Hi... could you tell me if these come with a grille?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Yes. They come a standard white grille. A little lighter in color than my ceiling but it blends in well. Initially, I wanted to paint it to match the ceiling exactly but decided it blended well enough.

Yes they come with a grill with no logo. As you can see on the picture of the speaker there are little magnets around the edge that hold the grill in place. Very clean look when installed.

Is a mounting kit required?
Richard W
on Jun 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Everything you need to mount this speaker is built in. You just need to cut the hole in the drywall using the provided template, connect the speaker wires and turn four screws. The four screws flip a bracket that tightens to the drywall. It was a very quick install and nothing was needed, other than the wiring in the ceiling, a Phillips head screwdriver and a drywall saw/knife.

Did anyone install using monoprice closed screw banana plugs? Or did you use just connect via bare wire or some other shorter plug? I ask because i don't think i can fit the speaker in with the banana plugs i have without having to crawl up into the attic and connect them after the fact.
A shopper
on Nov 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in these installed speakers. We tested them with bananas. Bare wire is the best way to connect as signal is lost between all connections so it is best to make direct connection with the wire.

Can I install a single speaker in a room and still get stereo or do I need to install 2 per room?

BEST ANSWER: No. Stereo sound requires two channels. You would need two of these speakers. Or, Monoprice also has a similar speaker that has stereo sound from one speaker with two tweeters. PID 4619. However, this speaker still requires two sets of speaker wire from your amplifier. Hope this helps.

You can only get "stereo" with 2 or more speakers.. Some will assume stereo mean that it will not sound like a AM radio when you say stereo. It wont sound like AM radio but it wouldn't have real stereo

Posted question before and it disappeared so reposting: are these good for regular music? Looking at have these on patio. 10ft ceiling. will be 4 of them running off a sonos connect and secondary TV audio. currently have Polk rc80i throughout house and they are great speakers but Polk decided to double the price on them last winter. If these are good I'd consider adding them to our main room. 15 ft cathedral ceiling would use four of them in there are well again primarily sonos and TV

I have not used them as part of surround sound system for a TV. I think that one gets a fair amount of value for the cost.

BEST ANSWER: These are the same clips that are found on all of our in-wall and ceiling speakers. They are sturdy for me. Before you install, screw them down and back out once to work the screw through the plastic before you put them into the ceiling. Then, once you put them in the ceiling, give them one turn counter-clockwise to make sure the leg isn't tight against the rest that it sits on, and then screw clockwise. Haven't broke one yet.
Also, make sure you don't over-tighten - these will not get super tight, you can feel when you reach resistance, and you should stop shortly after.

Carbon fiber will handle more power before distortion and last longer than Kevlar. Kevlar is better in humidity like bathrooms. The black Back has a protective cover that block debris from getting in to electronics and drivers but retains an open sound. There is no Back can available at this time for the Black Back.

I wouldn't get too hung up on materials in terms of SQ. I've heard high-end treated paper cones that put out more natural sound that composites.

First timer here. We are remodeling our 12 x 16 family room with 12" (at highest) cathedral ceilings. I have a Samsung 60" with a Samsung sound bar with wireless woofer. What would the least expensive way to add these (in ceiling) to my system? Would I need an amplifier or receiver or can I hook directly into tv?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this ceiling speaker.
If your SB is hooked up digitally, toslink optical or HDMI, then it is designed to handle all of your audio program and adding speakers may cause more problems than it will fix.
If it is analog, dual RCA, then you can add one of our Unity series amplifiers in line from the TV then line out to your SB.
If you are looking for 3D immersive sound like Atmos™ or DTS-X™ then you will need to use a receiver with a digital out from the TV. The SB becomes a pseudo LCR + Sub. We offer several 3rd party branded AVRs. Looks like a Denon model is the least expensive.

Monoprice Black Back Ceiling Speakers 8in 2-Way Fiber with Covered Crossover (pair)
Monoprice 6-Zone Home Audio Multizone Controller and Amplifier Kit, NO LOGO
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can. Each zone has a stereo pair of speaker outputs. Each amp channel will support minimum 4Ω loads. Your two pairs of Black Back speaker are 8Ω each, when wired in parallel it will equal a 4Ω total load on the amp. Enjoy.

