are owners of the monolith seven simply plugging into a standard wall outlet? would it be ideal to run a designated 15 or 20 amp line? I am concerned about this since I have a 65" plasma, a powered svs pb13 ultra sub, and a polk center channel which has its own powered sub, and an onkyo receiver which in this application would by pass the on board amps. I would appreciate any input on this subject.

BEST ANSWER: Obviously if you are building a house and can get dedicated lines put in for your HT, ABSOLUTELY do that.
If you are just doing the best you can with what you've got, I'd try to isolate the Monolith 7 to be as isolated as you can from the other gear so it can draw as much power as it can from that line and the other line feed the rest of the gear.
I have 2 x 20 amp dedicated circuits for all the amps I'm running (including a Monolith 7 on one of the circuits) plus what came with the room which is another 2 x 15 amp. No regrets here. :)

Monolith X7 measures 140 watts with Denon 4700 volume dial at 34. By the time I reach 65 on the volume the Monolith reaches 200 watts (according to Kill-O-Watt). This power draw is less than many desktop computers. There is very little energy difference whether stereo or all 7 channels are running. No need for a dedicated circuit based on this data.

I asked myself this same question before I bought the Monolith 7. I did some research on the internet and satisfied myself I'd be OK. After all it is unlikely that you will ever have all 7 channels operating at the full 200 watts simultaneously - I suspect that will never happen. My situation is a bit better than yours in that I have dual 20amp circuits feeding my AV equipment. I have the amp and my preamp sharing one circuit. I have had no hint of trouble.
Overall I am very happy with the punch this amp delivers to my speakers. And the price is hard to beat.

I own the monolith 7. It's a great amp. I have it running though a monster power centre and I monitor the amperage it pulls... it has t gotten close to blowing a 15 amp breaker. My tv is led though. Dedicated power is always best... but it would likely be ok. I have a 800w 15" sub running and a denon receiver. I've cranked it up ear bleeding loud... hasn't blown yet 😉 Buy it... cheap, quality, and clean looking...and is basically all the power youll need.

Add up the wattage used by your other equipment plus the Monolith amp. If that exceeds 1800 watts (15 x 120) for a 15 amp circuit, or 2400 watts (20 x 120) for a 20 amp circuit, then you will exceed the safe maximum wattage draw for either of those wall circuits. If you can, it is always a good idea to have a dedicated circuit for special equipment. Consider the benefits of surge protection for your sensitive electronic equipment.

I just installed my MC 700 into a normal (power surge protected) outlet on the same line as all the other 6 units being powered. My electrician and the professional installer had zero concerns about it. I would have it plugged into a surge protector but other than that I am not aware of any concern. Hope this helps!

I have two Monolith 7s each is plugged into their own dedicated 20 amp circuit. Thus ensuring they are never starved for power. House is on surge protector. I did consider putting them on power conditioners but power in my area is relatively clean, and would need a special conditioner for an amp this size.

A dedicated circuit would be ideal. I have mine plugged into a very large UPS. Having said that though, I have never seen the UPS go much over 50% usage in even the loudest scenes. So you may be able to limp along on a 20 amp circuit, but dedicated would definitely be the way to go.

Yes it can handle 4 ohms. In their product description page "There is NO current limiting and there is no protection circuitry in the amplifier circuit path. Even if the speakers' impedance drops to a low level, the Monolith is robust enough that the current is never limited".

With respect to your inquiry regarding the Monoprice Monolith Power Amplifier and the Denon, I can offer a few comments. First, I have had two Denon receivers, the most recent being the 3311CI, a very capable unit. I used it for years as a stand-alone receiver, then more recently as a bi-amping pre-amp for the Monolith. I’ve had no concerns concerning overheating. Assuming your 4310 is not malfunctioning (e.g., a problem with the power transformers), it’s difficult to know why and to what extent your unit seems to be running too hot to you. There are obvious possibilities such as inadequate ventilation around the receiver, items blocking the vent holes around the case, and driving the receiver at high volumes for too long a time. You’ll want to be sure to rule those out. Your receiver provides 130 watts into 8 ohms for two channels, so you have a goodly amount of power for your speakers.
As for the Monoprice power amp, I’ve been using it daily since last May and it’s been performing very well. I’m certainly not an electronics expert, but I have not noticed it producing any remarkable “cooling ease” on either the Denon 3311CI I had been using with it nor on the Marantz 7702 mk II, which I now use as a pre-amp with the Monolith. I can report the Monoprice has performed admirably and for its comparatively low price, the 200+ watts per channel of serviceable power is a fine bargain. I do quite a bit of 2-channel listening and am not terribly interested in an Atmos configuration, so I use its seven channels in a 5.1 surround system, utilizing the two extra channels in a bi-amp configuration with my Vandersteen IICE signature 2’s. I’ve been quite satisified.

I have had the Monolith for 6-8 months now. I have not been able to use it real extensively (I am still configuring my HT). But, I have not noticed any excessive heat being generated. And when I do use the amp, I like it playing at fairly high volumes. So, I am very satisfied with the heat levels that are emitted (hey, in the winter I think of it as an advantage (in the Las Vegas area)! Certainly not hot to the touch. So impressed with the mass on this baby. No thief is just "carrying" it out. He better bring a dolly. . .

Another thing you can do when using external amplification is turn eco mode on if your Denon or Marantz AVR has it. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're using external amplification tho! ECO will have an effect on sq at higher volumes using the Denon's own internal amps. After adding external amplification I've had ECO on (my Marantz SR6011) with zero impact on sound quality, and my AVR runs MUCH cooler now. I even removed the AC Infinity fan I was using to keep it cool!

