Can I run this splitter "backwards" to switch between two computers driving a single DisplayPort monitor?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Just offhand 'no'. While I have not tried it, this unit is set up to go one way: one computer to two monitors.
What you are looking for would be a KVM switch designed to work with displayport inputs and outputs.

No, it doesn't have a way to switch between two sources. It can only split a single source into two outputs.

I Have a hp slim docking station that has only 2 display ports and 1 VGA port I need this for a 4th monitor can I use the to extend my desktop as a forth monitor ?

on Apr 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No. In fact I've tried this exact thing and the docking station doesnt appear to have enough power to even display one monitor plugged the adapter let alone two.
I think your best solution is getting a USB to VGA. Mine is still in the mail, but those docking stations have usb 3.0 slots in the back which will support a full 1080.

Trying to connect two external monitors in an extended mode to a Lenovo ThinkCentre All in one via passives HDMI cables using your DP Monoprice 121972 2-Port DisplayPort adapter; the All in one screen (#1) will extend to the 2 monitors in the adapter, (#2 and #3), but the two screens in the adapter are duplicate of each other. I cannot get extended mode in the 3 screens. Tried in Win 10 and Win 7 pro to no avail. Any suggestions? Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: I think it depends on the video software in the PC. I have an HP all in one and I hooked this device up to 3 monitors and it works great. My specs said it would not do more than 3. Check your video, it might only be capable for 2.

If the motherboard has 1 displayport and 2 hdmi ports running off intel integrated graphics from the i7-8700, would I be able to use this mst hub and the hdmi ports to run 4 monitors in extended desktop mode? I don't want to buy a graphics card because I'm not a gamer.

BEST ANSWER: If your motherboard supports DisplayPort 1.2, which I would assume it does if it supports this processor, then this hub should work. Note, you'll be attaching it to the motherboard's DisplayPort output, not HDMI. You could use an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter, or vice versa, if you really want to involve HDMI.

BEST ANSWER: No, this is is a DisplayPort hub, it doesn't have any hdmi ports/plugs.
I imagine there are combinations of dock and laptop that this would work for. However your not going to get a definitive answer for your setup.

We purchased this to add a third monitor and it appears to be working however, the 2 monitors attached intermittently turn off for a few seconds then back on again. We tried changing the cables but still no luck. Running this on a Dell Precision 3631 with i7-9700 cpu. We do not have the same issue with the monitor connected directly. Any advice how to troubleshoot this issue?

Works pretty well
I have had my unit in service for about 3 months. This display system is usually active for 4-5 hours per week.
Upon booting the computer I will have instances where I need to boot again as the first screen will either not activate or will have an issue where it works great for 10-15 minutes, goes blank for 5 seconds then works for 10-15 minutes. Not a show stopper but annoying.
I have not looked into returning it.
