How do you set a static IP? You know, like every other IoT device ever made ever.

BEST ANSWER: I’ve been unable to do that. The Voxel seems to have a different MAC address every time it boots so I can’t even assign it an address in my router.

Some of the answers miss the point. Sure, I can assign an IP address to a MAC address on the router, the problem is that the Voxel issues a new MAC address EVERY time it reboots. HOWEVER, this is true for the wireless interface but NOT the Ethernet interface. So I gave up using wifi because it was eating up my IP address space and instead I connected it to my network by Ethernet. No more problems! Same MAC address every time it boots, and you can easily assign an IP address in your router.

I reserve the MAC Address in my router to a static IP. This way, every time I turn it on, it always has the same IP.

Well- not sure about the software settings - but you can do this on the router side - set an IP based on the MAC - give it a shot! Also the polar cloud connection seems to simplify some of the find my printer issues.

Are there any specific CAD programs I would need to use for this machine?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: You download Flashprint-MP., which is available on the same page as the User Manual. Flashprint can then import almost any file, including STL files, "slices it" and then saves it as a .gx file.. Flashprint also finds the printer on your network automatically and prints it. Why none of this is in the instruction manual is incomprehensible.

It comes with flashprint witch it is very good for the slicer. You can also use cura for a slicer but you have to save it as a .g file then transfer it to the printer. As far as designing stuff you can use tinkercad and fusion360 both are free. If you have access to autocad that will work also

No. But highly suggest not buying. We had one that worked for about 2 weeks. They replaced and the new one worked for about 3 weeks. We called customer support and followed instructions but it would never print correctly. Got about 5 nice pieces out of it.

No. You can use any program. You just have to convert the file to the format that works with this machine. There is a link on the page to the program that does those conversions, so you can download it for free.

No, I use Autodesk Inventor Professional a lot, but any program that can export to STL will work. You do need a slicer, but the printer has a pretty decent free one for download.

BEST ANSWER: You can use PETG, but be forewarned, the settings can be finicky, and you should be familiar with unclogging the nozzle (the instruction manual has the procedure and the printer does come with tools). I've had some frustrations, but when I get things working right I get some really good prints with the accuracy of PLA and the resilience of ABS.
You CANNOT use polycarbonate. That stuff has a melt range way in excess of what the extruder can handle (240 degrees C).

I took measurements of the spool that came with the Voxel I have: spool inner diameter (ID) = 20mm, spool outer diameter (OD) = 180mm, spool thickness = 49.5mm. The MP PLA+ 0.5kg spools that they sell are slightly too big to fit inside the Voxel (MP spool is ID=53mm, OD=199mm, thickness=40.3). I can confirm that the filament works fine, but like other people have said I'd prefer if I could get a spool that would fit inside with the cover closed.

It'd be really great if MP could sell some filament spools that actually fit inside this thing -- it is MUCH nicer to have the filament door closed (quieter operation, and I think it might even improve print quality, as the draw/retraction force is better aligned with the spool).

Good news! Monoprice has a line of filaments that will fit within this printer. Part number 34716 will fit, as well as the other filaments in that line.
Is it true that the MP .5 kg spools of PLA+ don’t fit? I’ve seen comments from other users that they do. It would be great to get the official word from Monoprice. I am close to pulling the trigger and ordering a Voxel printer, but I don’t want to do it if I’m going to be forced to use an external spool holder and print with the door open all the time.
The .5kg spools didn't fit for me. They're claiming the .7kg spools will fit, I'm going to order a couple to check it out but I'm actually not that hopeful. Plus the PLA that comes with the printer seems to have a slightly different formulation than the PLA or PLA+ from MP, and prints better. But the MP filament prints OK, regardless. Hopefully the SKU 34716 will fit inside as they claim.

how do I download the slicer?

