Are the grilles metal?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Yes, grills are metal. I tried to paint mine and they are difficult to paint without filling the holes or the very thin foam backing behind them. Not an issue if you want to keep them white.

Yes they are metal. If you do plan on painting them, I would recommend spray painting them as regular paint will fill the holes.

Can I use this as my center channel in conjunction with the Monoprice Alpha Carbon Angled Speakers as my Left and Right channels? My thought process being, the angle of all of the speakers can be pointed toward the listening area as all of these will be installed in-ceiling. I feel this speaker may help strike a great balance with dialogue in the Center while the Left and Right Angled Alphas handle the majority of everything else.

I'm wanting to get started on the installation before the speakers arrive. For anyone who has installed these, do I need to cut a 10.43" circular hole in the drywall for an 8" speaker like it says in the spec? That seems overly large...

do I need speaker enclosures if I'm hanging these from the ceiling? If so, what would you recommend?
A shopper
on Oct 19, 2022
BEST ANSWER: These are flush mount speakers intended to be mounted into holes in the ceiling. I Fabricated speaker enclosures for the rear of the speakers inside the ceiling to protect them from insulation and to enhance the acoustics. If you are not mounting them in the ceiling, but rather suspending them beneath the ceiling line, then you would definitely need enclosures. There are a number of suitable enclosures available for purchase, however I did not use them so I cannot make a recommendation of which would work best for your application.

Is this amplifier M8250x too much for the following 7.1.4 setup using only Monoprice equipment? Not at all. I use this amp to drive Goldenear SuperCinema X sound bar for front 3 and SuperSat 3s for surround and Atmos. It is PERFECT. It's clean and powerful with great dynamic range. It VANISHES in the background. But if you want to know output you can expect, search for "Peak SPL Calculator" and input the data. It will give you a good representation of what sound pressure level you'll achieve with this amp and those speakers.

Afraid I don't have any experience with those speakers but the amp definitely puts out (mine at least) the full advertised power. It may even be a bit conservative. I have it running front wide and 6 heights (7x running the other 7 base layer). I can also say that it blends quite well with the 7x despite being a "class D"... and it's a LOT lighter LOL

Hi,
The speakers you selected are fine.
Personally I wouldn't mix speakers style, each has a slight difference in sound.
With a large glass doors you might be (most likely) get bounce of sound, normally a curtain helps a lot.
I hope this is of help to you,

I am building a 7.1 system in my basement, but don't have space for any wall speakers. I am thinking to install four of these angled to the best listening position and combine with the alpha center channel and the 8 inch alpha's without the angled drivers. Will that create a good sound, since all of the sound will be coming from the ceiling. except for the subwoofer?

BEST ANSWER: I used the 6.5 angled speakers for my L&R front channels and the standard 6.5 that have the pivoting tweeter for the Surround L&R speakers. Since the rear isn't as pivotal I feel these work great however if I was to do it over again I would use the angled driver for all speakers. Just to ensure my listening position could here them all very well at all times. If you tune your amp properly the sound will be great. Meaning, the right percentage of sound coming from the center, front and rear speakers for what your listening to/watching. They look great and sound great.

I bought these speakers for my new basement and they do sound great. I used the wall speakers for the rear channel though. having 4 ceiling speakers may sound well if positioned properly? but I am not an expert. perhaps having the rear channel (wall) speakers further forward and further out to the sides than the rear surround speakers? I am debating doing the same thing on a remodel I am later this spring. Good luck on your project.

I have a Monolith 7channel 200 watts per channel power amp. Could I use these speakers with this power amp or do you recommend I look to buy highly wattage speakers?

BEST ANSWER: I run these speakers off of a 7 channel Denon receiver which only puts out about 120 watts and they sound great. So that amp will be more than sufficient. You could get a better speaker, but you’ll have to buy Triads or something else at much higher price point.

You should be alright- it is very unlikely that your amp is actually sending that many watts to each channel consistently with that many channels driven as well (even though they market is as such).

