Yes, though why you’re using 12 gauge is a question you should be asking yourself.

I noticed that several people commended that these require soldering wires to the back-side (behind wall) assuming one will use banana plugs on the front-side... Is there any sort of instructions on how to do this? I have a soldering iron and 60-40 solder that I can use, but I've only used this on circuit boards before. Looking at the back of the binding posts it appears they're set up to run the wire directly into the binding post and/or through the hole that runs perpendicular to the post, and then tighten down the nut. Maybe these answers are meant for an older version of this, or is it still recommended to solder?

BEST ANSWER: No need to solder anything. The screws on the back don't stay as well as I would like but that can be addressed in other ways.

Soldering isn't required or necessary. The way you described is exactly how mine are set up.

Soldering isn't necessary, the back unscrews so you can clamp down the wires.

You won’t need to solder. There are screw in connectors on both sides.

The holes in the 1-gang box that are in my wall are about 3-1/4 on center, will the screws line up with them?

will this accept 14 gauge speaker wire , and if so do you have the male end (14 gauge)?
Kenneth T
on Sep 27, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but barely. On the back side, you don't want or need the male banana connector. Twist the wire tightly and screw the outside of the post down securely. If you twist the wire and bend the tip ever-so-slightly, you can feed the wire straight into the binding post and out one side or the other and then tighten the outer ring. It's tricky but can be done. I used #21912 right angle banana connectors, also with 14ga wire.

These post will accept banana post or they can be screwed out to accept bare wire (or any other type of pin connector).

Does this come with the plugs as well, or do you have to buy them separately?

BEST ANSWER: If you are asking about the binding posts, this has binding posts on front and back. I used raw wire screwed down for a solid connection in the back binding posts and banana plugs in the front for easy removal of my speaker wire. These work great.

What am I missing here? I'm trying to put these on a standard Carlon low-voltage bracket and the holes aren't lining up. The holes on the inner bracket (that actually has the binding posts) line up... but not the outer face plate?

Can the insert be used separately from the face plate? My use case is a combo 2 gang high voltage / low voltage old work box for both an outlet and one set of speakers. Would be using a decora faceplate.

Good, inconsistent
Quality seems good: gold plating, sturdy screw connectors, firm mounting. But the horizontal holes in the mounting posts, which you need if you're using bare wires rather than banana plugs, seem to be oriented in random directions. On some units they are horizontal, some vertical, .... If they are vertical, they are difficult to use with stiff wire (eg. 12 gauge.) It may be possible to remove the posts and reorient them yourself, but that looked like more trouble than I wanted to go through.

A great upgrade!
The Banana Binding Post Wall Plates are great - functional, easy to install, and great looking! They are a vast improvement over the old spring-clip speaker connections I took out. It might be my imagination, but I think my speakers even sound better because the connection is much more secure and reliable than the old terminals. I wish I had done this years ago!

It Works Fine!
Couple Negatives on this item. No. 1 the screws included are wrong for the US? Long screws look like 8-32 too big as plastic wall box requires 6-32. Also the smaller plate screws threads don't look right? Lucky I had extra screws I could use. Also the wall plate is smaller than standard size. I replaced them with Leviton plates. See Pictures uploaded.
Left wall plate came with this item!

Not recommended
This is a cheap plastic part that worked initially, but when I tried to remove it, the end piece stuck and disengaged from the optical cable. I don't know if it worked after that as I just bought a new cable.
