is detected (i.e. "auto on").
Your speaker's switch should be labeled similarly and if it's not, there's no guarantee that the switch is mounted in the same way as others that are labeled. But the "on" position on the speaker I have is the position towards the outside edge of the cabinet, while the "off" position is towards the inside/middle of the cabinet.

Reveals sounds I had not noticed before
This sub revealed sounds I had not noticed before in my music. My old sud did not go as low. It has a biiger foootprint on the floor than I imagined, and the spring terminals for the speaker level inputs and outputs are really small, so you need to be carefull connecting them, or they could break. The speaker pin plugs Monoprice sells did not fit in them. Other than that, it is good.

Very good, not excellent.
The design is what it is, flat for convenience and to be hidden out of the way, which is what I used it for. It adds a bit of punch to my low wattage tube amp (also monoprice) and Klipsch 600m v2 spearkers. I could live without this sub but it does add texture and quality on bass heavy audio. Recommended with reasonable expectations.

Worth the money.
Almost two years old and very happy with it. I use it on my outside screened porch under a couch and it adds enough bass to make it worth the while. Haven't had any issues with it being outside year round (Ohio) but it's very weel covered by the couch and rain/moisture isn't an issue.

Good sound, needs better usability and QA
When setting this up with my AVR, one of the first things I needed to do for the AVR to do its level-setting analysis (Audyssey) was adjust the speaker volume knob while a test tone is playing. But of course the knob is on the bottom of the unit where it's not accessible, and lifting the unit to gain access changes the perceived volume level (granted, very slightly), making it harder to adjust the volume accurately.
The RCA jack for the signal input is in the same location, which means the cable immediately has to do a sharp 90 degree turn, to run parallel with the floor (or whatever surface this speaker gets set or mounted on). The jack also seems a tiny bit undersized, so the cable fits loosely (the cable itself fits fine on other RCA jacks).
Finally, the first speaker I received was DOA. Fortunately, Monoprice's return process is convenient and easy, so I was able to receive my replacement reasonably quickly. Still, obviously it'd be nicer to not have to go through that at all.
All that said, the subwoofer does perform as advertised. I set the crossover to the max frequency (150 Hz) and let the AVR decide where to actually balance this speaker with the others. The result seems perfect to me. The speaker fills in the bass just right, without being overbearing. And the form factor is great for my needs, a relatively small room for watching TV, with furniture crowded in and not much space left for a large speaker. For now it's on the floor, but I may well take advantage of the wall-mounting option (though, unfortunately, the wall mount brackets only support a horizontal "landscape" orientation...a vertical position would work better in my case, to provide better clearance for other furniture nearby).
I would love to see at least the volume control moved to a more accessible location, if not an improvement to the input jack to allow the cable to fit more securely and with less strain on the cable. But once everything's set up, this speaker has worked fabulously.

A lesson in Awesomeness!!
So I purchased this to replace a pretty basic sub to complement my tv sound bar. I currently have 2 of the 13THX ultra subs for movie watching but I don?t always want to watch with everything on, or my kids will watch something and they want to just be able to run it on and go.
Truthfully the pictures don?t do this unit justice. I ordered the 12in on and it is much larger than I was expecting? but that?s not a bad thing. The finish is kind of an orange peel textured surface that makes it look really clean and neat.
I hooked this up using a ?y? splitter to both inputs, turned the crossover to about 80 and the volume most of the way up. Then I adjusted the levels in my tv. I was blown away by the output and thunderous sound this produced.. it almost felt like my larger subs were up an running.
Playing demos like ?Dune?and ?Ready player one? you can hear where the super lows roll off below 20Hz unlike the 13THX ultras that get down to 10hz without batting an eye.
This really is a killer sounding sub at an amazing price.
Tuck it up under your couch you?ll never see it but boy! You?ll feel it !

Great Subwoofer that fits *almost* anywhere
For the price and the form factor, there is nothing out there that beats this.

do it! do it! do it!
i ordered this as a test to see if the flat design would be as powerful and discreet as advertised. if it was a dub, i was ready to ship it back for a traditional box.
BUT it did NOT disappoint! in fact, it exceed my expectations by a stretch.
if fits perfectly underneath my sofa and my 2.1 system is now perfectly rounded and complete. i?m an audio engineer by trade and if i know anything, it?s once you live with a subwoofer, you?ll never go without it.
it?s like living in an apartment with a dishwasher or a washer dryer?there?s just no going back once you get to that new level.
i?m buying another for the studio and wall-mounting it to the surface under my desk. perfect item, perfect price. worth waaaaayyyy more than what i paid. perfect.

good enough for my purposes; price drop
Photo rotated by Monoprice website for some reason; it is upright on edge to fit in my bookcase - and to have access to the controls. It is much bigger than I was expecting, about 8" thick, but 18" x 30". It weighs about 40#.
I am not an audiophile.
Being used in a small music room, 12x14 with 10' ceiling, so my needs were modest. Adds nice depth to the bass using about 60 Hz crossover (analog dial from 50 Hz - 150Hz) and gain at about 75% (also analog), using speaker wire connection (due to the my 1980's primary speakers)
Definite upgrade from my prior low cost subwoofer from a compact system from the 90's. Compared with Dis Is Da Drum album (Herbie Hancock), esp "Call it 95". Night and day.
Bummer: several days after my purchase, price dropped $30 :-(
