Can 3 of these be used in a triple gang box? If so what face plate should be used?
A shopper
on Apr 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sure. Use a triple gang Decora (or equivalent) faceplate, same as with 3 light switches (for example). The rear binding post cross-holes for bare wire insertion are horizontally oriented, however, so there is some fiddling required to introduce four twin conductor cables using bare ends. Would have been easier if the manufacturer had oriented the rear binding post cross-holes at 45 degrees to horizontal.

Yes, these can be mounted in any electrical box, just like any switch or wall outlet (as long as it is deep enough to allow for the wiring). Standard faceplates for rectangular toggle switches fit fine. In my situation, I mounted mine in a triple gang plastic box (blue) I found at Menards. Actually found everything I needed at Menards. Hope this helped.

Three of them can definitely be used in a triple gang box. Make sure you use a deep box. A standard 3-gang decora style faceplate is all that is necessary. I recommend using a nylon plate vs. a plastic plate.

Can banana plugs be connected on both front and back for a complete connection? That would be a total of 16 banana plugs for this wall plate.
A shopper
on Dec 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. In fact, that's exactly how I wired mine. You could connect bare wire to either of the posts, on either side, but I found it a lot easier to put banana plugs on both sides. Made for quick and easy connection.
I used the Sewell Deadbolt Banana Plugs, and they were perfect for my needs. Quick, easy, secure connection.

Yes you can use plugs on both sides although it's not very deep - the plug tips will probably touch in the middle. I would not recommend this as the plugs are quite expensive and the screw-down connection is better than a plug.

How does the bare wire attach to the connector? Are there set screws to hold the wire? Any illustrations?
JimP
on Oct 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Wire attaches the same way as a modern A/V receiver. Either Banana plugs or screwed down bare wire (There is a post with a hole in it for bare wire to pass through and then the outer ring is screwed down). Unfortunately, there is not enough depth to the plate to use Banana plugs on both sides, so at least one side of the plate will have to be connected with screwed down bare wire. I did this on the in-wall side and use banana plugs on the accessible side.

There called 5 way binding posts. One of the 5 ways is both the front and back of the posts have holes that will accept up to a 12 guage wire. There are screw caps on the posts that screw down to tighten the wire onto the back of the plate. As installers we use that method on the back of the plate and then use bananna jacks on the front

On the back side of the plate there is a hole drilled through the threaded post at a 90* angle . You push your wire through this hole and screw down a nut to secure the wire.

Is there a female banana connector on each side?
So each speaker requires 3 cables? 1 going to the speaker, 1 to the amp, and 1 short one inside the wall?
I want to add speakers under eaves outside my patio, but keep the amp inside. Is there a better product to use?

BEST ANSWER: The same Binding posts are on both sides of the plate. You need two cables. One from the speaker to the plate and one from plate to amp. Should work ok for your example application but rain may be a concern.

There is a female banana connector on each side of the cover plate for each L/R connection point. I cannot speak to the setup for an amplifier.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, Monoprice's RCA keystones have the same hex nut mentioned in the other reply. You woukd just buy the RCA keystone, remove the post, and replace it on this.

Yes, but there is a hex nut holding it in place, so you would need a similar configuration for your RCA post to ensure it stays on the panel.

I just bought a house and it has this exact panel connected to surround sound. Can you someone tell me what exactly plugs into these?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: These are pre wired speaker connections. U can connect home theater output to these and connect speakers to the other end of the terminal. U can buy banana plugs for this side. I usually make my own cable with banana plugs ok both side. One side going into reciever and one side going in this panel.

You can plug in banana plugs but it looks equally neat with the bare wires inserted. Unscrew the knob until you can see the cross-hole where the wire goes. Insert the wire and tighten it down.

I need to connect 4 speakers, 2 in the kitchen & 2 in the dining room. Currently, only the dining room speakers are being used because my A/V receiver is only 2 zone, with the main 5.1 in the living room. Would you recommend installing 2 of these or one of the similar product for 4 speakers?

Can the connectors be removed from the plate? I'm looking for a plate in brown/bronze, but I can't find one so was considering getting this plate and painting it.

Doesn't fit in Decora plate
Bought this almost 2 years ago as I was building my home. Just got around to installing today, and I'm extremely annoyed to find that it doesn't fit in a standard Decora wall plate. The 1-gang plate it comes with fits, but it's too big for the 4-gang plate that I have (that the other 3 Monoprice keystone faces do fit into). Makes no sense, all the items were purchased from Monoprice.

Issues with fit
This comes with a 1-gang wall plate, but I needed to use this in a 2-gang box. I figured this would be no problem -- I ordered a two-gang wall plate with space for two insets from Monoprice. The two did not fit together. The speaker inset was just a tiny bit too large to fit into the hole in the wall plate. I had to file down the edges with a diamond file to make it fit.
Once I did that, I got everything hooked up to it and then discovered that I couldn't make the assembled bit fit into the standard Carlon 2-gang box in the wall. Once I got the top screws in place, the banana posts caught on the lower edge of the box and prevented me from seating it the rest of the way.
I finally gave up on this product and switched to keystones instead.

Good quality binding post plate
Just what I needed to upgrade a Decora-style plate to add connections for additional speakers recently installed. Fits the standard Decora plate that was already installed. The binding posts are good quality, work well with bare wire and banana plugs.

Solid product
I'm always pleased when I get stuff from Monoprice. This speaker wire binding post is solid. I like the fact you can use "banana" plugs or you can thread the wire like a needle and secure the wire that way or you can just wrap the wire around the post and tighten it in that manner. I used banana plugs and when inferring then on the terminal, the connection was secured and not wobbly at all.. You would need a bit of force to take off the banana plug off the terminal.
