How would you mount a shelf on top of this bracket? I see product ID 8631 and I understand how you'd put it on the bottom, but don't see how you'd mount it on top of this bracket, unless you occupy 1U of space. Basically, if I have a patch panel in the topmost slot of the bracket, how would I cover it from the top?
There is not an easy way to accomplish that. I mounted the shelf in the top 2 slot in the rack, but I also planned for that space to be used for a shelf. If you looking more for a lid, You could fashion one out of 16ga flat stop steel, paint it and then essentially build yourself a lid.
First one came bent, damaged in shipping but Monoprice gladly replaced. I then went to town and built a Power Sequencing unit out of it. Excellent value for the money. Strong and not too deep. Just what i needed.
I bought this shelf to place a router and modem on for my home network install since those items were not rack mountable. I liked the construction of the shelf and it provides just the amount of space that I needed. The high lip on the front and the back of the shelf are helpful to keep things from sliding off the front or the back of the shelf. I used the screws that came with the rack because the screws that came with the shelf were the wrong size for my small rack.
Needed another shelf for a Monoprice rack I installed some years back so this was a no brainier. Slightly different; more dull finish then the previous one purchased years ago.
One star off for shipping. This item ships in a plastic bag inside a large box with a few air pillows. It busted through the side of the box in two locations and both corners of the shelf on the front were bent with paint chipped on one side. This things needs better protection for shipping - especially from California to Pennsylvania.
I've ordered maybe five of these things in the past, and they never disappoint. Shipping, while a little pricey, is quick and things always arrive in great condition, but then again, it's built very well, so I'm sure that helps. One or two people have complained about the screws that came with it, but I use the screws that came with the bracket I buy (PID 8628), so I don't have any issues there.
PROS: Well built, hefty Nice finish Durable Not too heavy Good weight rating
