BEST ANSWER: If it were not shielded, I don't think it would function. DP1.2 involves high speed communication that would not work well without proper shielding.

Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 4K
Works great. Had an old loose mini DP cord previously that would randomly disconnect. Replaced with this cord (actually bought 2 just for a backup) and haven't had a single disconnection issue. Great product, Great purchase...Once again monoprice is my only place for cords.
