How long are the 'pigtails' from the connectors to the bundle/casing?

BEST ANSWER: From where the individual cables exit from the snake body, it is approximately 12 3/4" to the back of the XLR plug.

I have the 3 ft version of this xlr snake cable. In the 3ft version, the pigtails are 9 inches long on both sides.

They are about one foot if memory serves correctly. You could make them longer buy cutting back the external sheething.

Can these be used in a home theater application for connecting a pre-pro to an amplifier?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, as long as your equipment has matching XLR jacks. These cables have XLR plugs on both ends, however, you must make sure that the pin configurations match. These cables are designed for extending audio cables for professional audio applications and are designed with male pin configurations on one side and female pin configurations on the other. Just make sure they match before you purchase. Also, these cables are low impedance cables as opposed to typical high impedance RCA type cables. So, if you are thinking you can just cut the plugs off and replace them with RCA plugs it won't work. It may work, but your sound quality will suffer. You can however purchase matching transformers that adapt to other plug styles. Hope this helped.

If the connectors match, I don't see why not. I've used these in either mic or line level situations.
For my application, I stripped off the outer covering and used this as 4 separate XLR to XLR cables.

BEST ANSWER: I think they are about 24 guage. The snake is meant for extending mic or line level signals, so they are more than adequate for that purpose. They are Not meant for speaker levels pwer. These are a great buy. Use many of them. I can't buy the parts for what they cost assembled.

Decent quality, outstanding price
While these are not Rapco, Whirlwind, Laird or Mogami, these are excellent utility snakes and the price is miraculous for the quality. The cable is adequate for basic use, the connectors are well-made, and correctly soldered.