I have 2-car garage and going to install 4 of these speakers in ceiling. Is it going to be enough? I don't need it to be very loud. Just want to hear music nicely across the garage while doing something there.

BEST ANSWER: Yes four will be enough for sure each speaker covers about 15 foot in all directions

2 would be enough if you had them loud, 4 would be phenomenal for an even spread.

I've ordered 4 of these speakers to be installed in my 2-car garage (24x24ft). Any tips on their placement? Should I just "divide" my garage in 4 squares and put a speaker in each center? Or should I put them closer to walls or something? Thanks in advance.

BEST ANSWER: Even dispersion calls for evenly place drivers. You will get better bass response closer to the walls but only in a few locations.

I have 5 of these in the living room for surround sound. That is mainly for movies, etc. When we play music it is awesome. I would guess that your quadrant plan would work well in the garage. The speakers are really very good. They will fill the space.

Description, Specs, and Manual do not mention the dB switch located on the bezel. I assume this is to adjust the volume (dB) to help balance sound between multiple speakers. Does this switch work or is it non-functional? Has anyone heard a difference when using this switch?

BEST ANSWER: The switch is an attenuation for the high frequency tweeter.

Why would there be an option for the user to attenuate the tweeter to balance with the woofer...wouldn't the manufacturer have already balanced the tweeter with the woofer? If I am not understanding, please explain in more detail.
It is designed to be a room compensator. If your room has a lot of dampening materials like carpet, heavy drapes, and cloth furniture you will run the switch at zero since the sound will be absorbed my the materials. If your have a "live" room with lots of hard surfaces like tile floors and large exposed windows you will find the high frequencies to be a little hot or cause a lot of reverberation. In this situation you will want to bring the high down a little to compensate.

Yes. Absolutely there is a noticeable volume difference with the switch positions. These speakers sound great and have a nice build quality.

I'm planning to have 4 of these speakers off one amp (L and R channels), with a pair in a Master Bedroom and the other pair in the Master Bathroom. I was hoping to use the switch to make the volume in the Bathroom 6dB lower than the volume in the Bedroom (hopefully that makes sense). Is this a good use for the switch?

The switch adjusts HIGH frequencies ONLY. It does not lower the overall loudness of the speaker. As the lit states (somewhere, I've seen it) the switch is to reduce the "brightness" of the sound, so it is like a stepped treble control.

Will this speaker work with the 24762 bracket? Speaker cutout is 244mm vs bracket's 259mm. Is there enough flange to mount this speaker in the 259mm cutout?

BEST ANSWER: I did not measure the mm's... just assumed they would be a match. I mounted the brackets to wood framing, installed, cut holes to match the inside diameter in the sheetrock, finished the sheetrock, then mounted the speakers. no problems, fit perfectly. speakers have a wing nut fitting that turns and tightens to the bracket.. Would recommend getting the back speaker covers as well

No speaker that Monoprice sells works with these brackets. The speakers are all slightly too big. I complained to customer service and they were like "oh well."

Have not hooked them up as of yet. I am worried about the bottom end sound. I have high expectations. I've looked for reviews other than the web site but have not found any on them.

Clean looking power for your ceiling!
These are really nice speakers!! Installation is a breeze due to the large flange and flip tabs to secure them to the drywall. The grill looks sleek without a trim ring. And despite the size my wife approves! I ran 12GA 99% copper from amazon basics to feed them.

Great design and value
I put 4 of these in the ceiling that I previously prepared with 2x6 construction to enclose them. They compliment an SVS center and subwoofer. I am delighted with the result. The low profile magnetic covers nearly disappear and make a simple installation even easier.

8" speakers with Airplay in the kitchen...
I am remodeling my kitchen... Trying to get rid of all the counter clutter :) Anyway I paired these speakers with a Sony auto-on/off amplifier and an Apple airport express. The sound is very clean. It is a little lacking on the really low end but then again I don't want to shake the whole house... That said, the longer I play them the better they sound... I have heard you have to break them in... There might be some truth in that
Anyway, overall, I am really happy. These are well constructed, great sounding speakers for not a lot of money...