The Monolith 7 gets pretty hot, too. Not over heating, it just operates hot due to it's linear power supply. As for your Denon over heating, that would depend on what is causing it to do so. If it's because of the power amps, then there is the possibility that not using the by using the Monolith 7 instead might make the Denon operate cooler. If it something else, not so much.

Even if you move some of the channels to external amplification the Denon will still get warm. For good cooling results turn on Denon ECO mode with an external amp. Get the "AC Infinity MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Fan" to keep the Denon cool. It's the best $20 you can spend to reduce heat. I also put one on my Monolith X7. It runs super cool now.

Is the Denon properly ventilated, do you have any external fans on it? The Monolith would take some pressure off it but regardless it should not be overheating. My Denons run hot, I use small fans to help.

I did not do any real measurement. I did added the channels from 3 to 7. From the hardware architecture I can observe, every channel is supposed by a stand-alone card. The rated power for every channel is determined by every card. So I don’t think the rated power on the used channels can be increased when no all channels are used.

BEST ANSWER: I’ve only had my amp a little while and haven’t really pushed it terribly hard for very long at one time but it only got warm never hot. 2 grand is a lot of money to me and I like to get the most longevity out my equipment as possible so I still added a ac infinity T9 fan to the top of the amp just as a precaution . I use the same fan on my Yamaha 3070.

It doesn’t get that hot at all from my experience. Yes, it’s warm, but that’s about it. If in a bedroom it might contribute to making the room slightly warmer. Also, I’ve had mine on 12 - 16 hours some days with no issues. Had it almost a year. Highly recommended.

This unit is designed with massive heat-sinks and doesn't require fan cooling. I have mine sitting in the open. The top gets comfortably warm during operation but not at all hot. As long as you give it a little room to breathe, it should be fine.

My understanding is that most Class D amps don't like to have power applied without a load (speaker) connected. The Monolith, being a Class AB amp, doesn't have a problem with that. I'm only using five of my seven channels for several months now. Granted, I haven't checked the other two unused channels, but I don't think I'll have any problems with them.

BEST ANSWER: Depends on what kind of speakers you want to run, 100W is perfectly adequate unless you have really high powered surround speakers or want to get the last 1% of audio performance with the extra dynamic headroom with 200W all around. I personally wish I had gone for the 11 channel since I now need to buy another amp if I want to go full separates (currently paired with a Yamaha RX-A3080 AVR so it can power my atmos channels).
If money is no object, go ahead and get 200W all around but otherwise the 11ch version is a much better value with likely indistinguishable difference in sound quality--that price difference is better spent on room treatments, other equipment, or just saving

11 channel unless u got money to burn. Ur not gonna notice a huge difference, maybe not at all. I personally did 7 ch amp and put my atmos on my receiver (bought my receiver first and was trying to run everything off that). If u got nothing better to spend ur money on and/or u really wanna invest in the best sound u can afford, get 2 amps. If ur just looking to support atmos properly, the 11 will perform very well, assuming u can get a decent one.

I'm using an older Integra DHC-9.9 AV processor. It has XLR balanced outputs and was widely regarded in its day, although only supports up to 1080p video so to use a modern tv you have to bypass source material directly to the tv, then audio out to the processor from there.

What is the input sensitivity of this amp? I know that many amps need a preamp output voltage of at least 2 volts to make their rated power....many people will use an amp like this with their AVR as the preamp and most AVR's only have a preout voltage of .75-1 volt which isn't a strong enough signal for the amp to really perform as it should...

on Mar 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The spec sheet on the amp says an input sensitivity for full power is 1.6 volts. The amp is built by ATI, who have been in the business for a long time. I use the amp with my Marantz 7702A pre amp which has an audio analog output of 1.2 volts unbalanced and 2.4 balanced. The digital output is 2 volts at 0db playback. Those specs were identical to a Denon AV 3311 receiver that I had also used as a preamp before the Marantz. I can tell you that the amp seem to perform well with both pieces.

I can not answer this directly...
but can only say that I use the Monolith with my Denon AVR-4520CI 3D 4K 150W 11.2 as a pre-amp, but only for 5 channels. My other 4 channels are handled direcltly by the Denon.. Everything works perfectly....except...
I do get one periodic artifact upon system start-up --->
The Denon starts up, sound is on for the Denon channels, but the trigger (I use the trigger cable that came with the Monolith for auto-Monolith turn-on upon Denon start-up) has a delay, every so often. To "kick-start" the Monolith, I simply change the Sat TV channel 2-3 times...BAM, on it comes and the sound fills the room. Not sure why it does this, but it only started doing it after the Monolith was perhaps a year old.
Flawless otherwise, and crystal clear in all channels.
Would buy both units again in a heartbeat.

I am considering this amp. Is there any advantage in going with the XLR cables over the RCA?
A shopper
on Dec 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: XLR Cables advantage is it is immune to electromagnetic magnetic interference noise (EMI) that can corrupt the signal, especially on a long cable run. An example of these noises are humming, static white noise, etc.. Use xlr if you have a long cable run, have to many cables close to each other, and/or if your processor, pre-amp, or receiver output is also xlr.

The main benefit of balanced cables is their ability to transfer sound signals over much longer runs/distances without signal loss, or interference. ... In a nutshell, a balanced interconnect has some sonic benefit over unbalanced. In equipment where you have both options, it's wise to chose XLR over RCAEnter an answer to this question.