Dear customer service,
I have a media room with 20'x15' and 14' height and planning to set up a 7.2.4 system with the in-wall/in-ceiling Monolith lines.
90% of the time will be used for movie watching, 10% for game/music listening
Id like to use THX-465IW (42829) x 3 for L/C/R and Alpha In-Ceiling Speakers 8in Carbon Fiber 2-Way with 15 degree Angled Drivers (34198) x4 for Atmos ceiling speakers.
What do you suggest for the surround/rear speakers?
Thank you very much.

For in-wall, check out the THX-275IW (42830) for surround/rear speakers. Same drivers as the 365 and 465, so they are timbre matched.

Hi! coincidently I'm an electronic engineer Yes, you can run in 12awg, because the 12awg conductor's area is higher, the opposite won't be recommended, for example, go to 16 which the area is smaller. I hope I could help you.

It's my understanding the Amber line is a slightly better line than the Alpha; I'm going between this 8" Alpha angled drivers (#34198) vs the 8" Amber (#24435) ones. Going into our first floor ceiling (so bedrooms above) for a family room with TV. I'm not super concerned with angles and atmos qualification etc, just want good sound to those on the couch and crank some tunes every once in a while without distortion. Thoughts on which is better for my application?

Thanks Jeremy; I should have mentioned. I have a speakerbar and subwoofer in the room as well to cover dialogue and the lows. Does Dave L from Monoprice have a rundown on the components of the Alphas vs the Ambers? The angle feature is nice but I'd rather have the better components...so if Dave says the components are virtually the same then that'll seal the deal for the Alphas angled for me.

I am building new construction. I realize these do need backer boxes, but surely they would sound better and transfer sound to other floors less if they had 3/4 inch thick MDF boxes behind them. Has anyone done this? What is the ideal sealed box volume for these ?

Great Atmos Speakers
I bought 2 sets of these for front and rear Atmos ceiling speakers to replace my prior in ceiling speakers. I just re-ran Dirac on my system to ensure everything was as dialed-in as possible, and I have to say that imaging was much improved from the old down-firing speakers. The angle built into these really helps. These are a great value and sound good. I use these along with the 365 model in-wall THX Monolith speakers for my bed layer. Very happy!

Quality Speaker
Arrived as promised. Very well packed, nothing damaged or bent. Installed the pair of speakers in less than 30 minutes. Cleaning up the sheetrock mess is always a chore. Magnetic grill is oversized so it covers any rough sheetrock cuts. Very clean installation. So far sound quality is very satisfactory for the price. High quality product, I'm very satisfied.

Average with much needed improvements.
Using these for ATOMS in a HT setup. For the price, they are ?good enough? for how I?m using them. Not a big fan of their x-over point and build quality (4 screws broke as I started tightening them and used 2? sheet rock screws to fix/replace all of them?also foam wasn?t stuck well) as its a little cheesy, but expected for the price. I have other brand in-wall and in-ceiling speakers that absolutely blow these away in every category, price included! You get what you pay for applies here. If you-Monoprice fix the X-over, give an actual 8? woofer (not 6.5?) and have better build quality, you could charge a little more and have a way better product, keeping customers like myself. This is a one and done for me with your speaker(s) line offerings.

These are a steal at this price - classic monoprice value
I recently installed the Alpha 15 degree ceiling speakers and they have been fantastic with music, movies, and television.
First, you need to understand that in-wall and in-ceiling speakers have inherent limitations compared to enclosed speakers - If you want a clean look, you're going to have to sacrifice some sound quality, regardless of brand.
Second, the biggest compromise of in-ceiling speakers, IMO, is the low frequencies which they simply cannot produce well. I use these in a setup with 2 subwoofers which readily solves the issue.
Third, these are outstanding quality, both in sound and the build. They are very solid, very well designed, and very well built. The installation process is fantastically easy - you'll spend far more time running wires than installing these.
