Need to hook DVD player and Roku, I have only one hdmi port ?

BEST ANSWER: Yup, that's the idea. Sharing a single port with two devices. Works as advertised, count on having to manually switch to the correct device as the roku will probably always be on. You will need individual cables from each of the two HDMI devices.

It should work fine for that if both have HDMI output. Has an automatic detector for which input is active, but if it does not select the desired source, there is a button to manually select.

Do I have to manually switch I currently have 2 hdmi ports on my tv but have the cable box, dvd and wii console all hdmi . Will this allow me to use one hdmi port on tv for cable and the other for the DVD player and wii? If so will it automatically know that I have the dvd on? Or the wii? Thank You

BEST ANSWER: If both the wii and dvd are on, you will have to manually select, however if only one is powered on, it should automaticaaly shift to that port. I have this on my computer monitor, and one port is my laptop and the other is my desktop and have had no issue with it sensing which. I also have the 3 port version on my tv, with my laptop cable, streaming box, and my ps4. again no issues if only one of these 3 is powered on.

Will this work if I plug the unit into the back of my computer and once the video is loaded on the monitor, I "switch" it to the TV? I will have HDMI cable now coming from monitor to unit and HDMI cable coming from TV to unt.

This is a switch so it only takes video in from a source like a cable box or computer and sends it to a display like TV or monitor so you can switch between the different source devices and get them to display on the screen.
As long as you are trying to get a monitor to display video from two different sources this would allow for you to do so.

Significantly reduces quality and color
Don't know if this switch processes the input or what but after I plugged it in the difference was instantly noticeable. And I wasn't even looking for it. The color is oversaturated and the image quality sucks. I can tell across the room. Would rather manually switch HDMI inputs than deal with this thing messing up the image quality.
The auto switching functionality did seem to work fine while I had it plugged in, which was briefly.
FWIW I have a $300 Samsung UHD TV - nothing special. The TV has UHD color optimization settings and for the sake of comparison I tried with the optimization on and off. Made no difference, monoprice hdmi switch sucks. Get what you pay for with this one I guess.

Did what advertised it would do. Only downfall is I was using for a ROKU Express+ and it stays powered up so the automatic switching can't work. I can't blame this device since it can't detect the other device when it is turned on.