BEST ANSWER: Do a google search for "flashprint download".
Follow a link to the website at flashforge dot com.
Once there, you want to look for "software", specifically the "flashprint" software and you can download it there.
I have it downloaded on both Mac and Windows and it works great with my Monoprice Voxel.

No it's designed to be printed straight on the bed plate. It's likely your print head is to close to the print bed. You can try adjusting the z offset in settings. You can findinstructions for tests online that involve using a piece of paper to determine print head height.

Kinda. To level (called calibrate on the menu) the nozzle comes down to the center of the build plate and then you are instructed to move it up or down, via a + or - button, until the nozzle just touches the build plate. I find it hard to see so I put a single sheet of paper underneath and calibrate it until I first begin to feel any drag at all when I move the paper. You don't need to have it as close as with the IIIP. That's it. No springs to tighten or loosen. Super simple and I find I only need to calibrate every 4 or 5 prints. A vast improvement.

I do not see the tips on the website. I dont want to purchase if i cannot get all of the needed products. Please advise.

There is a Linux version at the Flashforge Flashprint web site, only for deb-based systems (no rpm support). However, they apparently built the software with a circa 2002 Linux system, so there are problem installing it. You can fix the problem by updating one of the library files as follows:
dpkg-deb --raw-extract flashprint_x.y.x_amd64.deb flashprint
sed -i s,libusb-0.1,libusb-0.1-4, flashprint/DEBIAN/control
dpkg-deb --build flashprint flashprint_x.y.z~fixed_amd64.deb
You can then install the fixed deb file. I think they desperately need a real Linux developer.

Set up a free account on Polar3d then go into the settings on Polar3d and you will find a PIN number. Go to the Voxel and turn on WiFi then enter your email you used on Polar3d as the user name and the PIN you got from Polar3d. The printer then automatically connects to Polar3d and you will see your printer. When you start a print you can then turn on the camera in the Polar3d website and see it next to the print data. I haven't found Filament spools that fit the MP Voxel that are sold by Monoprice but there is a easy to print spool extender on Thingiverse that works perfectly with the Monoprice Filament spools.

What is the best recommended design software for the Monoprice Voxel? Or am I able to use any 3D design software?
A shopper
on Jan 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You can create STL files with most design software. I use OpenJScad or Sketchup. The printer uses a slicer program called FlashPrint to convert the STL file into instructions for the printer. You can also download STL files from sites like Thingiverse, slice them with Flashprint and print them. Flashprint is free. It is made by the manufacturer and works very well with the printer.

Monoprice provides software that interfaces with the printer and does the slicing. You can design a model separately, export it as an STL file, then import into this software. If your looking for good free design software check out Blender and Sketchup for Mac and Windows; also look into the 3D design software that comes with Windows 10, its free and versatile.

BEST ANSWER: It may be the calibration of the nozzle; I'd check that first. Is your model sticking to the build plate? I'e occasionally had to use blue tape on the plate to get the model to stick better on some models, and to be able to remove on others. Make sure you don't have any binding on the filament placement. I've been told that using an extender (For 1 kg spools) changes the pathway enough that the filament may bind.
I've had to return min once for repair(A wire broke on the x-axis motor) and twice for filament feed issues. I'd do all troubleshooting you can think of, then email tech support. They've been very helpful in facilitating repairs and returns. Oh, mine is in a Jr. High classroom and sees a LOT of printing traffic, so I'm not surprised I've had issues. (Your results may vary!)

If the nozzle is calibrated too high your filament could look beady as it comes out; is that what you mean by lumpy? Similarly, if the nozzle is calibrated too low, the filament could be stuck inside as there's no room to actually push the filament out. In this case, the printer would make really loud "THONK THONK" noises. In any case, I'd recommend recalibrating.

The closest printer is Flashforge Adventurer 3. I don't believe Cura supports Flashforge but if it does then that should work. If not flash forge comes with the device or free to download. I am actually fond of the programs simplicity.

