What are the maximum focus distances, for zoomed and unzoomed settings? I'd like to be able to zoom in on my driveway (about 80 ft), and zoom in on drivers face, to fill the screen and be sharp enough for easy recognition. Unzoomed, to view entire yard. (Camera would be mounted on windowsill indoors.)

feels like you want a 4k camera, based on your usage scenario. this is a 1080 camera, you can zoom into a whiteboard from like 30’ away and clearly read like 2” characters written on the whiteboard.

Does this have automatic pan where it can detect who is talking and pan to the talker? Preferably by mouth movement because it will be used in a round table conference with mics connected to a sound system, meaning audio is outputted through speakers.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the camera should be easy to install and use with most modern computers. Make sure to use the included USB cable and, if using standard USB ports, use both plugs so the camera will be able to get enough power from the USB ports.
Modern computer operating systems should also recognize and have built-in drivers for the camera as well, but one thing to check is that some newer operating systems may have default security settings or may require permissions for apps to access the camera. There should be an option to allow the computer to use the camera, and for apps to switch to it if there is a built-in camera on your laptop.

Are you plugging both of the USB-A connectors into your laptop? If not, then (i) you need to connect both because the camera needs more power then just one USB port can supply; or (ii) you need to purchase and connect the optional power adapter.
If you have both connectors plugged into your laptop, then your laptop should immediately recognize the camera and install the necessary drivers when you power up the camera -- the light on the front will turn from amber to blue when it powers up. You turn on the camera with the remote control.
If you have both USB connectors plugged in and the computer doesn't recognize the camera after you power it up, then the camera is probably defective and should be exchanged.

Does this camera support UVC PTZ control? Zoom (the conferencing software) now supports such cameras and can allow you to give a remote user control of the camera, including being able to pan and zoom. Several more expensive PTZ cameras now work with Zoom on this. I wonder if this one does? To test, plug it in, and have a remote user do "request camera control." Give them control and see what they can do...

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the hardware is capable of providing this function, but you need to use it with software or conferencing apps that have this feature. Regular Skype does not have this ability, but there are camera control or web conferencing apps that may enable this function, like Zoom for example. This PTZ camera itself does not ship with "far-end" camera control software, so while the hardware is capable, we mainly talk about using the IR Remote to control the PTZ function from within the meeting room. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Is it possible to create a camera position preset so when the camera is off it looks away for privacy and when it's on, the camera repositions to a set camera orientation?
A shopper
on Apr 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, it is possible and there are a couple of ways to do it.
1. If the camera is turned off using the remote control, it automatically goes back to the home position, pointed to front and center. Therefore it would be possible to mount the camera in a way that its home position looks away. When the camera is powered back on using the remote, it will reboot and then go back to the previously set position before it was turned off.
2. Alternatively, if the USB cable is unplugged directly, the camera will stay in the current position it is in. This means you could point it away right before unplugging. When it is plugged back in, it will return to the "POS Comeback" position which is the position that was used prior to pointing away and unplugging (POS Comeback is only set after the camera has been in the same position for at least 30 seconds, or more by changing menu settings).
I hope this helps. Thanks for checking.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, this camera only has a USB connection so it may not work directly with most TVs. But it easily connects to a computer with a USB port. This camera will show up like a regular webcam, no specific software is needed and it can be used with web-conferencing apps or online services, with free/pre-loaded camera apps, and other video camera apps. You may want to get software that displays video with no on screen buttons or menus. PTZ position is controlled by the IR remote control, but this is where you may also want to consider additional software to control the PTZ camera through the computer. There are PTZ controller apps that you could try before purchase, in quick tests controls worked with Sony presets. Thanks for checking.

Try pressing "1" to see if you can put the remote in the correct channel that is assigned to the camera. FYI the camera channel assignment can be changed on the on screen menu. Hope this helps.

What is the field of view? How wide angle is it?
Joel S
on Aug 20, 2020
For USB meeting/conferencing cameras, the max we have right now is 105 degrees for Product 35519.
Ultra wide angles aren't typically spec'd for PTZ conferencing cameras because of the distortion and typically lower image quality, and since the cameras are capable of panning. The ultra wide angles are usually more common for smaller webcams or for security cameras. We have some IP/Network PTZ security cameras with 106 degree field of views, like products 30562, 38526, but setup and application might be very different.

BEST ANSWER: The short answer is no, not out of the box. I haven't been able to program ours, but the quality isn't as good as my iPhone XS. We have really poor lightning in the space we are using at this time, lots of florescent lights, which get white-washed with the PTZ camera. My iPhone shoots a much crisper, richer color. I've continued to shoot with both and mix the better option for our church's worship service.

Can motor mechanism be moved by hand when camera is powered on? Are there any negative consequences to doing this?
A shopper
on Dec 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi, it is possible with care and by doing it slowly, but it is not ideal to rely on manually moving the camera. If you have to move it manually, it's probably best to power down the camera first and still do it gently.
The risk is possibly disrupting alignment or with damaging internal components if there is resistance or if excessive force is applied, or if the camera is adjusted beyond the limits of its range of movement.

BEST ANSWER: It comes with an L-shaped mounting bracket that looks pretty sturdy. I haven't used it, though.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, this PTZ camera has a standard USB connection. Out of the box, this product will not work with most tablets, including your specific model.
However it is possible to make this camera work with a tablet by using a USB adapter to connect the camera and by using an app to connect this camera as a webcam.

Where do I get the USB to RS232 driver mentioned on page 19 of the manual? It just says to download it from the "official website". I bought this camera to test VISCA serial over USB. Searching on https://www.monoprice.com/home/driverdownload?s_keyword=35520 only returns the manual.

Nice VISCA compliant webcam-quality camera
I was looking for a cheap camera that supported the VISCA protocol for testing some software, and it's fully compliant with the core pan/tilt/zoom/focus and preset recall/set commands.
The documentation is a bit confusing in places - it took some searching to figure out how to set the camera protocol, for example, and it mentions driver downloads from "the official website" that doesn't exist (not that you need them) - and the "Special Preset" table on page 15 is completely wrong.
The camera itself is basic webcam quality; if you're thinking this is an alternative to the $1500+ PTZ cams that can zoom in to a closeup across a large space, it's not. But it works fine with OBS and PTZ control apps.

need better manual to be able to get the most from the camrea
camera works fine from usb cable. the usb cable with the right angle connector blocks the IR sensor.
would like to use the rs485 port but the manual sucks as well as support.
so if you just want a camera and to use simple interfaces this works
else need decent manual

Nice Unit
Works well. Got it to use for combination in-person/virtual meetings, and really ahs improved the ability of those on-line to see those in the room.

Excellent webcam
I wanted to get a more versatile and higher quality webcam than the more commonly available models, and despite this one being called a "conference camera," it looked like it had the good specs I was looking for. It was very easy to install -- there are a lot of tweaks possible, but it worked perfectly as soon as I hooked it up. Good resolution, good auto focus, the zoom range is all I'd even need, and the color rendition is excellent. This camera is a winner!
