I wasn't going to buy this initially since the crimper I chose had a stripper/cutter included. I must say this I am glad I got this as it is nice to have a dedicated tool to use.
The Cat5/6 stripper part works great. I would love to use the coax stripper but can't find any bulk coax or F connectors on Monoprice anymore.
The huge negative which was on reviews when I bought it called out the cutters in the handle slicing and dicing if you pulled this out of a pocket or bag. I wasn't going to do that so no problem.
However, I did have it on a table in front of me the other night and went to grab it. Thought I was grabbing it right but I was a half inch off and almost immediately there was blood all over. The blades are sharp enough that it doesn't really hurt... which means they slice deep and fast.
This is a great little tool but the cutter is waaay too exposed. I should have taken the blades off and thrown them away when I got it. Lesson learned. The cutter cuts great but it is way too close to the handle and you'll cut your fingers as often as you cut cables with it if you leave them installed.
Nice little tool, definitely not the best made of this kind or anything but it's stellar for the price. Needed it for a few little jobs around the house and it's plenty, if I was using this on the job or something I might look for a nicer model, but for personal use it was fantastic out of the box.
Was told this did a great job stripping RG6 cable and it does so very very cleanly, among the best I have seen for sure. The warnings about the rear blades are true, I have removed only after cutting myself which is very easy to do if you aren't careful.
I don't get why would some one give this tool or any tool for that matter a low rating just because they don't know how to operate it... but w/e.
Excellent tool. Im in the cable industry and use it everyday mainly for RG6/11/59. The blade is precise. This is low cost but excellent quality and my favorite designed stripper. I had a more expensive one that needed the blade replaced (no replacement available) and I chose to get a new one from monoprice, and that was close to 2 years ago. I find myself having to buy another one for the same reason. No blade replacement available, but its still affordable.
Tried a different brand from amazon and returning it today and only b/c I'm a prime member.