If you download the newer version of Flashprint from Flashforge, the Linux version can run on a Chromebook in Crostini. However, that version won't connect via the network to the printer, so you'll have to transfer files with a USB drive.

BEST ANSWER: The printer is limited to a 150mm cube. You could split the print into multiple pieces and glue them together or attach them some creative way. I sometimes print a threaded section to screw long pieces together. There are saved presets in the software to print higher quality, but it takes a lot longer. Heating it carefully with a torch makes it smoother and shiny as well as shrinks the plastic a bit. I do that if my print is barely too big and I don't feel like reprinting. But maybe you could put it into any oven for a bit, I never tried that though.

I have this same Voxel 3D printer and it will certainly print larger than 50mm. I recently printed something around 3 1/2" tall (just under 90mm) and it printed just fine. You will want to download the MP FlashPrint Software provided at the bottom of the Monoprice MP Voxel 3D Printer webpage.

Decent Starter printer but a bit frustrating
A good starter printer, but touch screen is a bit of a dud. Very inaccurate touch pad and half the time it doesnt register a touch or registers a different command than you wanted to. My recommendation is not to use your finger, but use a pen with a small contact area - it still may take several jabs, but the chances of getting the wrong command activated is reduced. Prints are fine, tho sometimes printing without the base will cause the print to loose hold on the pad. Would be very nice if the printer could talk to other slicers like Cura.

dud
I received this printer as a gift this past January, I barely started to use it last month and for a whole week, I was able to print anything and everything. I switched 3 colors out and had no issues. By the third color, the machine would print out but my print was stringy or always lifted from the bed. I tried calibrating and even added a new bed mat to see if that was the issue but I haven't had any luck with it. Another issue is the USB, it sometimes won't catch a read unless I fiddle or hold it a certain way in order to print. I'm hoping I can resolve this issue if not I will have to purchase a new machine

Great FDM 3D Printer for any level of experience!! Definitely the best for the price range!!
So far, (I?ve had it for about a month) it has been an amazing printer. The interface is laid out in a way that is not only ideal, but also nicely designed. I do, however, have yet to see how this printer handles other filament brands of the same diameter, but I think that there don?t think there should be an issue (or I hope, at least.) This 3D printer makes a great printer overall, however, I have had a few issues with adhesion to the build plate, which is probably my fault for using the wrong type of base structure for adhesion to the build plate. Overall, despite a few issues which were most likely my fault (I was gone when they occurred for some of them), this printer is an amazing FDM 3D printer and I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for an affordable 3D Printer that has amazing quality. Plus, not that it is largely important, but the aesthetic is amazing. Especially since my walls are a darker grey blend, the look fits the industrial/ urban look I try for in my room, but that?s just a personal plus to note of you like industrial/ urban looks.

Monoprice MP Voxel 3D Printer
I have been using this printer for close to a year now and I will tell you it is simply fabulous! Very well built, easy to use, reliable, and very high quality prints with the PLA supplied with the machine. The heated build plate is great and does not require rafts, even for small parts. The finished parts are very easily removed from the build plate. This printer warms up very quickly - probably less than 1 minute from the time I tell it to print until it actually starts printing. The only thing that would make this printer better is if it had dual independent extruders for using PVA water soluble supports, but for $400 the Voxel is a great deal and the perfect entry level 3D printer.
I recently purchased the FlashForge Creator 3 (which does have dual independent extruders) at a cost of $3250. The Voxel is actually manufactured by FlashForge for Monoprice and the quality of both the Voxel and Creator 3 are comparable.
I have included some photos of some mechanical parts I printed on the Voxel. These parts were modeled in Fusion 360 and saved as STL files for input to the Flash Print slicer. As a mechanical engineer I am very impressed with the print quality, dimensional stability, and overall finish of these parts. As you can tell, I use this printer mainly for practical purposes, and not so much for printing figurines.
And even though I now own the more expensive FlashForge Creator 3, the Voxel is still my "Go-To" printer for these sorts of parts.
