Can I hook these directly to my Yamaha receiver or do I need a special amp to power them?

BEST ANSWER: Most AVRs have a passive line out for LFE or subwoofer out. Our Unity series amps bridged mono will do well for you. Both have trigger and audio sensing for power on/off

If you have a spare channel (powered) you could hook these up directly to your receiver. These are passive woofers with a built-in cross-over. For example, I have one hooked up to my centre channel (I do not have a surround sound setup). If you are thinking to use it in a X.1 setup as the .1...... then you will need an additional amplifier for it.

You have to buy a separate amplifier for these subs. I purchased the monoprice amplifier. With this combination, I love the way these subs sound. I have 2 of them in my master bedroom

What's the eva that comes in the kit for?
A shopper
on Aug 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Eva is a spongy polypropylene that isolates the speaker frame from the wall. Due to the low frequency and high power from this unit it is very susceptible to audible vibration.

This is the Ethylene-vinyl acetate or covering that goes over the speaker before you place the speaker grill on. This covering is so you do not see the actial speaker itself. This usually comes with all speaker.

Will the Monoprice Unity 200-Watt Bridgeable Power Amp be good enough for this sub? If so, will it be ok to hook 2 of these subs to it?

BEST ANSWER: The Unity 200 will put 100W into each speaker if run in stereo. The Caliber subs are rated for 150W RMS. The speaker will be OK. They will sound better if you bridge 2 Unity 200 amps and put 225W into each one.

If I have a 7.2 channel receiver like the Yamaha RX-V685, can I power 2 of these by connecting both subwoofer outputs up to a Monoprice Unity 450 Watt Bridgeable Power Amp (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=18514) and use regular speak cable to run to the speakers? Or would I need 2 200 watt power amps running separately?
Also would that sound better than just purchasing 2 powered amps such as https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9723
Thank you in advance!

BEST ANSWER: The Unity 450 can handle a 4Ohm load, but you'd have to wire those Caliber 10" passive subs in series to do it - but if you did, yes, that would work. The 12" in your list has it's own amp built in, so no need for an additional amp for that one. If you're driving all 3 (2 x Caliber passive subs + 1 x 12" powered sub), you'd just use a RCA Y adapter to split the signal coming out of the receiver - one to the powered sub, and one to the Unity 450 driving your Caliber passive subs.

Will this work well with a Sonos amp? Also, is the the 3.6" clearance measured from the surface of the drywall or the actual beam depth inside the wall?

If I were to mount this, or one of the other in-wall subs, in a standard internal wall cavity (8' tall, 1/2" sheet rock on both sides, between two 2x4s 16" on center, no fire stops), how low could I expect a relatively flat frequency response? Is there anything that can be done to improve it without making modifications to the wall itself? Would stuffing the cavity with fiberglass be beneficial?

Regarding the installation of the 10" Caliber in-wall subwoofer... First, the instructions show "2x EVA" are included but make no mention of what to do with it. The subwoofer includes 2 pieces of double sided foam tape, which I'm inclined to believe is the EVA, as well as an (unmentioned) strip of sticky black "tar" (for lack of a better term). What is the double sided foam tape for and what is the "tar" for?
Also under the painting section of the instructions, it says after removing the grille to "remove the foam insert and set it aside." It is never mentioned again. Should I put it back? What purpose does it serve? Thank you!

If I have two of the 10 inch Monoprice Caliber In-Wall Speakers (300W) in a 7.2 channel surround system, would either the Monprice SWA-400 Subwoofer Amplifier (400W) or the SWA-200 (200W) be a good choice?

The Chuffer
This SUB is just plain outdated. With the ridiculous mounting bracket plus the way it installs, is just wrong. Get the Alpha, Or another brand that won't chuff and over extend during loud movie passages. I tried every crossover and power setting I could, and this thing just won't behave.. It's a terrible sub. Now I have to cut through my paneled wall to install another. Avoid at all cost.

Get Alpha sub instead of Caliber sub
I got different types of monoprice in wall speakers and this one is just a hassle. It doesn't sit flush against the wall and looks terrible due to that. The other sub (Alpha) I got does the job well. Stay clear of this one if you value your time and money. I tried to replace this one with the Alpha Sub (even offered to pay for the shipping) but customer support says I am past 30 days and so its not possible.
