Can these be run through a wall or do they need to be rated like HDMI cables?

BEST ANSWER: All fiber optic cables can be used within a wall, as fiber optic cables don't transmit voltage, they transmit light, so CL voltage ratings [CL2, CL3, etc.] don't apply, just as fire jacket ratings [CMR, CMP, etc.] don't apply since they only apply to electrical cables that can be the source of a fire.

This cable is not rated to be used in the wall, otherwise it's a great cable. You'd have to look specifically for a in-wall cable.

I have no idea. But I wouldn't even buy them cause the tech is outdated and doesn't support the newest audio features

Fiber optic cables don't support any features beyond light transmission and I'm also perplexed by "outdated features", as the only thing that evolves in fiber optic cables are what material the fiber is made from, whether plastic, silica, or sapphire based, it's diameter, and the casing material.

Product # 1419 snap perfectly in my Vizio sound bar? I ask because the included cable that Vizio gives you is thin & cheap looking

Yes i believe all toslink cables are universal and it matters little if it looks thin and cheap, i bought one myself and at first i had the same opinion as you but after plugging it in it works just fine, no issues. After all the cable just needs to transmit light!

What's the difference between this and the premium one (Product # 2764) sold on monoprice?
Fahd K
on Jul 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Looks to be the end (one says 5.0mm OD, one say 8.0mm OD) and the sleeve. The premium doesn't seem to have the plastic "cap" that protects the end that this one has.

I have both; the gray one is thicker/nicer looking woven type cover; both work (the other one I use in an application where I needed a longer run)

What is the temperature rating for this cable (both cold and hot)? Is there a spec sheet?
A shopper
on Sep 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: no temperature rating. These things do not get hot. These cables transfer light . there is no solid wire. you can not overheat or break a light wave signal. Plug it in and you will see light at the end of the plastic cover. remember to remove the protective cover or you will break delicate in/outputs. REMBER IT SAYS OPTICAL.

Perfect
I needed this to connect my Sony Bravia TV to my Yamaha receiver for when I use the smart TV video apps. Works perfectly, took about a minute to plug in (had to move some stuff around). I wasn't expecting the receiver to auto switch to the correct audio input so that was a pleasant surprise. Fantastic price on Monoprice, as expected!

Quality Product and Meets Basic Digital Audio Need!
This TOSLINK cable met my need for a greater than 3' cable needed. It allowed me to connect an audio source device to my older receiver with HDMI ARC compatibility issues. While ARC would be ideal, this cable is the band aid solution I am able to use, and a digital TOSLINK is meeting my basic needs. The cable functions as expected.

Thick Casing & Nice Protective Caps
In addition to the protective caps at each end of the cables, the casing protecting the "optical innards" is much thicker than other cables I have used. I replaced all the other thinner cables (one of which had become worn from apparent constant abrasion) with these more durable cables.

Monoprice Toslink Rewiew
Found myself needing an optical cable and looked no further than Monoprice. They had exactly what I needed and I even ordered more than I needed to have on-hand for some other applications. Cables were packaged carefully, seem to be well-built, and a bright flashlight shown through from one end to the other indicating nothing broken. For the price it is hard to go wrong here.

It works
The cable was correct, as ordered, and the quality of the cable, and the optical ends looked well made. And, most importantly, they worked.

Great Optical Cable 6 Ft.
The optical cable works great. I easily attached it to my Denon receiver, but I had some trouble attaching to my TCL Roku TV. I don't know if the issue was the cable or the TV itself, but I finally was able to push it in. No problems since then.
