Will this output audio from a MacBook Pro usb-c port to desktop speakers?

BEST ANSWER: I believe you can. It's not really up to the cable, but up to your MacBook. In settings, audio - once the adapter is plugged in, choose the USB C for audio out. Also, my MacBook has a 3.5mm jack out - so yours may already have this out in which case you don't need this. It's listed as a headphone out.

I use it to plug in my earphones with a 3.5mm plug, so if your speakers have a 3.5mm plug, I would expect them to work just as well.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, this will pass audio from the iPad Pro to your headphones. In my experience with Apply earbuds, the play/pause button on the headphones will work through this adapter but the volume buttons will not work. The more expensive Apple adapter does work with the volume controls.

Don't bother
The cord is so flimsy; It's already unusable.
A few weeks into this and it's already having issues. Volume turning up/down and losing bitrate. Voice assistant gets activated randomly. Sometimes it pauses the media altogether.
Build quality is shite for this one

Works as required, but needed some modifications for my car
While driving and playing there were issues with the cable -- the phone would say it's disconnected from the cable frequently. I believe that this was due to the cable being rather floppy and the connection flaking out when it wiggled. The 'fix' was to stiffen the cable with some packing tape rolled around it and a rubber band to hold it to the phone in such a way that the cable itself would not be vibrating. This appears to work very effectively now.
