Monoprice 5ft IR Extender Cable (Sender)

Monoprice 5ft IR Extender Cable (Receiver)
BEST ANSWER: The IR receiver needs a power source, and gives you unmodulated IR signal out (38khz carrier is gone). The IR transmitter also needs power, and the carrier frequency needs to be added back. There are little inexpensive boxes that have 3 or 4 receiver jacks, and 3 or 4 emitter jacks, and come with a wall wart adapter that do this, but strangely monoprice doesn't carry them. Google image search "Ir extender" - you should find many.

The IR receiver cable worked quite well inside a cabinet with my cable box. However it did not work with my AV receiver because it was proprietoriy. The people at Mono price are terrific by the way.

These IR extenders are passive and need to be combined with an additional, active component, like the IR Extender Over HDMI - PID: 9964.

Which IR receiver and transmitter (blaster) should be used with this unit (21792)? I've tried 27220 and 8059+8060 and neither seem to work. Is there a different IR kit that works with the 21792?

Does this work with the Mono Price 6 Zone Home Audio Multizone Controller and Amplifier Kit? There are IR outputs on the amp and I believe the wall control units repeat any IR signal to the amp so that it can broadcast it to nearby devices.

Great unit
You can't beat this price. They work great and easy to install. IR is functional for most equipment, but some (like Bell receivers) have issues. I believe it is due to passing different frequencies. Still looking into this issue

Does not work with Harmony Hub
Was hoping it would work with a Harmony Hub through the use of a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter. Everything plugs in properly, but no signals send from the IR emitter.

Great!
I used this with the ir over hdmi i had purchased from monoprice. I needed this to add a device that needed the ir signal as well. I purchased a 3.5 splitter and both transmitters are sending signal! This saved me from having to change my setup!

Doesn't work at all.
I bought this item, despite a number of alarming reviews, to hook up to my Xbox One to act as an IR blaster to control my cable box. I plugged it into the 3.5mm jack on the Xbox, and tried to send commands...lo and behold, nothing happens. I verified no IR signals being sent by using my android phone's camera (you can see TV remotes sending IR signals as you push buttons) and proved it simply wasn't working. I even paid for two day shipping! I'm hoping I can get a full refund.
PROS: None at all.

PROS: No pros at all
CONS: I bought 2 units that were supposed to work with Cisco receiver, according to Monoprice listing, but it's not the case. Instead of losing my time, I decided to support the $ loss on my own. Not sure, however, that Monoprice will be my provider for electronics anymore.

Response from Monoprice
Hello Alain,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8059. A shame this didn't work out for your needs.. Now if I may ask, what model was this receiver? Did you get no response from this at all? Also, has this been the case since you received it? Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

Doesn't work with their IR Repeater
I wished Monoprice sold a sender that works with their other unit.
CONS: I bought for the second input in the IR Repeater. It doesn't work. It is not dual band.

Perfect for Cat5/6 extension
I used this product with my home theater to connect 3 TVs to 3 different cable boxes. I spliced and soldered the 3 IR wires to 3 Cat6 wires. I put the receiver end hooked to the TVs and the plug end to the cable boxes. Works like a Charm.
