How is the stability of this when only mounted to a wall and not in a rack? Is it easy to remove the front panel to access the punchdowns? Or must the entire thing be removed to do that?

BEST ANSWER: This is designed to be mounted on a wall or board and not made for racks. There is a bracket that is screwed into the wall and the patch panel snaps into it. To do the punch downs you can pop out the panel and snap it in to the bracket backwards to access the 110 block. Then just flip it back around when done.

The Panel comes in 2 parts: A white plastic base with screw-holes and the panel itself. It attaches to the base with four clips - so it is very easy to detach the panel from the base. Stability is OK.

The panel (Black) pops off the white plastic frame that is mounted to the wall and will snap back on. It's been very secure the half dozen times I've popped it off to punch down additional jacks.

It would be very tight and you would most likely have to remove it. I do it this way and it is only a small additional step.

Hey Michael,
The Cat 5e/6 mini, 24, and 48’s have the white clips that go on after terminating. But after my 3rd project with this particular brand, I don’t even bother with em’. They pop off at even the littlest jostle unless you have extra time and plenty of room to take a pair of channel locks or a hammer to them. I just term and zip tie - never had a problem. Hope that helps.

The actual RJ45 jack pins are gold plated and the 110-type pins behind where you punch your cables are copper/aluminum tin plated.

If I have this 12 port, 110 Type, vertical patch panel already punched down with cables, can I somehow move it into a 1U rack space? Do the block of 6 ports unclip and can they snap into some type of standard 19in rack faceplate? Trying not to remove all the terminated cables.

BEST ANSWER: No. You will have to cut/remove the wiring form the individual ports and then re-terminate them onto a desired rack mount patch panel. The ports and plate in this unit are all molded together. There is not way to remove the individual ports - or - 6-port clips. The wiring is pretty standard, it should be T568 A or B. Get some punch down tools - it's pretty easy.

Monoprice doesn't have any pictures of the back sides of their horizontal patch panels. It looks as though you could remove each bank of 6 ports and reinstall in a horizontal panel, BUT I have moved an IDF and attempted to do what your talking about and it ended with us re-terminating all the jacks. If your end game is to have a 19" horizontal patch panel I'd just go all in and skip installing the vertical.

I have not seen a 12 vertical patch panel that can be converted to fit into a rack mount panel. You can find a 1U 12 port rack mount patch panel or you can use a 24 port patch panel but you have to re-punch everything.

Absolutely! Very easy to punch down as well because you can flip the panel backwards so the backside is exposed and held strongly by the white brackets.

BEST ANSWER: I think you're talking about the wall-mount bracket (89B bracket). Yes, it does come with that bracket. It's listed in the product description as "Bracket frame with screw eyelets for easy attachment to rack frame". This patch panel is designed to mount on a backboard attached to a wall, not a 1U rackmount patch panel. Hope this helps!

Nice Patch Panel
In search of a compact, wall-mountable patch panel, I found this product to be an ideal solution. The quality of the panel is satisfactory, and it meets my requirements for the necessary speeds.

Decent for the price
If you use this with Cat6 cable, you will struggle to use all the ports due to the size of the cable. The frame it mounts to the wall with has insufficient space to accommodate even Cat 5e all in the same direction. It works, but I wouldn't buy it again until the mount is designed properly.

Great form factor, terrible strain relief
The form factor for is great for small vertically mounted enclosures, however the caps for strain relief are absolutely not compatible with the included and completely necessary mounting bracket. I would up just leaving the caps off, and hoping for the best.

Does not work well with thick CAT6 cables
There is just not enough room in the back also the plates that lock the wires in don't work very well. they hit on part of the mount and this makes it difficult to snap it back in. I have used punch down panels before and this was a dissappointment. Going to find something else eventually even though i do have it working.

Perfect for what we needed to do.
Allowed for the ability to organize the different components in a way that will survive current personnel and to easily identify what wires went where. Allowed for consolidation of different elements (i.e. computer, smart TV, telephones and security cameras) to all be run from one location.

Good Product; Relief Clips are Incompatible
It's a good quality patch panel, easy to mount and connect. Just one disappointment. In the box together with everything else, I received twelve relief clips ("dust caps") that should go over the connectors after the wires are punched down (see the product video). The clips could be attached all right and hold well. However, when I tried to insert the panel into the mounting bracket, I found that the clips interfere with some bracket features, and the panel could not be clicked in. I had to remove the clips (which was somewhat difficult, they hold really well), then the panel could be nicely installed.
It's a real boomer. All parts come from a respectful firm, packaged in a single box, and are completely incompatible.
